Nobody, not Palestinians and not Israelis, should suffer like this. Healthcare is a human right and civilians are bearing the horrifying brunt of suffering in Palestine and Israel. According to the UN, women and children are faring the worst - including the estimated 50,000 pregnant people living in Gaza. This is a humanitarian crisis about which I feel obligated to speak on as an ObGyn and human. I feel just as helpless as many of you do, so I have to use my platform to speak out against the atrocious conditions faced by innocent civilians who just want to bring their babies into the world safely...something we all can understand.

I was just thinking that the children and any surviving family will NEVER forget or forgive this and it’s going to make some extremist groups like Hamas look appealing. Please try to put yourself in a innocent Gazan civilian shoes for a second)

The Palestinians are being victimized by both sides (including by Hamas). Hamas are horrible cowards using innocent people as human shields. Then the Israelis are committing atrocities by targeting and killing infants, children and every vulnerable population. Both sides are wrong and both sides are evil in this case.

A friend of mine lives in Gaza city, running a private cat shelter (last time I spoke to her, she cared for 60+ cats). Many of her relatives and friends have died (uncle, cousins, neighbours...). Since she refuses to leave those she cares about behind, she's still there, awaiting death. It's hard to keep in touch with her due to electricity shortage, so far I know her house was damaged as well. It may seem like an inappropriate comparison, but I do understand her. I wouldn't want to leave those I love behind either. This isn't meant to ignore Israel's suffering either, but I would highly appreciate a ceasefire.

I gave birth on the 21st of October, and the thought of this weighed heavily on my mind. I couldn’t stop thinking about the villages being attacked, and pregnant women being murdered when they were potentially days away from finally meeting their baby, and never getting to do so. Or even worse. The mother whose baby is only days old, the fear and sadness in her heart when her family is being murdered and her poor baby never even got to experience much of life. It’s all wrong. No matter what age these civilians are. I just cannot imagine. How blessed I am to hold and feed my baby through the night and be so safe in my home.

We are seeing a complete lack of empathy from so many. Your comment is bittersweet to me because so many people don’t take the time to recognize (or I guess refuse to let their minds recognize) the privileges we have here. I thought this video was going to mention some of the horrible situations pregnant women, new mothers and the babies in Gaza could be facing: C-sections without anesthesia, hysterectomies due to no other options to stop excessive postpartum bleeding, having to leave the hospital immediately because there's no room, maybe even having to flee miles by foot right after giving birth, carying your newborn. No breast milk supply because of dehydration and malnutrition, and no clean water to prepare formula with. The anxiety triggering more miscarriages, stillbirths and premature births. The incubators running out of electricity/fuel. And then we're not even talking about the possibility of being bombed anytime, any place. 😔 Anyway, thank you for this video. Glad to see people in favor of a ceasefire ❤️

Maybe not using them as human shield would have allowed them to get the help they need. Mayb if egypt actually opened the border would help. On 7 of october, hamas went into israel, butchered civilians, raped women, alot of times infront of their famillies. Killed pregnant women, beheaded babies. Burned babies alive. There was a pregnant woman who was shot in the head, ofcourse thats not enough so they cut into her belly and stabbed the fetus inside her. How about 245 kidnapped men women and children, the youngest was kidnapped at 9 months old. He is 10 months old now.. maybe. They excecuted atleast 2 hostages by now. How about the women who got snatched from her home and had to give birth there? Taking war hostages (especcially citizens) and raping them, and murdering them is a war crime. A Palestinian mother and her six year old child living in Chicago here in the US were stabbed by their landlord, who broke into their apartment with the intent to kill them both because he was irrationally afraid that they were going to hurt him! They had never hurt anyone--they were just a mother, and her child! The mother thankfully survived, but the child, sadly was killed. this is not a hot take. The question is how do you want to avoid them. Please explain a strategy on how to avoid civilian deaths in a war, where one party does everything in their power to cause civilian deaths by using them as human shields? by hideing between civilians? By operation from civilian objects? Have you ever seen a similar war in history where people did this and sacrificed their own just to weaken the other side? International bullying is the reason why hamas is still a threat and not already defeated and forgotten years ago. And when they don't kill Israelis, they kill and torture Palestinians, but you will never hear about that, because the News isn't interested in a narrative that makes palestinians look bad. So they prefer watching them get killed and tortured by their own people. And can you explain to me why no one cared about civilian deaths during other wars? I know many people from countries who have faced wars the past 10 years and they were very mad about the UN SG's speech where he said that he has never seen so many civilians suffer since he took office. The UN stayed silent for 6 months after the Ethiopian civil war broke out during Covid and 1 Million people died in less than two years. How come the SG doesn't know about this suffering? It only happend recently during the pandemic. Why do only Palestinians matter? They matter even more than Ukranians.

