That widow maker reminded me of virtually the same scenario I had with a Douglas Fir. I tried to cut down a tree a bit bigger and taller. It got hung up in the other trees and spun off the stump. I had to pull it with my truck in reverse, hooked to the front of my truck. I think that's the last tree I have fallen. It spooked me.

Hi Steve! Trees that do that are spooky for sure. I was confident, but uncertain at the same time. Does that make sense? WST, like you I enjoy black lines and they do matter when laying out builds such as this. What we will disagree on is the isolators and raised mount. What I feel will happen is by having all that material (engine block, isolators, sq.tubing, floor plate) all sandwiched with long bolts and the limiting fastener torque due to isolator compression is gonna cause loosing/vibrating issues. I have a feeling it might loosen up and fall apart faster than the chaz/chop mlb autonomy zone of June 2020. I would recommend weld bolts inside one side of sq tube for rigid fasten to floor plate. Then weld bolts upward for engine and isolators. This will help entire engine mount to remain tight.
@WSTMike
@WSTMike 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Garny, I understand what you are saying. I looked at doing that, but the size of the tube was not enough to get the correct length of bolt for either side. I do have another idea that will yield the same result. The plan is to weld the lift kit to the platform. Have a big enough hole from the bottom yo feed the bolt length needed for the top section. Hopefully that made sense. I don’t want that whatever you mentioned happening in June 2020 to me…. Thanks for the help. WST

As soon as you planted the widowmaker and then reattached a couple feet up from the bottom I thought oh no someone is going to do some ploughing rather than dragging. I've ploughed with enough trees/branches that I now try to drag from as close to the butt end as possible. Are you putting another urethane disc underneath the mount? With a rigid bolt between the top of the engine mount to the bottom of the frame there is still a direct path for vibrations to get through.
