Appreciate your attention to detail in marking & cutting the barrels. A circular saw seems best to me. Will be interested to watch how you build and maintain your aquaponic system.

He addressed picking the right barrel and how to cut them - thats literally all the prep that's needed. I use these for regular backyard gardening and honestly I used my jigsaw for two barrels before switching to my circular saw which is much easier.
@TigerLilyGzzTLRoars4 жыл бұрын
Terrific vic. Was using a jigsaw but this looks much more efficient, plus, the measurement style is phenomenal.

Hey thanks for making this video. Last night I hauled 8 of these blue barrels home, found a guy on craigslist that was selling them for $10 each! They previously had vinegar stored in them. We are going to start a raised bed garden with them. Was wondering how exactly I was going to cut them in half, I like your method, I'm going to do my barrels this way. Great video!! Thank you so much!!! I am subscribed! ❤️

Did you ever make an exterior bell siphon yet or how did you use the holes?
@AbsoluteAppealTampa8 жыл бұрын
Nice video, I have a nice setup here in my backyard too. Vegetables grown in a Aquaponics setup taste so much better and safer with no harsh pesticides and other chemicals. However don't use barrels that contained cleaners or soaps. There are several legitimate, registered companies selling drums and totes that ONLY held food products. I buy mine from Southern Container Corp. of FL. Not far from Tampa.

5:32 a piece of string..wire etc or whatever would be more simple and versatile to reuse. ..tape even more common and less resource.
@JamesSavage-l4p7 ай бұрын
Would this work as a strawberry planters? Thanks.
@ridingvenus7 ай бұрын
@@JamesSavage-l4p I think so but Id fill all but 4-6 inches on top with good soil….the remaining bottom Id fill with your choice of fill..rock..wood chips..branches ..styrofoam popcorn or regular styrofoam or whatever combination of those mentioned and/or similar fill. Me I’d look to rocks especially on the bottom to help raise the water level…then a 3-4 inch layer of wood..chips..branches, just be ok the top layer of soil. The rocks would act as a way to raise the water level without absorbing it much..and the wood would work as a wick helping to minimize as much water as if only rocks.

Been watching your channel for a while, from Michigan as well. Built a hydroponics system already and time for a flood and drain aquaponics system. Are you going to do a radial filter on the new system or stick with your swirl filter? Thinking since I have enough room for both, I would have dual filtration, is there any downside to that? Thanks for all the Information. been quite informative over the years.
@SSLFamilyDad9 жыл бұрын
+matthew wilds Thanks man, I am going to stick with the swirl filter I have now however I might add a sort of mineralization tank where I can use an air stone to compost the waste from the filter down a bit for fertilizer. Videos will be coming soon I am just so behind with the holidays!
