Compared to the Big 10, SEC, Big 12, and ACC, Clemson was the worst team playing in the conference championship. To make it worse, Clemson shouldn't even have played in that game. It should have been Miami vs SMU, but Miami couldn't beat Syracuse. Also, don't forget Clemson lost by 30 to Georgia and lost to South Carolina so it's not like Clemson is as good as they were under Watson or Lawerence.

I just think that a Power 4 Conference team needs to play a tough schedule to get into the CFP. SMU lost to BYU and Clemson. Clemson got blown out by Georgia and lost to South Carolina. They just don't have the resume. Why does 3 loss Clemson get to play in their conference title game? Alabama didn't get to play in the final because they play in a tougher conference.

There is a reason why there were more SEC teams in the top 25 than any other conference. They recruit at a much higher level than other conferences. For several seasons, the SEC could boast the best teams in the country with more of the best players than other conferences. I would be dumb to try and say otherwise. The problem is, every season is a clean slate and history has no bearing on it. Georgia just won the conference, but I doubt if even a blind SEC homer would try and claim that this Georgia squad is equal to the ones who took the field in '21 and '22. Before the portal and NIL, there was at least a little continuity to prior seasons, though things still changed every year, but now that continuity is tenuous at best. You may choose to believe that the SEC is as dominant as it once was, but any objective view would show that to be false. Next year, maybe the SEC will be strong again, but that's not true this year. Oh, and actually numbers frequently DO lie, or least can be used to prop up false premises.

The playoff berths were not designated for the best 12 teams or it would simply be the first 12 teams in the rankings regardless of conference. As to your claim about how good Alabama is, you can't brag about beating Georgia and dismiss losing to Oklahoma and Vandy, both of which happened after the Georgia game. It's not that Vandy is a good team, they're not, it's that the top teams in the SEC this year aren't the powerhouses that they have been in previous seasons. The SEC finally has the parity that it always (and falsely) claimed to have, but that doesn't mean the weaker teams are now powerhouses too, but that the worst teams aren't as bad and the best teams aren't as good. I wouldn't claim that there's parity in the B1G, for example, because there's still a very clear pecking order, but there really isn't a clear pecking order in the SEC. It's more like the Big 12 in that regard, which is why the SEC championship race was still in doubt until almost the end of the season.

What part of ASU schedule was the quality wins? One ranked opponent regular season (BYU) . UNLV played 2 (Syracuse and BSU) and BSU played 2 (Oregon unlv and WSU was top 20 when they played too) also- as much as I love Skattebo, Jeanty is insane and BSU defense has been scary too. Plus it’s 20 degrees in Boise.

Bama should be in! If strength of schedule isn’t considered, then starting next year, Bama might as well follow Notre Dame's approach as an independent team. Here's the problem SMU will have. It's not that they will leave SMU out for losing their title game...the problem is the opponent they had tonight. The committee wouldn't have put Clemson in, in the first place had the ACC champ not had an auto-bid. Clemson was ranked 17...6 spots below bama. Now Clemson was ranked below bama, so essentially theyre going to swap Clemson for SMU and not punish bama for being ranked above Clemson. And argue about bama's losses all you want, but they lost to all bowl eligible teams with winning records. And 3 wins over ranked teams...so no, beating GA for 1 half is not their entire resume.

This makes no sense. IT'S THE COMMITTEE THAT PISSES PEOPLE OFF.. NOT SO MUCH THE TEAMS. Whenever a team dropped out of the top twenty-five rankings and made the playoffs, regardless of Clemson winning the championship, that's cheating. Clemson was condidered out the playoffs picture. No one was even talking about them. Because this year, they were not even a top 10 rank team or a top 5 ranked team. They were ranked around 17-25 until they fell out the rankings. Then they climbed back in because of losses from other teams. I forgot... they lost their last game to South Carolina at home, who knocked Clemson out of the playoffs.They need to go back to the BCS.

Clemson lost to both of the only SEC teams they played this season. Georgia and South Carolina. Alabama beat both of those teams. SMU just lost to a 3 loss Clemson team thats ranked #17 and have 0 ranked wins on the season. If there was no automatic bid for the ACC champion, then Clemson nor SMU would make the playoffs. SMU has 0 bad losses and 0 good wins on the seasson because they do not play in the Big 10, Big 12, or SEC. You cant justify placing SMU over #11 Alabama because alabama has 3 losses after SMU just lost to #17 Clemson with 3 losses. It makes 0 sense. An argument can be made for Alabama to get the 11th seed and Texas the 12th seed. Texas played nobody all year except Georgia and lost twice. I would personally put Ole Miss at 12 and have Texas first team out.

A bunch of power 4 conference teams got weak schedules and pretty much a easy path to the playoffs. I agree bama shot themselves in the foot and smu would of beat the teams alabama lost to but also they probably wouldn't win against the teams bama won against. Just a thought

I’m an Alabama fan. Naturally I want the playoff committee to retain Alabama at # 11. But, I think that SMU will get the nod. Many people just love a Rudy story. They live for the college football equivalent of Miracle on Ice. Such people aren’t the least bit interested in strength of schedule as a playoff selection criterion; they just want a gigantic upset. No matter how many times you serve up TCU vs. Georgia, they howl about brand name bias.

@andrewfranklin4177 That's completely irrelevant and subjective. The fact is that SMU has earned the right to be in the playoffs under the guidelines previously agreed to. If the majority of commissioners had taken the view that the playoffs should be the 12 best teams, then maybe you might have an argument, but that's not what they agreed to. Nor would I say that Alabama is one of the 12 best teams in FBS anyway. Georgia, Texas, and Tennessee deserve to be in the playoffs, but Alabama, Ole Miss, and South Carolina do not. Cope.

Absolutely SMU over Alabama and if I could I’d prefer a BYU too, but Clemson took that spot. No Alabama, only tournament team not to score a touchdown in a game, ugly ugly losses and sketchy wins. Plus in the hunt for a tournament invitation Alabama played Mercer at home in November instead of Ol Miss or any other conference team-they were hiding from competition, that’s not a Champion.

PSU OSU head to head should only matter when both teams have 1 regular loss. Just like any other sport, OSU LOST 2 regular season games PSU didn’t, losing should matter over 1 H2H , H2H should be a tie breaker not the only component.
