I build decks on the side from my full time job. And I'm not easily impressed. But I'm definitely impressed with this craftsmanship!!! People always ask me if I can do different pattern inlays. And when I give them the extra labor cost to do it they always ask why so much! Well its time consuming that's why!!!Good job guys!!!

@livens100
@livens100 3 жыл бұрын
A very basic rule of thumb calculation for Decks and Privacy Fencing: Labor Cost = Material Cost x 3. Used to build 6' privacy fences and that figure worked out great. But composite decking varies in cost between lines and cheaper Trex would cost the same to install than the more pricey Deckorators Voyage. But then if you want fancy inlays like this guy did that is going to cost you more in labor. I built a deck similar to this but smaller, only 260 sqft, from the ground up. Using Trex Select total DIY cost was $7k, and that included a covered pergola over the whole thing. Easy $28k if I had someone build it for me.

Can you give me some advice on building my deck? I'm planning on 12x12 using trex enhance 12 ft boards with their hidden fasteners. What spacing should I set my footers? I was thinking of notching my posts 2", and making them around 11.5' on length to give a .25" overhang on the sides not sure on width spacing and everything. My research tells me that each board is around 5.736" using the spacers, which gives me 25.10 boards. Any advice?

What is epic about this? Basic pattern here. And who still face screws. Nice work but the face screws gotta go
@livens100
@livens100 3 жыл бұрын
Face screws with plugs hold better than hidden groove fasteners. And when picture framing you can't use the hidden fasteners on the boards that run perpendicular to the inner boards. Plus on shorter runs, like his inlay, hidden fasteners can allow the board to slip if someone is running and stops quick. Plus plus hidden fasteners require 1/4" gap which he did not want... LOTS of reasons to still face screw with a Cortex plug system or similar.

I would love to watch this video, but that background sound so irritating. So many of us out here cannot tolerate that scratchy pounding noise that people put in the background of their videos. You don't need, it just talk. No one will NOT watch your video if you don't have the noisy background sounds. But many of us will not watch it because of those annoying background sounds. Think about it.
