Excellent overview. I have been on prednisone for about two years for PMR (poly myalgic rhumatica) with excellent results and have now tapered down to 2.5 mg/day, beginning at 20 mg. No other major side effects but may be bringing on cataracts.

Recently diagnosed with PMR 2 months ago and now I'm on prednisone. When you were tapering down to the 2.5 mg, how did you calculate that? Is it a balance between how much pain you endure versus lowering the dose?

I take 40 mg a day for 5 days for an acute gout attack. It is very effective within a day or two. I decrease the dose usually by day 3.

I was taking 20mg in a day, 10 in the morning and 10 in the evening, the side effects were awful, I had been in a really dark place... Things are slowly getting back to normal but still feeling some insomnia, memory loss and anxiety.

Bottom line...if you take 5 or 10 mls a day short term for a few days for a bad gout attack for example and you then stop, does the side effects if happens like moon face, blood sugar increase, mood swings, what ever go away after stopping? I was given 5 mg pills by the doctor in cases of severe gout attack as this is safer than naproxen as far as kidney damage is concerned. She said take 3 or 4 of the 5 mg pills at one time once a day. I am scared of this! Do the side effects reverse when stopping? If for a short time? How can I drive a car if I may get angry? As for cataracts I have already had the lens replacement Would this apply to me? Scary!

Now I am taking 1 or 2 a day on my own just to keep the rashes down a little bit. There are now symptoms of cataract on both my eyes. Any advice will be much appreciated

Yikes, I'm sorry you're stuck. I'd recommend asking a doctor to help you find the lowest effective dose that keeps the rashes at bay.

İ was given deltacortril prednisolone 5mg by my mother because her doctor apparently prescribed it to her for some non stop itching she has on her body that doesn't go away, and he apparently said that we have to take it as well to prevent this itchiness from being spread in case we have it but we dont know it, but after doing some research this doesnt seem like something we should be taking without consulting with a doctor, can i stop taking the dose after 2 days of taking it?
@PrednisonePharmacist7 ай бұрын
If your taking it for less than 14 days there's no need to taper prednisone. It is important to consult with your doctor before taking this drug.

Is my glaucoma, without vision loss, likely to worsen on 9 mg of prednisone, tapering down? My opthamologist doesnt like me on it but my rheumatologist said nothing works as well.
@PrednisonePharmacist Жыл бұрын
I can’t say for certain in specific cases. But generally both of your doctors are right. The nice part is that your eye doctor is already watching out for it and can give you eyedrops to help.

@@PrednisonePharmacist yes, it’s used to be part of different cancer, treatments traditionally just for the symptoms of the side effects, but nowadays there is more and more evidence about it is suppressing the immune system, and therefore causing faster progress and metastasizing also it causes for breaks to be needed in chemotherapy because of low white blood cell count … Nks & T-cells …

I am on 5mg of prednisone for Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency which means I may be on it for the rest of my life, the thing that puzzles me is if 2.5 mg should be an equivalent to what my body used to make before SAI why do I feel so bad when I have anything but a very quiet day, any extra exercise or a hot day or extra stress and I am feeling bad and if I feel too bad I have to take some extra prednisone to recover.
