Love being able to see exactly what you see. This perspective is definitely best for precise and concise educating. To the point. Easy peasy. Love it.

Joel consider this theory - In my opinion the atmosphere is like a giant invisible ocean. Waves in the ocean come in sets, 3's 7's 9's, with 9 being the end of a set. The size builds through the set. The end of the set usually has the biggest wave where all hell breaks loose. This is often followed by a relative calm. Well if this theory be true about the atmosphere, a relative channel of calm can often be found at the end of a set. This channel of calm allows all sorts of opportunity, sometimes even almost windless conditions. If time is no factor, one can wait for the calm after the 9th wave ( biggest gust) before sending it. If you're lucky enough, you can shoot inside this channel of opportunity each time, thereby minimizing the variability. One can test this theory by watching the flags on a range as the wave of wind moves towards or away from you. Similarly in the field, the grass and trees will tell this story. It's called the Oberem Technique ( Joke). Test it out and feel free to comment. Obviously the shape of the land factors in as the air gets compressed around obstacles hills etc. The inverted invisible ocean with it's wave like winds persists and is a valuable tool. In a match if you are able to stall, move to the line to start towards the end of the 7th set, this way you should have calmer wind during 1, 2, 3 etc. Hope this makes sense and no I don't smoke.... ( Surfers will probably be able to easily recognize this pattern...)

Thanks for taking the time to write all that. I agree there seems to be an “ebb and flow” sometimes. It’s definitely advantageous to wait for the wind to die down. 👍

Thanks for the video. Ive been out of the precision rifle scene for a few years and am getting back in and wanting to try PRS style matches. These types of videos are great refreshers and reminders. Keep up the good work.

The last line, "Occasional whipping motion" is that vegetation or referencing tree limbs? Your bracketing technique works well as I tried it out today. I have always been a proponent of mirage when calling wind for a shooter. Your chart is nice for bracketing for a quick shot. Thanks for sharing Joel.

kylefreemason Thanks man. Whipping motion is generally referring to both trees and veg, but I understand they move differently. I guess that’s where practice comes in. 😉

You show some more images of that sexy Leupold Mark 5 and I'll subscribe. Good video, good information for those learning to play in the wind.

lol, it's the only optic I'll be running on that rifle. You will see plenty more of it. Thanks!

@@PrecisionRifleNetwork how does it compare with your Razor Gen 2?
@PrecisionRifleNetwork6 жыл бұрын
MegaGouch very similar. I think the glass is a bit clearer edge to edge on the mark5. Mark 5 image just seems to be in HD. Looks bright and clear. The vortex is awesome too! Only complaint is the image looks kinda of gray through the gen2. Honestly I think everything else is equal. Guess the mark 5 is a bit cheaper.

Looked to me like you hit the 400yd target on the right side
@PrecisionRifleNetwork6 жыл бұрын
I guess it's possible. I thought at the time that it hit left side. I could have been wrong. The "dust" off of the target after I impacted went slightly left though, which would support my thought that the wind died down and I hit left side. Meh, either way a hit is a hit. lol
@PrecisionRifleNetwork6 жыл бұрын
Actually after re-watching it. The shot impacted in the center. So that could have been wind or it just could have been the size of my group at that distance.
