I don't know why all the hate for John Bohlinger. The video opens with: "Tell me a little bit about this guitar." It's a natural, dry approach. It's not sexy, but it doesn't need to be. Let the interviewee be the personality. Previous Rig Rundowns are filled with loaded questions and personal input that isn't necessary. See the J Mascis for an example, in which the interviewer said something like, "I also like high action too, it makes it easier to play" or something to that it effect. It doesn't seem appropriate for the interviewer to force his or her way into the interview. It's not his or her place to assert themselves into the interview in such a way.

I haven't been watching these rig rundowns that long. I've probably seen a half-dozen of them. I always enjoy them. Although some people commented that this one seemed a bit awkward, I don't think it was John Bollinger's fault. He asked the right questions in a good way. Both Jonny and his tech were just not particularly relaxed and smooth in what they said. Regardless, I think it was great--very informative, and it gave me a sense of Jonny's personality and his gear, which is the goal.

In case you missed it check out "When Love Comes To Town" on Herbie Hancock's little known "Possibilities" Project Album and DVD, Jonny just tears it up, there are many other great songs on the album too (Annie Lennox etc) but Jonny's screaming riffs, Herbie's incredible piano playing and THE best all around drummer around IMHO Steve Jordan, either live or studio he just kick's ass period. I would have given my left nut to play with a drummer that good, he lays down such a heavy groove that Jonny just lays back and then explodes in some of his best, tasty riffs and licks ever.
@greendunn110 жыл бұрын
I really like that guitar tech. He seems like he enjoys his job. The fact that they use stock instruments (not talking about that beautiful Tele) makes them even cooler. Most of the time, all the instruments are outa phase, coil split/tapped, Keily mysterious mod, with a wang thang bending the flip chip on the flux orange sprague capacitor.

I applaud the effort to upgrade the production value. I think the kinks will be ironed out after a while. Right now I think the editing is disorienting. Just as you figure out what you're looking at and *where* it is, the video cuts to a close up shot from an entirely different angle and you lose your bearings.

OK. So the middle pick-up that looks like it's taped on there is part of the Custom Shop design deal or no...? Either way, I find this extraordinarily funny! Custom Shop duct tape is a whole new concept for me!!
@gr81dorn10 жыл бұрын
None of those pickups came from the custom shop. Fender made 2 of these in the late 90s (one natural and one cherry burst'ish) and they had fender WRHBs and a Duncan p90 in the middle. Then in like 2002/3 or somewhere around there they made this black one with the WRHBs and a Duncan p90 in the middle. Then like 2006-7 or so, his tech took out the WRHBs and put in the Wilde (Bill and Becky Lawrences) in the neck and bridge and had nice trim rings made for it so it looked really seamless. Then, much more recently, like within the last year I'd guess, they put another L-500 from the Lawrences in the middle, but must have hacked it in there, especially since it was a P90 route, and it looks sloppier now, but none of those pickups were done when the guitar was built.

Cory Hollenhorst Thanks, Cory. That update is very much appreciated! Due to the nature and limitations of the rig run-down, it's easy to see how some of the finer points are passed-by. Rock On...
