This is an aspect I so respect and enjoy of musicians of Mastodon's caliber--their knowledge is vast. Yes, they create amazing music. Beat, sound, tone, complexity with lyrics that engage and hold me. But they're amazing humans. Every time I hear a member of Mastodon interviewed I enjoy it. They're solid, real. Nothing phony. They love each other and the songs. They're funny! Troy and Brann have made me laugh out loud on numerous occasions. Beyond all that, though, added to all of that, comes this language they are all fluent in. Listen to them talk about their instruments, all the parts of each piece, what each bit of gear does. I hear the same when they talk about the music itself, the facets of music composition. They aren't just players of great music. They're artisans.
@rtmis19 жыл бұрын

I remember doing a rig rundown with Brent before a Four Hour Fogger show (Troy was in that band as well). He had a Les Paul going straight through his amp and had killer tone. He said he did not like pedals at all and preferred an organic sound. In hindsight (Bent Hindsight - ha) I think maybe he did not have the dough (although here his pedals are pretty simple). He also did not play solos in FHF either (he did in another band Fiend Without a Face).

For those unaware, Troy was also in a band called Social Infestation before Mastodon, more of a crust/sludge sound
