My Band opened for Slayer at the Stone in San Francisco. It was one of our worst concerts ever. Slayer's fan's were booing the entire time, and then a guy flipped me off in my face, following me if I changed sides. It was a nightmare. We cut our set down a few songs. After the concert, I was in our dressing room, no one was talking I was looking at the floor. Then Tom came in and said where's the singer. I raised my hand and he walked over. I said I was sorry it didn't turn out well. Tom told me not to worry, we did fine. Tom basically said I think our fans want no opening acts, just Slayer. He then said some really nice things and made me feel a lot better. I was stunned at what a nice person he was. I could tell he had a good family and was raised very well. He's a really good person.

I saw a similar thing when I went to the Cavalera's show. Max and Iggor were playing old Sepultura stuff, and a band was opening for them. The band was amazing and they have some headbanging riffs but the damn crowd was DEAD, LEGIT DEAD. The singer was telling the people to mosh but NOBODY WOULD MOSH like YO... It pissed me off. After that I went for a beer and I bought some tshirt and their record, the band was there so I toke some photos and they signed the CD and everyting. They're nice guys and the singer looks a lot like Phil Anselmo. I understand your frustration but don't you dare to give up, pussy

Yo dude, you should feel proud that you got to do what a lot of bands only dream of doing. Every band has bad shows. What's the name of your band? I personally would love to hear your band if you have anything on KZbin. But most people do only want to hear Slayer if you go to a Slayer show. No offense but the opening band for Slayer is irrelevant. Unless it's another big name band.

@@lassed57 Np, yes very thin strings have less tension so they take less force to press down, less force to bend, less force to hammer on or pull off, and less force to pick. So many people use an old ibanez tube screamer Its amazing that pedal is the tone everybody wants!
@GimmeJimmy235 жыл бұрын
I think part of it is just what the pedal does . . . It pushes the amp into a natural overdrive rather than just destorting, right? I've been using mine on numerous different amps lately, and I've noticed, what it does with a marshall plexi sounds totally different to my ears than the effect through my crate 2x12, for example, but sounds amazing in both cases. Plus, it is great as a clean boost, in addition to producing some iconic overdriven tones . . . What's not to like? Not to say there aren't a million other great tones one could get with other effects/amps/configurations, however . . .
@capoman18 ай бұрын
It's in every metal guitarists chain. Even works in amp sims. I never owned any pedals, but I did have a digitech floor unit as a kid... If I had that rig now I'd know to look for the overdrive pedal going into my distortion channel.

C# standard with 10's is like playing hair to me. When one tours and plays like that however, it is best to be as efficient with one's energy as possible - especially as one gets older and perhaps doesn't snort shit up their nose anymore. You've seen the pic of Kerry and Tom on the lyric sheet for Hell Awaits eh? 11s in Eb and 10s for E standard for me. Last I checked I'm not in Slayer playing music that fast and constant for 2 hours a night on international tours though :) Michael Schenker and Joe Satriani use 9s. Al Dimeola and Frank Zappa used 8s. Stevie Ray Vaughn was said to use between 11s and 13s. It's fascinating to me to learn who uses what and for what reasons. I love the Quest For Tone. I'm not alone here am I my brothers? MARSHALL, mahogany, ebony, rosewood, Alnico II, V and Ceramic. Vintage 30's, EL34 and 84s. Magic. :D

Gary's comments about Kemper at the end just sold me on the fact that my Silver Jubilee and Fender 65 will be my last tube amps.

Tom seems such a genuinely nice guy - a monster on stage, completely relaxed and thoughtful off duty...

Going Back to These iconic/historic R.R. Interesting picking up things either I missed or didn’t understand the first 20x I watched these “Vintage” episodes. Always learning and keeping things Fresh. If I could inly afford my Dream (Tubed-Marshall, Gibson Configuration) It would make these even better try adjust ,tweak and mod as I do now…

Kerry King: "Dont wanna make up a solo? Go land on that Trem and now you've got a solo..." That DEFFFFINITELY explains alot!

Kerry seems cool and much Respect for paying respect to Dimebag and Kenny Stabler
@neberque8 жыл бұрын
+ecgodsmack86 He and Dime were really good friends.Kerry used to often come out and play Hostile with Pantera if he was in the area
@willyorkmusic4677 жыл бұрын
ecgodsmack86 yeah that was cool, and I sawed Gary had a #2 sticker on his rack drawer to pay tribute to Paul Gray from Slipknot, I thought that was cool too

Kerry and Gary both know their shit back and forth; if something's off they would know. Damn good to see as many modern performers don't even know what key they're playing in.

Met the boys backstage at the War field in 1998. Kerry is the 🐐, nicest dude ever. Not a hint of rockstar. Just a bad ass metal man. Normal dudes killing it

KK is not the worst guitarist but Gary is like a 100x better. Gary's awesome and the genius riffs he made in Exodus are amazing. Still al these guys are just legends.

4:24; As someone who just saw Slayer two nights ago and was about 20-30 feet from Kerry King, I can confirm that the chains are REAL. I could hear them clanging together as he walked offstage. Also I think Gary is using the Silver Jubilee now. His Marshall heads weren't black, that's for sure.
@danim58818 жыл бұрын
metalmusician6798 Yea he is. With Exodus he's using the kemper.

Does anyone know why Kerry had a ipod hooked up to his rig?
@waynesmith74711 жыл бұрын
probably to listen to MUSIC
@D3ft0ne11 жыл бұрын
What's an ipod doing there at 10:47?
@premierguitar11 жыл бұрын
Kerry's tech mentioned to us after the shoot that the iPod is only there for intros on like "Raining Blood" (for the ambient rain/thunder) and other songs that have samples that can't be recreated with guitars, bass, drums. --PG Staff
