I wonder how difficult is to get a recommendation letter from a professor, let say if i am a stem cell researcher and working under the supervision of a professor and contribute something grate. how likely they are to give me 3 letter of recommendation for phd in top 1000 foreign universities😂. Didi I studied JEE PCM, I've qualified for Advanced (Gen category) but not with a good rank. I have interest only in Maths till now (I came to know abt Olympiad very late so couldn't try them). I've done good in JEE Maths. But my parents tell to pursue CS (as it's the safest bet). I have never done coding so I don't know anything about it. But I've heard many areas of CS involve a lot of Math. If I do BTech, I will do it only in CS but I'm not getting a good college for it (still trying some exams). Should I try for IISER (if I get BS-MS in Data Science in IISER TVM/EnggSc/EcoSc/BS-MS Math, is it worth it?) Can I get a decent (8-10 LPA) placement after BS-MS in these subjects?

It's very difficult to ensure whether you will retain interest in Mathematiks till the end program. Taking Maths Major and Data Science Minor(no extra courses just taking data science in open electives) along with a internship related to coding ( various types) ensures a job with 8-12 as far I have seen. You could see the course structure and compare. In the last years the Mathematics courses are mostly abstract and most of them will not help you in jobs. But if you take Probability, Random Process, Economics, Data Science you can have a mixed learning. I would say better go to IIT(unless you are quite passionate/serious). IISER courses starts very easy and progressively becomes difficult.

Also a note last few years all Maths major students who did data science based course and thesis got placed. I don't know much about all IISER s though. Here you can learn lots of topics also.
