PCP does this so he can get follow up visits. Mine started off with bare minimum, no prednisone no colchicine no pain reliever, just allo. I asked what do I do if the flare doesnt go away, he said call the office and they will send something to my pharm. Well a week later flare became worse, called the dr office wanted to set up a phone meeting and charge me and ins. like a office visit. I said no, Im not rewarding him for 5mins of a phone call for his bare minimum service.... Went to urgent care and got prednisone.

Honestly mine worked within a few hours, I was able to go for a nice run after about 4 hours . Pain free going on second day.

Given the excruciating pain of a sudden attack, prednisone works like medical magic. Recently, I went on a low-oxalate diet and saw excellent results. I thought I had a bit of license with certain high purine foods, and had organ meats and cocktails in the same evening after having salmon 2 times earlier in the weak. The attack came on a day I had salad with chopped bacon. It was the worst acceleration of the pain and stiffness I experienced. I went from walking comfortably to hobbling in less than 2 hours. I ramped up a dose of prednisone. 20 mg + 20 mg + 20 mg, staggered, in 12 hours. Worked like a charm.

Only Prednisone can take the pain when I get it in my knee..you’re right I was advised to start with 40 or 50 and taper it down..I’m having my 4th attack in just 4 months ..having gout for the past 12 years though

Dr. Megan…you mentioned fasting might be a trigger for gout? What is the mechanism for this? It is not the first time I have heard this….I participated in one of your workshops and have purchased your supplements. All excellent.

Hi! Can you drink prednisone if you have stage 4 ckd?

The problem I’m finding is they won’t prescribe me more than 10 at a time so I have to do these weird combos to manage the pain. They say prednisone can be bad for prolonged use.

Hello! What specifically are you asking about? Tapering fast? Fasting? Please give me more context and hopefully I can answer better.
