Runs the entire home without a hiccup. Bought a set of ramps $90 ( also at Harbor Freight ) -for loading it into the truck when needed for the travel trailer. Yes, it weighs quite a bit -so have help for loading if possible. Extremely happy with this generator.

common usage of the term "inverter generator" vs "generator" today is odd to me. Both produce AC. However, the "inverter generator" produces a pure sine wave AC, whereas the "generator" version produces a hybrid or approximation of a sine wave. Your household current is pure sine wave, It goes alternatively at 60 times per second (which is US standard). and it does it smoothly. The hybrid current jumps up and down, not smoothly, but only approximates the sine wave AC. That's why the inverter is better for sensitive electronics, especially medical devices. But the hybrid generator is ok for motors and tools, but I wouldn't use a hybrid (regular generator) if I was peering my CPAP device.

Mine’s conventional, so louder, but I only run it when an emergency power out condition. It’s saved me some expensive hotel bills on several occasions. I also converted the generator to run on Propane or Nat gas, with a kit I found on line. I’ve never actually run on either of these fuels because of their lower energy content. NOTE: Should you not have a main disconnect breaker in your power panel, I do not recommend this approach at all! I also have a gas dryer, thus a 30a electrical receptacle, for which the breaker is always locked off. I ran a large cable into my laundry room, and put a matching 30a plug on it. I keep it out of sight, but when needed I can pull it through the hole in the garage wall to the receptacle by the dryer and plug it in. When the power goes off (rarely), I take the battery out of the lawn mower, install it on the generator, and roll it outside. Fuel and Start the generator to verify it’s operational. Then shut it off. Procedure to power up: 1. Assure the main incoming breaker at the power panel is off. (You would never do this if commercial,power is available anyway!) 2. Assure the 30a Power Panel breaker for the dryer Receptacle (inside) is off. 3. Plug in the cable at the dryer receptacle. 4. Double check that the power panel dryer breaker is off. 5. Plug in the Cable at the generator end. 6. Start the generator. LAST: Turn on the Dryer breaker. This feeds 30a of power into both sides of the power panel, which feeds the entire house. NEVER TURN THE INCOMING MAIN POWER BREAKER BACK ON until the generator is completely disconnected! I never know when utility power is restored without calling a neighbor. At that point, I kill the generator and connected feeds at both ends. Turn on the Main disconnect breaker LAST. Now if this sounds like a lot of effort, it is! And it’s for emergency use only!! Setup takes an hour or more depending on outside temperature. Breakdown takes about an hour. I don’t ever do it unless I expect the power to be off for some time, and it only works in the wintertime. If you are uncomfortable with any part of this procedure, have a commercial Back-up Unit professionally installed by a licensed contractor.

I live in an area where we can lose power for floods, fires, earthquakes and locusts. Okay, no locusts but certainly for all of the rest. We may get lucky and go a year or two or three with no power loss but after that long, the gas will have gone bad. I was so hoping you would say that there was a natural gas conversion for this machine. Alas, there doesn't seem to be. I'm sure some people won't think of this when they purchase an emergency generator. When they lose power, they will fire it up and in a few minutes their carburetor will gunk up and they will again be without power. To me it is the most important feature I need to meet an emergency. @1D10CRACY3 жыл бұрын
I use to be a firm believer in the very same concept that you get what you pay for, but today things have changed a bit. I'd like to think for the most part it is true, but there are very good examples where it simply isn't. A good example is the Harbor Freight Daytona Jacks VS SnapOn's. The 3 tons were identical except for paint color and SnapOn tried to sue Harbor Freight. It was quickly dropped when SnapOn found out HF Jacks were being made in the same factory as theirs, in China. The issue wasn't the copy, it was the simple fact SnapOn was charging $650 dollars for a red version made in China with a falsely stamped "Made in USA" on the box. HF's was yellow, at the time they were charging $200 but were stamping "Made in China" on their boxes. The whole point of the story is I am sure there were people who paid the extra $450 because of two main reasons, you get what you pay for and SnapOn is assumed a better brand. :D I really have no idea if these generators are going to be good in the long term though! I know Honda's are tried and true and with a few exceptions are pretty dang reliable. The Predator 9500 has not been out long enough to deserve a badge of honor yet, but the Predator 3500 has been out a while now and seems to have a pretty solid following! Most food trucks are either using the predator 3500 or a Honda EU4000. I suspect they are using them because they are reliable and quiet. So I guess at this point, time will tell and we really have nothing else to go by. :D

The 3500 is rated 25 amps at 120 volts. The 9500 is rated at 31 amps at 240 volts. Technically 31 amps, per leg of the 240 circuit, so each 120 volt circuit can handle 31 amps. This generator wasn't designed with the 50 amp RV requirements in mind. That being said, most RVs or Campers do not require the full 50 amps, they just have a 50 amp cord. Are inverter generators more at risk for an EMP over a gas generator?
@1D10CRACY3 жыл бұрын
If I were to take a guess, I would say yes. Probably the best type of generator that "may" survive an EMP would be one of the older 4 pole generators from the late 60s / early 70s. The Onan and Kohler Generators that you could find in RVs were quiet, reliable and the engine ran on points.

Anybody know how long the cable can be to plug into your home? Reason is that I have a spot behind my garage but it's about 45' to my electrical box in my house. I also assume my new transfer box would need to be reasonably close to my existing for ease of wiring. Generator------45'------new xfer box----existing circuit box. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
@Ringele55743 жыл бұрын
Typically, the longer the run the bigger the wire needs to be. Look online, there are calculators that will figure that out for you if you know the max amps, volts, and/or watts. The transfer switch needs to be next to your breaker box.

