What a beautiful massage! I have to disagree, however with ONE point you made about not working around the medial and lateral malleolus. Although deep pressure would be contraindicated, stimulating these points assist mama's body during pregnancy. Massage is powerful, but it won't cause miscarriage in a healthy pregnancy!
@MassageTherapeutics9155 жыл бұрын
Nicolle Barrett I totally agree with you!!!! I just can’t say that. I’ve massaged so many pregnant women over the past 31yrs & it has never been an issue. I even worked on one that wanted me to do specific deep massage on the ankles because she was 10 days past her due date. It didn’t work😂. They induced her the following week. I hate to say this because I know I’m going to get criticized by someone out there however there’s a lot of paranoid people out there. They pick everything apart so I must be careful. Thank you for being brave to post this & disagreeing with me so professionally. I really appreciate that! I’m smart enough to know we all have different techniques & ways & there’s no need to be negative & attack anyone. I really appreciate this comment
@mistibear78215 жыл бұрын
Massage Therapeutics it's surprising to me that ANYONE would attack you with negative comments, but I guess it takes all kinds. Your work is so lovely, and I get hypnotized by your flow! Thank you for your kind response, and yes, I've had similar experiences with MT's who refuse to cover for me if a client of mine is pregnant. As you stated at the beginning, creating life is sacred, and one of the MOST important times to receive touch and body therapy. 28 years ago I actually had a male teacher tell me no woman should get massage while pregnant because , "It is too transformative"...🙄 I have had a lot of success bringing on delayed menses deeply working those ankle points, and on up the medial pressure points of the leg. Love your work!! Blessings💞
@MassageTherapeutics9155 жыл бұрын
Nicolle Barrett you’re pretty amazing yourself! It’s so heart warming to meet kindred spirits! You keep doing your thing because you’re making a difference in this world. My best to you & all that you do!

Lara Tan no I don’t have a video specifically about that. You need to make sure they are cleared from their doctor. Once you have a dr. Ok you can work on them. There is many different types of cervical or lumbar issues everything from stenosis, herniated or slipped disk etc so my suggestion is to take some medical massage training or NMT. This will help you out as to how to work these areas. For the most part if the injuries are a few yrs old you can work the soft tissue without extreme stretching. I’m sorry this is so vague however there’s so much information it’s difficult to teach it in 1 video or 1 conversation. I hope this helps you.

Other than the hands and feet, what else should I avoid? Would love to see a back view to see the techniques you're using. Thank you for this!!!

After the first trimester it’s ok to work it as long as the client is comfortable. If they are high risk I would definitely follow doctors orders. I’ve never had a problem working the QL on my pregnant ladies. Best of wishes for you.

Hi.. i have a question. Im a certified sports massage therapist. My wife is currently pregnant. - Based on what is taught here can i follow the steps and do it on her? - Any other points i should avoid? - can i use a pillow to create a wedge for her upper body if i have a standard flat massage table? - when she is on her side do i need to work both sides? The video shows one side only. Thankyou in advance for the vid! Its very interesting and informative! Thankz hope to hear from you soon!
@MassageTherapeutics9152 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on being pregnant! It’s the most exciting event anyone can go through! ❤️❤️❤️ Yes you can work on her. If you don’t have a wedge you can use pillows or just put her on her side. That might be easier (side lying). Yes you work both sides. The video only showed one side because it takes too long to rearrange the cameras! Just don’t use a lot of pressure around the points that are mentioned. Either way I’m sure she’s fine. As long as her Dr. Says it’s ok then you’re good…she’s very lucky to have such a caring & loving husband!!! Good luck and best of wishes to all 3 of you? How far along is she?

I am 36 weeks already and I’m about to have my prenatal massage in 4 days but I’m worried about the oils to be used as per my Obstetrician discouraged me to use some liniment oils, she didn’t say what oil though but should I push through? But I badly needed this one 🥵🤔
@MassageTherapeutics9155 жыл бұрын
Ellaine Ann Yeo one of the reasons might be if you have morning sickness however you’re too far along to still have that. Most massage therapist use relaxing oils like lavender so I really don’t see a concern. I don’t know your personal medical history however I Can honestly tell you that I’ve never had a client complain or have a negative side effect during a prenatal massage. Besides essential oils are used with a carrier oil. You can ask your therapist to use lotion if you will feel more comfortable with that. Enjoy your massage & best of luck with your delivery! You created life inside of you! That’s a miracle in itself!🤗

Your videos have been indispensable to me as a new therapist! I hear your voice in my head while giving massage, lol. Thank you for sharing your clarity, wisdom, expertise and humor. I was surprised to see Erica side-lying on the wedge; it doesn't seem comfortable and it puts her spine at an angle to her hips. I'm wondering if you would please elaborate on the benefit of choosing side-lying wedge support for upper body vs side-lying cervical support w a hugging pillow? Thank you so much
@MassageTherapeutics9153 жыл бұрын
Vivian I truly appreciate your compliment! It makes me happy to know you feel comfortable to ask questions. The main reason for using the wedge was to keep her inclined in the supine position. It wasn’t uncomfortable on the sideline position because she wasn’t that big however you brought up a good point! That it compromised her spinal column. I could have taken it off & done exactly what you described just having her hug a pillow. I always go by how the client feel more comfortable so either way is correct. If you don’t have to work too deep & client is comfortable the wedge on sideline is ok. Thanks for the question ❤️🤗

