Just checked out the Tops Armageddon knife on Amazon. It's very interesting! I also realized that I have almost no Tops knives in my collection and that is a travesty! I will have to correct that when my funds open up again. Also I would love to see what you think about Browning Crowell / Barker Competition Knife. I really like mine but have to warn that it is not one I would want to chop with if I was not wearing a lanyard!

I always use metal oxide sandpaper when I do satin or "near" mirror finishes on my knives. Notice where I said "my knives"! I will teach my friends how to do it for themselves and might even gift them with their first batch of sandpapers but I'll be damned if I starting doing it all the time for other people. Also with sharpening re-curve blades I've had a ton of good luck for fairly cheap options with 2 systems. I have a Spyderco Sharpmaker that I've bolted to my workbench and I've also gotten the optional diamond rods for it. Also Lansky has recently released rounded faced stones for their system.

I figured this was probably the most recent video where this question would be somewhat relevant, so here we go. I'm wondering if you've ever seen anyone sharpen a kukri design on a work sharp. I've just recently gotten an Aranyik Enep, and I'm getting a work sharp soon. Would I be able to use it on the kukri-esque enep, or would I only be able to use it on other blades?

Regarding your Amazon store. I'm a Prime Member, and I purchase Prime eligible items whenever I can. After all, it's stuff to beat 2 day free shipping. personally from what I'm researching, I would recommend the Tops Knives Steel Eagle over this. This is a cool looking knife but the top saw part is rather pointless and another video pointed out how you could potentially injure yourself since it is closer to the handle. Why not just carry a folding saw that would just do a better job? But this is just my preference and opinion. Anyway still an awesome knife.

Only my swords cost more then 100 bucks.i think my most costly knife is around 75 bucks. I think I have about more knives sense I made a video of most of my knives. I didn't make a second video to show them. Don't seem like anybody wants to watch a video about them. Im just collecting them because I like knives, no real purpose for so many. Maybe the y will be worth more in 50 years. I have not carried a knife on me for a bit, but have a small baton and my hand gun hiding on me. I do have many to choose from, I like a solid blade most, because I don't trust a lock blade. I have very few lock blades.

The problem with Tops is that they over do thing! They make them too tactical looking! What a shame as they are the only American knife company with good quality control! That recurve has no business being on that blade! They ruined the design! This knife needs a straight edge with saber grind like Becky! I actually gave mine away! I hated it because of that dumb recurve! Great video as always! Thanks Chris
@michaelt3172
@michaelt3172 9 жыл бұрын
If u want a straight edge get a steel eagle 111a or condor alert from tops. The recurve makes it better for chopping and helps batoning. The recurve gives it great bite.

I now assume that you are being payed by TOPS knives? I really was a fan of yours until lately. It just seems like you have sold out like all the other channels that gain any kind of following. I really do like your channel. Not trying to hate on you I'm just voicing my opinion. If I was in your position I would probably do the same thing LOL.
@preparedmind101
@preparedmind101 10 жыл бұрын
Why is it if you are a fan of something you have to of sold out? I've gotten three knives total lifetime from TOPS for review. Everything else I buy with my own money and trade for. I'm looking for a lot more TOPS knives too. I always fully disclose if I got something from a company. I have to recommend stuff people will actually like and is a good tool for them. I've only had THREE complaints since doing this where someone didn't like a knife I recommended. I WISH companies paid me. It's tight when your only source of income is ad revenue and Amazon earnings. Even if someone would offer me money, I wouldn't take it unless it's something I would have recommended anyway. The only companies that NEED to pay for recommendations are companies that make shit products. And do don't see any of those here. Do you REALLY believe TOPS needs ME to sell knives? Think it through. People that own the stuff I'm big one (TOPS, Beckers, Thrunites, Fenix, Etc) understand my enthusiasm because they know how good the stuff is. Now if I has jumping up and down about some Bear Grylls products....THAT would be cause for suspicion.
@preparedmind101
@preparedmind101 10 жыл бұрын
I'm talking about TOPS a lot because it's my new favorite knife company. EVERYONE knows I like the BK7 and BK9. But you can't talk about two knives forever. People need options. I had that BOB for almost 9 months before it really grew on me. Then the MSK and Scandi Trekker came along and I was hooked. I have a TOPS wish list about 15 knives deep right now. I was about to get a couple Survive! Knives, but after talking to them they are so swamped with demand they don't need more hype, they need less. If I threw my channel behind them the wait would get get worse. It takes a while to make the rounds through different companies when most of the knives you buy yourself. The only ones I can get for free pretty much whenever I want is Schrade, and I think I've shown myself to be VERY even handed in reviewing those. But they donate a lot of knives to the youtube community and do giveaways. They don't pay anyone...at least that I am aware of.
@sackett68
@sackett68 10 жыл бұрын
PREPAREDMIND101 I really didn't mean to come across as a hater. It just seems that every time I find a channel that I really like and it starts to grow, the next thing you know all they start doing is promoting a certain brand of whatever. I think you would agree with me that it happens quite often in the KZbin community. I do apoligize for any offence that I may have caused.
@preparedmind101
@preparedmind101 10 жыл бұрын
sackett68 is just a new brand to me that I like. I used to not care for them because most looked really big, blocky, and expensive. When they started making the stuff with the "Scandi-vex" grind and I actually got them in hand, I got excited about them. I've been using the same Beckers for years and you don't see much variety. That, plus meeting them at SHOT, seeing their factory and how hands-on it is and getting to actually handle the knives at SHOT...I got hooked. I have a great deal of faith in that brand. Likewise, I started getting free Schrades to review, and I had zero faith in them. But most surprisingly performed great. The few items I broke, they immediately made factory changes to fix it... based on ONE GUY breaking something and giving feedback. That got my respect. They don't pay me either (no company does), but I'm their first in line guy for reviews. They took my feedback and several other reviewer feedback to come up with the three awesome knives coming next year (all 1095 with key features we asked for). Bottom line is, the bigger you get the more hands on time becomes possible and the more direct contact you have with the companies. I can only think of two channels I strongly suspect get paid to say something is great (when I know it isn't). Can't prove it and don't care to find out.

PREPAREDMIND101 I read your response to this question and it re-instilled my faith a bit in your channel. Different responder btw. Have you given any thought to the 'prepared"mind" aspect/concept of your channel compared to the prepared 'gear' aspect? Because you seem to just review 'gear' now. And a very select set of gear too. One of the best moments for me personally in your channels recent history was when you temporarily ignored your 'gear addiction' and discussed in all seriousness the concept of preps for chem/meds/addictions. You spoke of Trammadol which is a serious painkiller, with side effects, also antidepressants, booze, hard drugs etc. Basically a serious topic re: prepping that I have heard NO-ONE talking about but you Chris. No-one else I have encountered on you tube has had the guts to admit addictions and factor them into the reality of preparedness. I sense ZGB who momentarily hosted you are seeking a new direction too and the KZbin modality is obviously changing....so many competitions, view seeks etc. Imagine people like you combined with zgb and andy and others could somehow educate beyond 'here is the latest and best new big knife to buy...spend money on...distract you from the last big knife you bought....on my recommendation.... And convert that into REAL mental preparedness...I.e..prepared MIND. You read the secret. I read 'a course in miracles' twenty five years ago. Someone manifested some rice by being hungry enough 3000 years ago.
