In Denmark, we pay our taxes preliminary - throughout the year until the point of tax assessment. This means that we pay taxes from every salary throughout the year, and then we can see at the end of the tax year, whether we paid the right amount of taxes for that year.
But to do that, we need a preliminary income assessment - what do we expect to earn? This can be a difficult process to guess a whole year’s income in one instance. Therefore, SKAT allows you to change the preliminary income as many times per year, as you’d like.
This, in addition, affects your tax card, which changes with your preliminary income, so you pay the right amount of tax throughout the year. This tax card is crucial for your employer, so he can correctly pay your salary and your taxes.
We've partnered up with Daniel from yourtax.dk, to give you overviews and tips, as to how to handle taxes as a student in Denmark.
This series will be followed by a live event in Aarhus, Denmark on the 24th of March 2020, where you can meet Daniel in person, and ask him any questions you might have regarding taxes. Follow our Facebook page so you won't miss it.