This video was great! However, there’s no risk in giving massage in the first trimester. No peer-reviewed literature suggests otherwise. LMTs need to start moving towards evidence-based practice instead of these old wives tales. Also there’s been no evidence of massage inducing labor. If it were true, LMTs would be making big money.
@MassageTherapeutics9152 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on the latter part. However for legal purposes we don’t advice massage in the first trimester because it’s during that period that most miscarriages occur. In case they do the massage therapist shouldn’t be blamed for it. There’s a lot of sue happy people out there. I am all for peer reviewed scientific evidence however placebo effect & sometimes the in grained beliefs are just as powerful. Thank you for taking the time to leave this comment! Congrats on your special training at the institute. I don’t know much about Minnesota statures. You might want to look up under MassageTherapyLicense.org. I am curious, what causes pain with that sciatic nerve during pregnancy? I had the same problem around the same point in my pregnancy. Is it the weight of the baby pushing down on everything in that area? It certainly gets painful towards the end.
@MassageTherapeutics9154 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly! All the internal organs have to move around too & make room for the baby. The baby gains weight in the last 8 weeks of gestation so it puts more weight on the pelvic girdle this causes more pain. Do you only have one child or have you had more? Now I’m curious to know if the same thing happened with other pregnancy lol. Stay healthy and strong

Hehe, about babies kicking or moving, my dad went along with my mom to one of the massage-events for pregnant women and they both already knew they were going to have a twin, and the instructor came over to my mom and dad and asked how they were doing and if they could feel the baby moving towards the hand from my dad on my mom's belly (which they definitely could, they jokingly said, at which my dad showed her). She quickly mentioned my dad being a natural talent in connecting to their baby because each time he had placed his hand somewhere, there was the baby moving towards it. They joked around for a bit but eventually mentioned being pregnant with twins, so there was quite a bit more chance of having a baby move up to the place where a hand was placed on her belly.

@@MassageTherapeutics915 I am one of the twins, yes, I have an identical twin brother (long story). Oh and yes, my parents are awesome :).

@@MassageTherapeutics915 Hehe, I am not a massage therapist actually, I am a photographer and camera operator. In reality I just really like learning stuff (even if any benefit from it might be extremely small to non-existing), and also watching someone get a massage really makes me feel relaxed as well (which is, in a way, interestingly weird). The thing that made me click on the video I responded to actually has everything to do with the extreme amounts of jealousy I have felt when seeing a pregnant woman when I was younger and didn't know yet why I felt like that. When I started hormones I experienced a couple of symptoms of pregnancy that made me respect pregnant women even more than I already did. And after talking with women who were very accepting of me becoming who I wanted to be and were very open in sharing their pregnancy experiences, I slowly becamse aware that it's actually much more of a miracle than I always have thought it to be, concerning the amount of things that can go wrong, but also the amount of women that need hormone supplements because their bodies are not producing some of the most important ones naturally.

I thought you need to have your client on their side from 22 weeks. Could you shed more light on this topic please. Is it ok because of the wedge?
@MassageTherapeutics9153 жыл бұрын
After 20 weeks it’s best for the client to sleep or receive a massage sideline or on a wedge. They only lay on the wedge while they are supine because then they can lay sideline for the back massage. After 20 weeks the weight of the Uterus can put pressure on the blood vessel the vena cava. It can leave the mom feeling nauseated & dizzy. So it’s best to prop her up on a wedge. This is what’s recommended. Thank you for your question
@LeslieRomero-l1b11 күн бұрын
Hi, just want to say thank you so much for all your videos. They’ve helped me a lot in my practice, but I just received a comment from a client that she wanted to know where I got my prenatal credentials from because a lot of research shows it’s not OK to lay on your back even with a wedge pillow, but I’ve always done them that way and then I see that you show in your video that you have your client laying that way for part of the time which I do too. I have them turn onto one side or the other, so just wondering if could share a little more information on that for me so that I could share it with my manager and the client thank you so much.

Midwives usually recommend pregnant women past 28 weeks not to lie on their back? Is it ok for a massage that she’s lying on her back?
@MassageTherapeutics9154 жыл бұрын
Mahima Begun if she’s laying on a wedge to take the pressure off the artery she can lay there about 20 min. When their hips hurt too much they don’t want to lay on their side the whole time. As you can see she’s really propped up high on the supine position. If you have any questions you can always have the mommy ask her doctor. If they are high risk then it’s best not to lay them supine.

Very informative video. However, I would place a bolster beneath her knees for extra support when she is on her back. I massage towards the heart when I am doing the legs and also do the check for blood clot on each leg before I massage her legs. If she feels pain when I do the check then I would not massage her legs. Loy, LMT
@MassageTherapeutics9155 жыл бұрын
Lois Bouyer the reason I didn’t have a bolster behind her knees is because I forgot it! We were filming at a new location & I forgot to bring it. Yes it’s a good idea to check the legs & look for signs of blood clots which are pain, redness & hot area. Otherwise it’s ok if she’s healthy it’s probably just from the weight of the baby.