It’s always the everyday people who have to face the brunt of things like this. There is a family from Yemen who lives in my neighborhood. They had to flee their country back in 2011 due to conflicts in their country, and the threat of extreme food insecurity, and starvation. The dad works nonstop to provide for his family here, and to send money to his family members back in his home country. My children play with their children, and their son has told us stories that he can remember from Yemen, and there is pain there when he talks about it. There is also pain because children he goes to school with have called him awful, terrible things because their parents have told them that everyone from the Middle East is evil. It absolutely broke my heart. Children, no matter where they are from, do not have any control over what adults in their government do, and there are a whole lot of people who need to just have even a basic level of empathy for what it would be like to have to experience these things as a child.

Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, women are suffering & dying from pregnancy & childbirth. Male doctors are not allowed to attend female patients, and female doctors are no longer allowed to work unless they have a male chaperone. So if a female Dr’s 10 year old son refuses to be her chaperone, she can’t leave her home & pregnant patients, even if in distress, cannot be cared for. Maternal & newborn mortality has skyrocketed. Women & children always pay the price for men’s brutality.

Yes, you do have to know a lot about this conflict to have a qualified opinion. Everything you said shows that you know nothing. You do realize that billions of dollars were donated to Palestinians? Much more than the Marshall Plan for Europe after WWII. And what did the Palestinian leaders do with that money? 1. They funded themselves. All Palestinian leaders are at least Multi Millionaires. The Hamas leaders are even Multi billionaires and Arafat died a Multi billionaire. 2. They invested in terrorism, weapons, 500km long tunnels under hospitals, schools, mosques, etc. in order to hide between civilians when they attack Israel. 3 They invested in child indoctrination that consists of 3 things: A child soldier camps, B children TV shows that teach children to kill the Jews , C education that teaches children to kill the Jews. How much money went into building the economy and helping Gazans? Probably not much, as 50% of Gazans are unemployed and live off donations. Instead of building for people they invest in a never ending war and the US has been funding it with tax payer money. Every Western country has been funding this. And Hamas announced in Lebanese TV that they will repeat the 10/7 attacks again and again and again, even if it takes a Million times, until Israel is gone. Now I want to ask you what would you want your government to do, if you would face such a threat in you neighbourhood? Where do you live? Just imagine this would hapen 24/7 next to you. @leilabhl since Hamas came to power in Gaza in 2006 there have been tens of thousands of rockets shot into Israel targeting the civilian population. In June 2006 Gilad Shalit was kidnapped into Gaza. That led to the first war between Israel and Gaza since Israel unilaterally left Gaza in 2005. Since then there have been countless more rocket attacks, terror attacks, kidnappings/murders (3 teenagers were kidnapped in 2014 which led to another war). I can't go through the whole history, because it's over 15 years worth, but just because you don't hear about the other side in the mainstream media doesn't mean things didn't happen. Also to clarify, Hamas isn't all Palestinians. But they do want to wipe Israel off the map and have been very open about that fact. Since October 7th they've gone on air saying that they're justified and they plan to do more attacks like that. Unfortunately Israel can't just accept that and a ceasefire would only help Hamas.

Double would be over 2.5 Million "Why do children make up such a large portion of the population? The reasons are varied. Many Palestinians simply don't get the chance to grow old - dying in their early adulthood either in conflicts or due to a struggling healthcare system - which drags the averages down." Furthermore, when faced with the fact that Israel, is occupying Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, your reply, saying "Sorry, I won't move to Alaska", is but a confirmation, that you know Israel is invading Palestinian territory, and you chose to ignore that.

It's tough for me. I feel terrible for the innocent pwople in Gaza, but I also have sympathy for the Israeli people. Their babies were murdered and stolen in an unprompted assault, and those monsters still have them. If somebody stole and was holding my baby, I would want my country to do everything possible to get them back. But of course, Israeli strikes should not be targeting civilians. Also, Hamas is a shadow group. Its not like they are in a centralized building with a sign out front. They are responsible for this and they could stop it any time they want to by returning the hostages and stopping all attacks and they choose not to do that, despite the suffering of the Palestinians. It is so filled with nuance that it is hard to know what to do. I am ambivalent on the matter and I don't know what the right answer is, or if there even is one. I just want this to stop and for everybody to be safe. There are no winners here.

🇮🇱 Israel rejected a hostage deal that would include the release of 71 people and a 5-day ceasefire, journalist Seymour Hersh reported. This is a clear indication to the Israeli public that Netanyahu does not care about the hostages in Gaza and will do his best to screw them up along with the Palestinians i can't believe you are trying to justify the indiscriminate killing of Palestinian children... look at the death toll of israel vs Palestinians Gaza has one of the youngest populations in the world, with 47% under 18 years old, and the health ministry is reporting that as of November 6, 4,104 children have been killed. UN officials estimate that as of November 5, about 1,270 children have been reported missing and may be trapped under rubble.