True but it wouldn't have clean inverter generator power, have the same fuel efficiency, and require LP tank installation. Not really a couple thousand when all taken into account but I definitely get the gist of watt output. BTW, I love my Predator 9500 and it can run my entire house including my 4 ton AC.

No wonder why there is a big price difference between the Harbor Freight & the Honda EU7000is? My Honda of the same model is not only an inverter generator but fuel injected. Fuel injection makes it more fuel efficient. Plus there is no carburetor to freeze up in the winter. No stale fuel issues & a host of other issues if you burn ethanol enriched fuel in your carburetor generator. For my purposes I need fuel injection because I have mine inside an enclosure outside my house. My wife can start the generator remotely with a hard wired cord & button next to our CB panel. She never has to go outside to start it. She can make all the necessary switch moves inside my basement to turn off street power & with the same switch (interlock) turn on generator power. Of course I have her start the generator & watch for the green pilot light to come on with the remote start. The other advantage of having a proven reliable fuel injected generator is the fact that there are a few after market manufactures that make fuel supply accessories. I have one to extend my run time up to 28 hours. My generator is fuel injected so my auxiliary fuel tank sits on the ground & will draw automatically from my auxiliary fuel tank. The advantage of that is that the auxiliary runs out of fuel first before my main tank. I refill my generator at the auxiliary while my generator is operating. Something that is considered very dangerous & definitely not recommended if your refueling your generator at the generator itself. I also have a battery tender continuously charging my battery on my generator as well.
@1D10CRACY3 жыл бұрын
Very good read and some very good thoughts! One advantage of having a proven reliable carburetor is the ease of adding a propane or natural gas conversion kit. But your are absolutely correct, fuel injection is an improvement, at the cost of money of course. The Honda 7k retails (not on sale or discount) for more than double the cost, it also is only capable of 5,500 continuous watts. So less the output, but a bit more quiet and probably more efficient.
@johnclyne63503 жыл бұрын
Actually, I have read on blogs about conversion kits sold by after marker manufacturers that converted the EU 7000is to both propane/natural gas. Wether that is true I haven’t a clue? Yes, the Honda is more than twice the price however if safety of your family is paramount? I would rather trust a tested & proven generator refined over the years. Than a new product with an unproven track record? Perhaps in a few years? Yes! By the way….just for the record. I have pushed my Honda generator beyond the rated continuous watts of 5500. I once saw the watt meter read 9200 watts. After I increased the load it tripped the breaker. There are KZbin video’s that attest to the same findings. I wonder if the Predator is capable of the same results? We shall see in future reviews if that is the case?
@eosjoe5653 жыл бұрын
I have the previous Honda model which is a EU6500is. Fuel injection is definitely an advantage but there is nothing wrong with a carburetor when properly maintained. Since it's a Honda both versions will be very expensive to repair. I'm going on 8-years with the EU6500 and have about 200 hrs on it. I use it as a whole-house generator. It has performed reliably in 0-degree F winters and 100-degree F summers. I only use non-Ethanol fuel in the generator.
@johnclyne63503 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear you’ve had your generator for 8 years now! Wow! Only 200 hours in all that time? I’m guessing it’s still standing ready to provide power in a pinch? Mine is used as a whole house generator as well. My issue with a carburetor model is that they need to be primed/choke. Then started & take the choke off. In my application that won’t work for me. When the lights go out for me? I’m already at work. Restoring power to residences & businesses in another district. My wife is the one that uses it in my absence. Ours is in a locked enclosure outside the house. Only a fuel injected model will work for us. She starts it at our Circuit Breaker Panel remotely. She knows how to swap over from street power to generator all right there. My electrician fabricated exactly what I wanted. Two switches later & my whole house including my door bell work off the generator. My wife is still learning the ropes on turning on the central air conditioner as well in the summer time. The safety of my family is paramount! I can’t tell you how great it feels to come home after working a 24 shift that first day on storm mode to be able to take a warm shower & sleep in A/C before my next shift.
@eosjoe5653 жыл бұрын
@@johnclyne6350 The carbureted EU6500is works identical to the fuel injected EU7000is when starting. It has a computer controlled choke and throttle. In fact, it uses pretty much the same wired remote controlled starter as does the EU7000is. The only real difference is the EU6500is has a fuel shutoff knob on the front panel which you don't HAVE to use but of course is good practice if you can. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of carburetors but 98% of the problems with them are causes by poor maintenance. I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing more and more fuel injected generators as small engines transition away from carburetors. I hope by the time I need to replace my unit that Honda will perhaps have a EU8000 or similar. I could use just about another KW of power.

So maybe I could ask for your help here ... when we built, we had planned on getting a Generac whole-house generator but they are just prohibitively expensive. And Generac requires you use their people and all their bells & whistles which are a few thousand each etc. it's just not happening - but what is very important to me ... This does "240" right? Because my well-pump is on 240 , and to me, there is no point in getting (another, we have a small regular one) generator that doesn't run the well-pump ... Water is the second most-essential item in the sustainment of human life, other than oxygen, and that doesn't even take into account sanitation, hygiene , cooking, cleaning, etc. So while this generator looks great, just wanted to make sure it would run that 240 Well Pump? Thanks brother!
