IMO, the only Predator series entry to rival the first one is PREY, the 2022 prequel. It is as good as this one; some fans consider it better than the first. The only other good movies in the franchise are PREDATOR 2 and PREDATORS, though neither one measures up to the original. Even those two movies, fun as they are, fail to really get what makes the first one work. Without spoilers, they keep introducing level ups and bloated lore in an attempt to raise stakes above what the first one did, and lose focus on the basic formula at the heart of the story. PREY was a refreshing and surprising return to basics for the franchise. I hope future installments remember what makes PREDATOR and PREY work. None of the sequels have Arnold in them, btw.

A lot of people, including myself, always thought, bullshit, that mud wouldn't work like that. There's a youtube channel where they tested it out. One guy covered himself with thick mud, and the other guys used thermal goggles and they were all pretty surprised that it worked pretty damn good. The channel is Corridor Crew, the video is Can Mud ACTUALLY hide you from Predator???. It came out about 3 months ago.
@michaelkonig530
@michaelkonig530 7 ай бұрын
Corridor Crew not to long ago tested mud against the best infrared vision available today, and it works surprisingly well. This was the first movie to feature a hand-held minigun. What you don‘t see is the car batteries it needs to operate. Also they had to use a quarter of the original rotation speed. With real ammo instead of blanks it wouldn‘t be controllable hand-held at all. In initial tests Jean Claude Van Damme played the Predator, when the suit still looked quite a bit different. He dropped out, because the part wasn‘t big enough. Kevin Peter Hall took over, who has a much more imposing stature. He can be seen in the end as the pilot of the chopper. The guy with the bad jokes is played by Shane Black, who wrote Lethal Weapon. Producer Joel Silver wanted to have him on set as an on-hand script doctor. Black later became a director, e.g. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Nice Guys, Iron Man 3, and one of the Predator sequels. This is one of two movies with the same two future governors in the cast. Arnold Schwarzenegger for California and Jesse Ventura for Minnesota. The other movie is The Running Man.

Probably already mentioned, but the Predator monster in this movie proved to be pretty difficult to design. At an early stage Jean Claude van Damme (yes - him!) was hired to run around in a goofy orange foam suit for the camouflage scenes, (and a pretty poor creature suit). It just didn't work. Legend has it that Stan Winston later happened to be seated next to James Cameron on a flight, and asked him for advice. Cameron sketched the "crab/lobster face with dreadlocks" design for Winston, which then became the iconic design for the "ugly motherf*cker". Bonus trivia: the Predator was played by Kevin Peter Hall, who John McTiernan gave the role of the helicopter pilot in the end, so that he could appear in the film without suit/make-up.

Mythbusters tested if mud can hide you from heat sensors and what they found out is that yes it can hide you but only for a few seconds. Your body temperature will quickly increase the temperature of the mud and you will be detected. Dutch using mud for as long as he did is movie magic, however, the initial time when he came out from the water covered in mud might have worked because the Predator was there within seconds and quickly ran off. But, that was the only moment that it COULD have worked.

A good order to watch Predator movies: 1. This one. 2. Predator 2 (1990) - a fairly "mid" movie but it's a good setup for Prey which is a better movie. 3. Prey 4 Make sure you have seen as many Alien movies as you want to watch but at least the first 2 are recommended. 5. Alien vs. Predator - mediocre but has some cool stuff. 6. Alien vs. Predator 2 - ditto 7. Any other predator movies in release order. None of them are very good but if you got this far, might as well stay on for the whole ride.

Not trying to be contentious, just saying that Predator didn't "just" not kill the female because he viewed her as weaker (a bridge "maybe" too far, but she has to watch Predator 2 before I can adequately explain why), it was that she was a woman. @@Ilurk247 Don't you think the audience could intuit an extraterrestrial origin from its advanced technology? When you see something hunting with futuristic energy weapons and bending light around itself, which turns off at the press of a button, I'd think "evolved unnoticed in the jungle" was off the table. If that's not enough, give Ana a line about how people see and hear UFOs in the same years as the killings. Or have the soldiers say, "Nothing on Earth has weapons like that." The spaceship is a spoiler that keeps the audience from identifying with the mystery the characters experience.

'I think it would have been better if we hadn't seen the spaceship at the beginning.' While on one level I do agree with you, I also know the spaceship was shown in order to inform the audience there would be a sci-fi element. Imagine you go to see this action movie, knowing nothing about it, and half way through the Predator is firing lazer blasts and turning invisible. If you're going to do something like that then you have to set it up, else risk your audience scoffing and saying, 'As if.' For the record that is the same reason they showed the spaceship at the start of The Thing.

A lot of, maybe most, KZbin reactors think the blood in Predator somehow relates to the decision making process of the the Predator, and it leaves Anna alive because she has blood on her pants. This is not the case. She discovers the blood but the others can’t know about it yet so rather than having green on her hands she removes it with a quick wipe. If the others see it on her pants it doesn’t imply she purposely touched the stuff or that she is even aware she has green stuff on her. The Predator doesn’t attack her, because she’s not much of a sporting kill if she’s unarmed. He has a moral hunter’s ethic, which is completely established in ‘Predator 2’ which is to me, a great watch but also, very over the top, John Woo-ish kind of 80s violence. It’s ridiculous but pretty sweet. I think you’d like it judging by your reaction to this first one. The number one thing people don’t get in the first Predator film is that when Dutch gets shot at by the Predator, he actually gets hit in the gun. That’s why he survives that shot. He got lucky. Thanks for making videos eh.

