The status of the shooting sports today is at an all time high. I’m eighty, won’t bore anyone with stories. Great stuff. I have always felt like the easiest way to prove out what Erik is telling everyone in this video is to take your favorite Rimfire out and push your limits with it. The further you push it the harder it gets fast and many times I have struggled to hit what should be reasonable targets at 300 yards with Rimfire and still connect no problem at 800+ yards with 308 class case cartridges in the same conditions during the same shooting sessions.

Like you, I work on my fundamentals with my CZ457MTR. The range is only out to 200 yards. But I shoot there often and just went out to a range where I could shoot out to 1000 yards with my 6.5 creedmoor. Took about a dozen rounds because of a 10mph wind but I finally hit it. Once I figured out the wind I hit it 6 times in a row. Having a blast!!!

Yeah you know. Even going from 100 yd and being consistent 100 yd even going to 500 yd is an extreme 95% of the people out there that are shooting. I just redid my 7mm 08 Thompson center venture. I know just a cheap gun but all I do is hunt with it and I want to be able to shoot three and 4 yd and I want to be able to take headshots instead of body shots so I did some upgrades with it. I'm getting 1/2-inch groups at 100 yd but I'm still tuning that gun and that barrel and the scope and the loads because I enjoy it.

I shoot for fun and on a budget. My rifle and scope is on zero sub moa at one hundred meters but at five hundred meters my shot goes 4inches right on windage. It's a $570 ffp scope in Canadian dollars. It's cheap and as long as I know the nature of how it reacts at longer distances im able to hit the target where I want. I just slowly increased the distance I shoot, write down my data at each distance and im able to go back later to those distances and dial my scope to the information I recorded and I'm able to hit my target.

There were times when I was competing in service rifle highpower that some other competitors would leave the range if the weather turned bad. The shooting sports are not a fair weather game. Those were days when I felt I had the advantage. The wind is your friend.

Over the years I've used bad weather as an opportunity to cement my skills to my hardware. Learning a gun does X or Y in a weather extreme (below 40 or above 95 degrees) is important. My sweat never blew out a group, but being underdressed and jittery from the cold sure did. Shooting under .75" when the weather is 80ish and little wind is rewarding but not thrilling. Let me tell you, shooting for LR qualification during Tropical Storm Charlye in 1998 at the American Shooting Center-Houston was a thrill!!! Sub-5" group on the bullseye at 300yds......during the TS. I could see two or three different weather conditions over that distance as to wind/calm and rain combinations. That was fun!!

100%...only way to learn the wind is to shoot in it...if your the guy that only goes to the range when its calm good luck! Buy the best equipment you can afford but honestly if you want to compete dont buy anything until you can afford the best...your wallet will thank you in the long run!!!

I went from hunting with a 7mm from random distances to shooting my 338 lapua at 1000 yards i was 4 inches from the bullseye but stacked my impacts ¼from eachother first time out felt great about it

Hi, i need help from both of you please. I really want to get into this sport but i don't see how i could do it with a hand down rifle as Erik said. Please tell me how it's possible. Every video i watch of competitions, it looks like everyone has custom rifles. I have two rifles. An 8mm and a 270. I don't think either one is adequate for competition. I may be able to purchase a rifle, but would be limited to around $1000. Maybe. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Search other videos about inexpensive rifles that can be used for hunting/competition shooting. A recent vortex nation video comes to mind and how a relatively inexpensive ruger american 2, or Savage 110 can get you started. Also, unless you are comfortable with recoil, pick a cartridge that has the ability to be used competition and hunting. Best of luck to you!

If you're gearing up for long range: 100 yards might be useful just to orient your scope. Shoot at 200 yards first then work out grom there. Don't waste time at 100 yards - thats a whole different ball game.

There’s lots of 0.5 MOA rifles for less than $1000 savage, Bergara, Ruger precision rifle to name just a few. For cheap scopes that will work well past 1000yds (or even a mile)SWFA ss, primary arms, athon, Arken. To Shoot, long range you need good enough equipment and excellent BASIC marksmanship skills and a good understanding of ballistics, and most importantly how to read the wind. If you have these things you will excel and do much better than people who spend way way too much money on equipment and who don’t have the dedication or the willpower to learn how to operate a rifle,Read the wind, load good enough ammo, and suck at shooting. Of everything that’s needed to be good at shooting long range,equipment is by far the least important especially considering how good scopes have gotten, and how good factory rifles have become. You don’t need a $6000 custom rifle $5000 scope cases that cost $1.50 each bullets cost $1.00each. In most things competition, to get the last little 10% out of a motor ,a rifle, a car, bike, baseball glove, tennis racket, etc. it cost a 1000 times more Than the first 10% extra cost. Bottom line spin just enough to get good enough equipment and spend the rest of your time money and energy getting energy at good and good with it and learning ballistics. Oh and wind

Can Factory ammo no matter the brand get to 1,000 yards or 1,200 yards, with a good rifle say a sako or tikka in .223 or .243 or 308 with off the shelf ammo, especially if the weapon is tunned and blue printed with all factory action and barrels, just asking thats all, do not want to go down F class products as it can be expensive thats all, the stock is easy do buy second hand ,but its the barrel and action like barnard barrel in 308 or any other caliber its expensive in AU at least. 🦘🦘✌✌👌👌