Perhaps, if there isn’t one already you could start a petition/join a group of obstetricians calling for better immediate maternal healthcare for Palestinian mothers-to-be and their newborns. (I don’t know for certain, but I would imagine the (now 1-2% of the population) of Palestinian Christians may also be undergoing the same problems now). Please keep us posted. Perhaps Save the Children or Doctors Without Borders would either have something or would like to have your help in starting something like a petition or program to help this critical group. Carry the Future is also supporting Palestine, but since it is usually volunteers flying themselves to places with baby carriers, diapers and such, I doubt they are physically able to be ‘on the ground’. They may have an agent for getting items like that in, however. 💕

Dear Dr. Jones, I’ve been watching your videos for months now, and I have always been impressed by your humanity and passion in advocating for women. First of all, thank you for acknowledging, at least briefly, the victims of the October 7th massacre by Hamas terrorists. You’ll notice that the WHO does not do so; neither does it express concern for the many women who were systematically sexually assaulted that day. Some of those killed, maimed or raped on October 7th may well have been your viewers - the communities decimated that day were some of the most progressive in Israel, full of feminist peace activists and volunteers who drove Gazans to medical appointments. If October 7th hadn’t happened, many of its victims would still be out every Saturday protesting Israel’s government, which is probably the worst and most right-wing in its history. But October 7th did happen, and other progressive people all over the world came out to express their solidarity with their torturers, murderers, and rapists (and that was before Israel had done anything to retaliate). It is difficult to explain the degree to which this day changed everything for Israelis and Jews everywhere; even for people such as myself who do not live in Israel and were not directly affected, there is a “before” and an “after”. So the fact that you do mention it, albeit as an “all lives matter”-style disclaimer, means a lot in the current climate. The death and suffering of women and children - and of all civilians in Gaza - are real and truly horrible. What is entirely missing from the WHO report, and therefore from your video, is that maximising these deaths and this suffering - and then publicising them and triggering the indignation of well-meaning people like you - is Hamas’ military strategy. Hamas - as the government of Gaza - has always purposely and systematically used hospitals, schools, mosques, UN facilities, ambulances, etc for military purposes (to hide fighters, to store weapons, to launch rockets, and now also to hide hostages). With the international aid meant for rebuilding Gaza, its government has instead built an extensive network of tunnels under ordinary people’s houses, under schools, mosques, and under hospitals, for the purpose of launching attacks, protecting its fighters, storing weapons, and allowing its fighters to move through Gaza undetected. This has been documented during the current war, and extensively documented throughout the past decades; as one example among many, Amnesty International’s 2015 description of a Hamas detention and torture centre in the outpatient clinic area of Al-Shifa hospital makes for grim reading - yes, that Al-Shifa hospital, the one that our colleagues swear has always been a hospital and nothing else. This is why there is no possible way to fight Hamas without targeting civilian infrastructure - because civilian infrastructure is where Hamas is. There is also no way to supply civilians without the resources going primarily to Hamas. This is why, for example, preemies are dying for lack of fuel, but there is plenty of fuel to fire rockets from launching pads located right next to hospitals. This is how Hamas has survived for this long: launch attacks from behind the backs of Palestinian children, and once enough of them die the international community will force Israel to stop fighting you. Except that this time the stakes are different. (I won’t go into other issues, such as the unpredictable performance of rockets launched by Hamas and other terrorist groups, so that they often fall inside Gaza and cause untold casualties, which are then blamed on Israel - the Islamic Jihad rocket hitting the al-Ahli Hospital being a well-documented case in point). This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t talk about Palestinian women and children suffering and dying. This doesn’t even mean that you shouldn’t call for an immediate ceasefire - as long as you truly believe that you would have called for one a month after an event with ten times the casualties of 9/11; if Al-Qaeda, as the elected government of New Jersey with an army of tens of thousands of people with weapons supplied by Iran, were holding hostage women they had raped, babies, toddlers, and very sick old people; if they were declaring their intention to repeat 9/11 again and again; and if they were shooting multiple rockets at multiple cities in New York State every day from New Jersey schools and hospitals (all while kids in New Jersey were dying for lack of fuel). And it definitely doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t condemn Israel for specific instances - of which I suspect there have been many - when it causes civilian casualties that are avoidable, or when it causes suffering gratuitously. But when you frame Palestinian civilians’ suffering as a whole in a way that sounds like Israel is bombing babies just for the fun of it, your indignation becomes precisely the purpose this suffering serves.