While "Prey" (2022) is a prequel, you need to watch "Predator 2" prior, i.e., pay attention to the pistol at the end. I suggest that you also watch "AVP" (Alien vs. Predator - 2004) & "Predators" (2010) as both movies increases your knowledge of predators, i.e., there are more than one race of predators. Remember that the Predator movies span a period from 1719 to today & everything evolves including the predator race & their weapons.

AVP was first an excellent comic book series (which I own) that stayed completely within the canon of the two series and made sense. When someone finally decided to make a film using the idea, they took a giant shit on a paper plate, sprinkled some glitter on it, wrapped it up in tinfoil and decided to film THAT instead....... What you said about the music is what John Carpenter calls "Mickey Mouse score". With a great composer, the only drawback I see using this technique would be excessive synchronization, than can lead to an out of place comedic effect. Personally I find this type of music more enjoyable and memorable than what they do in current films. Even Alan Silvestri's own work got more boring.

The second one, not so much.....unless you watched Game Of Thrones and didnt mind the battle of Winterfell episode that is lit only by an occasional dragon, and the arrival of Melisandre. ....AVP 2 is filmed in the dark, with no lights, the lens cover on, and a black velvet curtain between the camera and the subject at all times. It might make sense, if you could actually see anything. Your mileage may vary. Theres also the rest of the Predator franchise, some of its great, some of it isn't, but, y'know, once you start a franchise.........

Different kind of Arnold Movie... Kindergarten Cop. Just saying. From my interpretation of you, you'll groan a bit, and you'll love the movie as a whole. 3:40-3:46 "Are they supposed to be sneaky, because I feel like the helicopters just gave away their position" A helicopter is less obvious than a jet, and more maneuverable than propeller driven aircraft, but even still, the deployment by helicopter is likely more than 8 miles from where the team expects to need to be. Helicopters can be unnoticed at half a mile, and the odds of someone seeing the helicopter in the dark is low, without a visual confirmation, "yeah, I think there was a helicopter about 3 hours ago kind of southwest of my farm" 9:02-9:03 "Get to the choppa" You're a little early with that one. That line comes later. 23:44-23:46 Was he smoking? I would hypothesize that it is the dirt from him sliding down a natural slope, now he's dropping rapidly through open air, some of that dirt is going to blow off of him. Being that he is far heavier and has less drag, I would expect the dirt to drop much slower than Dutch. It obviously wasn't the only one. Why would it be "dropped off" at Earth to go hunting, if it was the only one. There is a lot of lore surrounding the Predator, of which I know only some. But they are a species, a race, capable of travel across space. For that matter why would there be only one of a creature in all of reality, which would have achieved the ability to even travel from say the moon to Earth in its lifetime?

About the Spaceship in the beginning..See, I would agree with this perspective if it were not so reliant on the fact " we " are watching this almost 40 years after release. With that, comes a certain amount of fantastical expectation, so to speak, due to the cultural resonance that these early Sci Fi concepts established. Try to remember that when this movie was fresh to the screen, the entire idea that a 7 foot humanoid Warrior species using a " camo " of ambient light distortion, complete with an atomically charged pulse cannon, yet still nimble to traverse the diciest of this earths rainforest canopies WHILE skinning their corpses and taking spit-shined skulls as " trophies " WAS NOT crossing the mind of anyone, anywhere! It is rare you can say it's never been done before; this was exactly that!!!

Great reaction! I love your reactions! Please react to Prey, it's a predator prequel! It's not necessary to watch predator 2, but Prey does tie in to the end of predator 2. Remember Billy , the Indian tracker when u watch Prey!

Arnold is only in one Predator Movie however there are three good to great movies This One Predator 2 which is hugely underrated and Prey which is a fantastic movie . You need to watch them in that order and 2 has a ton of Easter Eggs in it. Please watch them you will love them. There are two Future Governors in this Movie Arnold for California and Jessie Ventura For Minnesota. This one was something special

Finally someone who agrees with me that showing the spaceship at the beginning was a mistake! It would have been much better not to have any indication what they were up against until the big reveal.

No , just the fact that the main ship doesn't land, but sends off a smaller ship shows us that what ever it is ,isn't all of it. There's mystery, is it one alien?, two ...ten , where did it land? I think without any hint of sci-fi we would be sat there watching any generic American Vietnam movies rescuing hostages and some bloody alien thing shows up for some reason?is it working for the Russians!?😂 no we already know something got dropt off and started slaying everybody for shitsngigs.

Fun fact: mud actually _does_ shield you from infrared vision (a KZbin channel called Corridor Crew recreated the gist of the scene fairly recently expecting to debunk it and to everyone's surprise, it worked). Thing about infrared is, it's just light, not magic so can be blocked fairly easily. Even window glass does it to some extent so in theory you could also hide from a Predator in a greenhouse :). And yep, fairly meme heavy this one. Good, solid 80s cheese IMO - I doubt anyone's going to accuse it of being a masterpiece but it's plenty of fun (and I completely agree about the spaceship BTW).

31:25 This film has no CGI. The effects you see with the laser shots... camouflage transparency....heat vision.... nuke charging at the end.... etc..... are what is known as "optical effects" or animation frames and or other tricks layered over and composited with live action footage.

Agreed about not seeing the spaceship at the beginning it keeps the mystery, same goes for the spaceship at the beginning of "The Thing". Would've been great not to have any inkling> The predators vision wasn't necessarily heat, it was a frequency, infra red was assumed, so most nit picks about the mud was a bit muddied so to speak🙃

None of the advertisement for the film kept the alien bit secret. They were doing the opposite, selling the film under the guise that if nothing on this earth could defeat Arnold, here's something not of this earth for him to fight.
