What is the compromise /advantage vs the old "all season" category? Aside from just being more expensive. Also love your channel.
@Jeo-What
@Jeo-What Ай бұрын
@ The old "All Season" category is really a "Tree (or two and half) season" tires while the "All-Weather" has the 3PMSF snow flake symbol which means unlike the "M+S" symbol that requires no test or regulation for everyone to stamp on any tires, the 3PMSF snow flake symbol can only be stamped on the tire when it passes the minimum requested snow performance tests... unless the manufacture cheats!

I love my TrueContact Tour 54 on my Civic. For being a tire that is intended to have maximum life, it handles incredibly well. I did notice a bit of noise as well, but nothing major. I've also had to test it in the rain by panic stopping around a blind corner and it felt like it still stopped on a dime. I tried the Nokian One before I switched them for the Tour 54 and had persistent issues with the Nokian following grooves in the road, wandering, and an annoying vibration between 65-75mph even after having it balanced twice. The Continentals feel better so far.

I'd love to see these tires tested in full winter conditions against dedicated winter tires. I can state for a fact that the Michelin Defender 2 is useless in snow, but is good for 100,000 miles even on a heavy minivan.

@@usmc4eternitey Just got mine tour 54 today from discount tire. Too early to tell the differences vs my previous Conti ProContact TX but it seems to be smoother in ride and lower noise. In general, the highway drive is feeling better and the brake has certainly improved. I wonder if it is due to the new tire effect. I will do some basic check on the mileage after a few hundred miles. But after checking out this video, I might consider Toyo C Sport or Falken 250 SN next time for my next tire replacement as they are affordable and great in drive as well.

Real World Tire Test Part 1: 12/21/2024( 7:30PM)-12/22/2024(12:00PM)Route: Colorado Springs, CO to Santa Ana, CA -GPS MILES 1,087 -Real Miles driven with short stops along route 1,099 Tires:CONTINENTAL TRUE CONTACT TOUR 54s. ( Installed 12/14/2024) Vehicle: Stock 2015 Prius Plug In Maintenance- Oil/ Oil Filter Change( 12/20/2024) , Spark Plug Change 12/20/2024) , Radiator/Inverter Coolant Drain/Fill 12/20/2024) , Transmission Drain/Fill ( 12/14/2024), dealership alignment on 54s(12/14/2024) The Continental True Contact Tour 54s did a great job on Part 1 of this trip. Compared to the 50 dollar West Lake tires I was running on the Prius since 2018 these are a big difference . With the bumps/dips along the road I could tell they were more ? Softer? squishy? The road noise was well, its a Prius lol .I could hear all the wind rushing by and not the tires at 85+ MPH. And yes those are the speed limits through Utah and Nevada. The handling and steering response was really solid. Especially since at the high mph speeds .we( wife and I) had to avoid a few objects that were in the middle of our lane in the middle of the night ( basketball size rock, random plastic container box? , dead animal, ) . Breaking was solid and 100% saved us through holiday rush hour in SoCal( no emergency breaking, thank god) .It was a dry drive and so far they have really been worth the money. My wife noticed a difference on the Prius when she was driving and she’s not into cars/tires. Part 2 / Final thoughts will be posted AFTER I get back home.

Real World Tire Testing Part 2 : 12/30/2024( 5:00PM ) - 12/31/2024 ( 12:40PM) Route: Santa Ana, CA to Colorado Springs, CO Miles Driven: 1,134 Alright, on the way back to CO we had no problems with these tires. They performed well under high speeds 80-95MPH for long periods of time through Utah and CO AND low temps since most of this way back at night was 5 degrees to 28 degrees. So below freezing temps. They did well in light snow and puddles that were on the I-70 and they did a great job through traffic on the long way down hill that people from CO should know that gets you from the mountains down into Denver . That stretch is sketchy this time of year because of drivers who drive super slow cause they’re scared of the snow and because of drivers who simply don’t care and will cause accidents since they go fast . My wife and I were just trying to get home so we did a little of both since we had been driving for like 15 hours at that point. I drove around 700 miles in CA( those miles are not part of this count) and the tires did a hell of a job with quick lane changes and stops and swerving. Its SoCal and driving there is the wild west so you better adapt fast or else you’ll be missing your entrances and exits. It also rained while we were there and they did fine. By fine I mean we didnt even notice the rain. I’ve hit a few pot holes in CA and here in CO and they havent popped lol so thats good. Its pretty cold out in CO so I’ll be posting anther quick review on how the tires look wear wise. Also, too see if I have any nails or damage. Umm, the steering response was great especially at those high speeds and the handling was also the same. Honestly, i realized that I didnt like how loud it can get inside the prius at hjgh speeds since you hear nothing but loud wind. Oh! On brand new roads in CA at high speeds It felt so good and I didnt hear any tire noise. But I also didnt have my windows down. My prius is FWD and I got them for the long tread life. I take care of my tires cause I’m poor and tires are a big expense lol . The Prius and this tire match well and I didnt have any issues. I think in total I’ve put about 3,500 miles on these tires in less than a month so I’ll be doing a tire rotation at 5,000-6,000 miles. It’s CO so we’ll be snowing snow so I’ll Let you guys know how they do but please remember that these are not winter tires. I do not expect them to be super performing in the heavy snow or with black ice. Thats why we have snow chains/cables .

@ “It does not excel in the snow” umm source? Because I’ve tried it, Blizzak, and CC2. Go feel the WeatherPeak vs any other all weather. It is way softer. I had the Blizzaks before and neighbor has CC2. WeatherPeak is pretty much Blizzak that that does not melt in the summer. If you love snow driving, WeatherPeak is the way.

Thank you for these testes as they are very informative. I like to read between the lines on these results. If the tire I like performs well except on cornering, what can I do to improve it? For example, buy a higher speed rated tire would come with softer compound and harder sidewalls for increasing both grip and cornering at the same time to solve the problem. It will be amazing to see these tire tested when they only have 2mm or 4mm tread depth left since not all of them are manufactured with full depth treads which losses their optimum performances before half way into the ownership like some of their own CGI emulations showing. Looking forward to the snow testing hopefully on all these tires new and down to 2mm/4mm since it's one of the the most important reason to purchase a set of All-Weather tires.

Yes, Continental has clearly put a lot of effort into creating a well-rounded touring product, and as both a successor to prior Grand Touring and Standard Touring All-Season products as well as its own merits, the TrueContact Tour 54 is, plainly, a good tire. If you’d like to read more about it, we have an accompanying write-up on our website as well: Tire Test Results: bit.ly/3OQ0zv2. We don’t currently test for MPG - but Continental developed the TrueContact Tour 54 to be efficient for both ICE vehicles and EVs.

@@Jazz16-we1qc Currently I’m at 54MPG but I drive a a Prius Plug In so I normally get around 54-60MPG. Also it’s below 32 degrees here in Colorado so you start losing MPG as it gets colder. There’s too many variables involved in my situation to accurately give you a loss or gain of MPG. I’m also using ethanol free gas out here.
