G'day Chris, Enjoying this series. Some outstanding blades. A neighbour loaned me his Condor Bush Parang and cripes does that thing chop! An excellent budget chopper. Thanks to you I had some spare Wilson comfort grip spare so I covered the handle for my neighbour and ran it through my WorkSharp. He's really chuffed, says it feels like a new machete altogether!

Is it just me, or does 'Pricilla' look like it should've been named 'Orcrist'? I don't know; maybe it's a nerd thing. BTW, I'd love to see them make 'Pricilla' out of 1070 or 1075!

Taken from Google, its looks like: "Orcrist" (also called the goblin cleaver) was the weapon acquired by the Dwarf Lord Thorin Oakenshield from the Trolls' lair in The Hobbit. The Orcs (Goblins) called it Biter. The Elves of Gondolin had named it Orcrist and it had killed hundreds of Orcs in its time.

You should review some knives made by xtreemgear, you can find them all on Amazon, the prices are very low and the materials are great, along with fit and finish, mostly a2, d2, and Damascus steel, they all have awesome mic arts handles and come with nice pouch leather sheaths. They are technically custom knives, but I love mine, I'd love to see some on your channel, I love your channel, keep up what you are doing, take care

I like that schrade blade and can't wait for it. Tge biggest issue is that people see all the testing done with blades now adays and think they need to use their blades the same way. The testing videos are just that tezt videos. Use the blade as it should be used and it will be fine. Good video Chris

If 3CRMOV13 is the Chinese equivalent of 440c, I would not hesitate to use it in heavy applications, as long as the heat treat is right on. 440c is an EXCELLENT, tough steel and as you see here. Clearly the Chicom version Schrade is using is also EXCELLENT. So, as always the arm chair steel experts get it wrong. I guess that is what happens when you listen to others instead of going out and getting first hand experience with the product.
@preparedmind101
@preparedmind101 7 жыл бұрын
+Steven “Shooter11b” Szabo Heat treat matters! That blade is thick enough to be strong and it has flex, as I demonstrated. Problem is, they also make a few lower end machetes that are thin 3cr that clearly are too brittle. Every once in a while, an end user posts a video to KZbin breaking one. I wish Schrade would not even bother making that stuff. I really like it in the SCAXES because the geometry allows me to get it sharp enough to split the hairs on a mosquitos ass with the Worksharp. They won't hold that edge forever, but I'm not living in the wilderness for a month either. In real world use, if they stay sharp through a weekend, I'm happy. I clean up all my tools before putting them away anyway.
@Shooter11B
@Shooter11B 7 жыл бұрын
PREPAREDMIND101 Exactly! Well stated Chris. My gripe with Chinese stainless steel has always been that it was actually too soft as opposed to brittle. I would assume that the really cheap stuff is not 3cr, most like a version of "surgical stainless steel". I have purchased a few Chinese made machete like objects of "stainless steel" just to beat them up and see how they performed and literally all of them end up with heavily dented and warped edges/wavy edges with the occasional large chunk missing from the edge. They seem to work OK in softer woods but as soon as you hit a knot or get some lateral movement on a strike, the edge goes. So, seeing how Schrade prepares their 3cr, in this particular machete, people really should not denigrate the tool for the steel choice as it is CLEARLY tough and durable. As you said, I guess they could make it in M4 and sell it to the five people who could afford it! LOL.

Oh yeah! Chopocalypse and NFL Sunday football, all on the same day...what could be better! By the way...where the heck are Will, Jessie, and the other nice lady whose name escapes me at the moment? How in the world could they ditch you, and miss Chopocalypse!?? By the way, did I miss it, as it seems that you are not mentioning what type of blade grinds are found on each blade. E,G, Convex, Scandi, Hollow, Flat, Scandi-Vex, etc. I love choppers, but it is amazing that those Silky "Ninja" saws you own would cut through those very large logs in less than half the time, with the a fraction of the calorie expenditure. However, the Schrade Priscilla seems to make really quick work of the smaller limbs, a do the other blades! Well at least you won't have to go to the gym this week. Anyway...thanks... the videos and the time involved in making them are greatly appreciated!

@Luso308
@Luso308 7 жыл бұрын
Indeed it would not make any sense in your video. My comment is due to the visible effort applied to achieve a goal. In that regard, I don´t see how any of your choppers would be efficient in cutting anything above, say 50mm 2"? And if you intend to chop that stuff wouldn´t a BK9 more than enough? Would a BK7 or a Falkniven A1 be enough for that? In my experience I can delimb 1 1/2" limbs with a Cold Steel Bushman. My question is not regarding your video or your choice of choppers but the relative value of that tool, judging from personal experience and from your own effort (you loose your breath too quickly). In my opinion the kind of choppers you have are a niche tool that I fail to fathom. Since you have a wonderful blade arsenal, you probably could do a efectiveness video regarding weight tool, versatility and ease of use. "How long and how heavy must be the blade to achieve a realistic goal?". But if your goal is just to have fun, by all means, go and chop to your heart´s content.

I currently own (and really like) the SCHKM1, which I recall you having mixed feelings about until you were able to really dial in the edge. Having used both, would it be fair to say that the 'Pricilla' is a significantly better chopper over the SCHKM1 or do they behave much differently from each other? Considering the price point, I am most likely going to get one as soon as they come out, but just curious on your opinion between the two of them.
