In this seminar, Dr. Weimbs discusses his laboratory’s recent research that led to a new strategy of managing PKD with a conservative approach aimed at minimizing factors that can worsen the progression of PKD. This research not only led to the development of KetoCitra but also a dietary program for PKD called Ren-Nu. Dr. Weimbs discusses past, ongoing and planned clinical trials to investigate the feasibility, tolerability and effects of ketogenic metabolic therapy in PKD.

Thomas Weimbs, PhD, is a professor at the University of California in Santa Barbara (UCSB) where he directs a research laboratory focused on polycystic kidney disease (PKD). Dr. Weimbs is also the president of Santa Barbara Nutrients, Inc (SBN), a benefit corporation out of UCSB that was founded by PKD researchers and people affected by PKD. SBN is devoted to creating research-backed products for PKD, chronic kidney disease, and general kidney health. SBN recently launched KetoCitra in the US, the first non-prescription medical food for the dietary management of individuals with PKD. KetoCitra was also recently approved as a natural health product in Canada.
