Great rundown. Not the first time Gibson has done a 24 fret guitar though. They're been doing them since the 80s. I had a 1988 SG90 that had a 24 fret neck. They had a V version of it too.
@TimSterling19812 жыл бұрын
Think Dave meant to say they’ve never done a 24-fret Flying V before, because he’s said that in a few interviews…however, Gibson’s done a few custom shop baritone Vs with 24 frets for Robb Flynn of Machine Head, one of which his Epiphone signature model was based on. It IS their first 24-fret Flying V with the normal 24.75” Gibson scale length. So he’s only half wrong when claiming it’s the first 24-fret V they did.

Just got to mention that I love Kiko and Dirk in Megadeth. Kiko is an awesome ambassador to the public for the band his you tube videos are so cool. I think those modern Les Pauls come in around 8 lbs and that’s about average electric guitar weight, not noticeably lighter, not an anchor either. Love the classical flamenco acoustic stuff Kiko does really reminiscent of some of Marty’s acoustic fills and just fits in Megadeth.

Dave and Kiko are great guys. I'm not sure if Dave just referred to that Gibson made the first V with 24 frets I think that was what he meant to say because I actually own a 2014 Gibson SG that has 24 frets so he probably talking obviously about Gibson Vs. He is a great and humble guy and he really appreciate his fans. Also it was about time he got his signature Gibson guitar. Lol I feel better now knowing that a 3x3 headstock still confuses Dave too . Too me the Silver Vs are what I see when I think about Dave all the way back to the Jackson V with the Kahler. I’m hoping his Kramer V is more modern shaped V like a mashup of his Deans and Jacksons a an aggressive cut without bevels and Kramer pyramid logo headstock would be sick . Interesting what Dave said about Gibson not setting up artist guitars . James tried to get a Iron Cross and said that the company was impossible to work with. Now looks like we might be getting at least a Hetfield inspired 84 Explorer. Also interesting to me at least that James got a white Jackson King V around the time Dave got his . The story I heard is that James loved the white Jackson and used it in the studio on a classic Metallica album. Two of my favorite guitarist could be endorsed by Gibson if the James deal happens. James and Metallica got me into guitar and I like old Metallica but I discovered Megadeth and Megadeth is my band. I wish they asked Dave about his Epiphone and Kramers, something for us broke fans and guitarist. Another side note I had one of his Dean imports silver set neck and live wires and it was a very nice guitar the neck was phenomenal and I’m an Ibanez guy and like Wizards but his D shaped Dean neck wasn’t thin but it wasn’t as thick as some modern strats and Charvels it was like a chubby wizard and it was just right.

Captures are just magic and are better feeling to me than what the Kemper did, and I'm no shoegaze tap dancer, so the effects included so far are more than enough for what I need. Also, like Kiko and Dave, all my preset/scene changes are programmed via MIDI so I don't even have to be anywhere near my QC when it's time for a lead or a clean part etc. Modelers have become great sounding tools in the past 10 years, but this is the first time they got the "feel" right in my opinion. I could plug you into my rig and tell you it was all analog and you wouldn't argue with me.

Great rig rundown but I feel like the guy interviewing could have focused more on the patches they are using in the quad cortex. Yes the tech said Dave was using a JCM800 patch. But what about the Cab model he is using, is it a stock cab in the cortex or a custom IR that goes to the PA? Also, ask more about Kiko’s cortex as well. What Friedman model? What cab model? What effects for the lead patches and what model are the using on the effects - like what brand/model? They are not really focusing that much on the sounds. Just saying we use a quad cortex basically. Kiko gave some good info but Dave’s tech didn’t really say much.

For their worldwide 2022 run, both guitarists were using the Quad Cortex. Kiko preferred relying on Friedman BE patches, where Dave stayed familiar with Marshall settings. Both split their units between direct to FOH and onstage to Marshall Dave Mustaine Signature 1960B-DM 4x12s loaded with G12-V30 Marshall Celestion custom Dave Mustaine Vintage speakers.

@@premierguitar Thanks PG for the info. Would be cool to ask what cab models they are using in the Cortex that goes to FOH or any custom IRs being used for next time because that doesn't seem to be talked about.

Dang Dave's looking old, but it's great seeing him still touring, rocking out, and doing interviews! I saw him at the first show of his tour with Lamb of God and he and the band did great.

Michael Schenker chose the V for the same reason. His early performances with UFO highlighted his thigh bracing style.

Yes, Dave is a great designet, the ESP DV-8 that came to be the V for ESP, Michael Paget adopted as well, that one is one of the best looking guitars that have ever existed, the Dean VMNT is jnot so bad but these Gibsons he designed look great, of course it's a V with an explorer neck, and still nobody had done it before, I agreen with the "cavern thing" I prefer a guitar to have everything mounted on the body, I don't mind pickguards, but Dave's designs are great, except for the axxion.
