Smith and Sniff

Күн бұрын

Filmed in February 2020, Jonny and Richard talk about a lot of things, but principally Jonny's old housemate who had a fervent belief in the power of VTEC and was once so mashed he had to ring the home phone from his bedroom to ask someone to bring him up a glass of water. Enjoy it, folks. This is the last Smith & Sniff video for a while but there's a podcast on the way.

It's pretty niche stuff tbf. Hard to explain to people in a way that sounds interesting too which makes getting new people to watch it easier said than done. Best I've managed to come up with is "Two blokes chatting shit in various cars, sometimes trying to review them but failing miserably", doesn't exactly sound like the most thrilling content, does it?

Belinda Carlisle drove a Saab 9-3 Convertible for about 8yrs. I used to service it for her (Ex Saab master tech). 4yrs Ago she went to get rid of it so i took it off her hands and its now my wifes car. Got to say she doesnt look after her cars, it was Minging inside. So bad we had to replace the seats, door cards and carpet.

Jonny that is hilarious - brilliant stories. My aunt had a boyfriend from Cov once and the family called him “Top End” because he’d always ask people what their motor did top end. A particular gem was when he told us that him and his brother did a ton twenny down the Nuneaton bypass in his Hillman Hunter.... and still had three inches of peddle left !! Coventry in the 80s was a brilliant place for auto bullshit.

A bit of a S'n'S video crossover comment maybe, I recently went to a metal gig to see the frontman of Rammstein's 'side project' band Lindemann. For some reason that brought the goths out in droves. Now as a regular metal gig-goer I thought I was pretty broad minded, but seeing some really pretty goth ladies who had gone all out with facial and neck tattoos, hand tattoos, earlobes with dinner plates embedded in them was a new one for me. Most of the tattoos made them look like they had a black lace doilie imprinted on their faces. Was a different look for certain, not sure it was one that once they ventured beyond their early twenties they would not quickly regret. God I am old :D

@@jctothel My craziest Bagley's story is a mate and myself managed to convince security that we had started a dance music website (this was 1998) and we wanted to review something or other, I can't remember what and managed to blag our way into the VIP bit upstairs where we sat between two lads who claimed to be Roni Size's nephews (they may well have been blagging like we were). Anyway it was a very weird atmosphere and we went back down to the main floor pretty quickly. And this happened in 1998, the year before Human Traffic came out - I'm sure they stole our blag for their plot. Or maybe everyone was doing it. Ended up in a right state in a flat back in Tunbridge Wells after that as well. Heavy night.

Ralph Hardwick Ha! That’s hilarious, as I once met someone in there who reckoned he was LTJ Bukem’s son! Probably the same guy you met! Also remember sitting in a sofa next to a couple who I thought were arguing, turned out in closer inspection she was jerking him off! That place had an amazing atmosphere but I was always a bit wary of its dodgier side no matter how mashed up I was!

I'm not a goth myself, though I have knocked about with a fair few of them in my time. My circle and theirs tended to mix a fair bit due to mutual interests. It's less an obsession with death and satanism more a fascination with the occult, witchcraft and that kinda thing, due to this "Wicca" is pretty popular in those circles. (Pagan witchcraft) That'll be what that hex in the Guinness is about I'd bet.
