Came for a stuck foot pedal, stayed for the Autumn leaves

Hi Mr. Jeffries, I just now came across your video, and am very thankful that you have posted your series of video's on the Timpani. Premier timpani pedal mechanisms are very, very similar to the pedal of the Symphonic Models made by Slingerland Drum Co. which I own two of. The only difference being that the "spider" is on the inside of the bowl on the Slingerland. Would it be okay if I ask some questions regarding the pedal?

Is the premier system similar to the slingerland? One of them just got stuck and I was wondering if the mechanism could be fixed with this hak. Any help is welcome I am kinda in panic

Hi Paul, I play in a concert band & have Premier Pedal Timpani. (Like the one in the video). I'd like to ask, should we put oil or grease on the post (grip rod) that the pedal goes up and down on? Some of them feel a little sticky, they hadn't been used at all during the pandemic. Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul, It depends on whether they have ever been serviced. If they are straight from Premier, the grease they use is proprietary, and can therefore be re-hydrated with a thin oil. Grease on the post will not go into the clutch block. Paul Jefferies

@@orchperc Thanks for your reply Paul. They are about 20 yrs old and haven't been serviced.

@@paulobrienmus Everything depends on how willing you are to get your hands dirty. I get drums through that haven't been serviced over that sort of timescale - it says something about these drums that they still work after all that time without attention. What I find is that often the grease has dried out and it is common that bits stick on the ball bearings which prevents them from rotating and may well be the cause of your stickiness. Path of least resistance would be to squirt some penetrating oil on the grip rod. Do it a few times over the weeks and see if helps, if it does the grip rod can be greased which will further help things. Paul
