Predator on the Homestead. OFF GRID Log Cabin Living, Trout Fishing, & Spring Gardening. April 2024

Spring has brought a new predator to the homestead that we must take care of. We also head to the Brule River for the spring trout run and catch a nice rainbow trout. Fish are just starting to move up into the river from Lake Superior to do their spawning. Water is quite a bit lower this year than normal and makes it tougher to fish. It is always nice to get out and enjoy the woods and river. Finally, the time has come to start our tomato seeds - the best part of gardening is the tomatoes! We head to town to get some gardening supplies and to refill our propane. It's been over 7 years since we've seen a weasel in our yard and had to take care of that situation before we get too many. Weasel's are known to get into chicken coops at night when the chickens can't see to defend themselves. Our new puppy, Ole, is a handful and now likes to go down to the chicken coop and eat chicken food. He's keeping us very busy. Thank you so much for watching! I didn't realize you live in northern Wisconsin. My family had a dry cabin 50 miles below Superior. Great fishing back then, we had the lake to ourselves. Hard to believe it's time to think about vegetable gardening. Big boy tomatoes are a good tomato, they produce a large quantity. Canning your own vegetables is so gratifying. And they taste yummy. 💖

Nice to hear about your northern Wisconsin cabin - the lake to yourselves, that's always so awesome. Sometimes we'll be the only ones on the lake, depending which lake and how busy the time of year. It is so nice and calming when it's like that. Nice to hear Big Boy tomatoes are a good tomato and they produce a large quantity. That's good news. I'm excited to grow a new variety! Hey that’s my fishin spot! 😂 no wonder I can’t catch anything. I think I’ll give the Brule a try next week after this rain. I also have a little Brook Trout stream on our property I need to try soon. I’ve seen those little weasels around here chasing rabbits, they are pretty vicious! Great bday present for Liam I’m sure he’ll love it.

Lol! I bet it's a lot of people's fishing spot! Good luck next week, hopefully the rain will get here, seems to be taking its time. Hopefully the river will rise some, it's quite low right now. How lucky you are to have a Brook Trout stream on your property - must be a nice cold spring around you. That weasel decision wasn't an easy one because they're cute animals... Liam is pretty great at his aim so that's very nice to have! Hopefully we won't have any more weasels around. The boat should work out really good for him, he's going to love it, fishing is one of his favorites. Enjoy the warmer days ahead! Have a great night!
