I have bad anxiety but let me tell you it was one of the most relaxing medical experiences I've ever had. You get an IV, they ask you a few questions, they put you to sleep, and you wake up as if only a few seconds had passed! I realized afterwards that the worst part about the whole thing was by far my anxiety beforehand. With that said, don't worry, you'll be fine :)

@@vKashiv I just had mine yesterday, it really was not that bad. I know that logic doesn't always help with anxiety (that's the case for me anyway) but you'll be fine! And going through this will help you grow as a person. I believe in you.

@@vKashiv the same for me, turns out I have a Hiatal Hernia. There's not really a treatment for it but the can give me some medicine to relieve the pain. Nothing I've tried so far for acid reflux has really worked which is why I had the endoscopy done. They did take a sample tissue so I'm hoping they'll be able to prescribe something that's a bit more helpful.

people, i suffer from anxiety. and i had to get an upper endoscopy done, today 6-10-11. let me tell you that their is nothing to be afraid of. i was giving an iv to start the process, after about 15 minutes i was taken into the endoscopy room . they tell you to lay on your side, that is all i remember. woke up in the recovery room feeling fine. no pain at all. guess what that f***ng anxiety went away. i am posting this for people that need to get this done. only the strong will survive!

I'm 14 and I've had this done so many times! The first time I got it was when I was 5 so if I could do it when I was 5 anyone can do it :) nobody should worry bout it they give you an iv and the drugs knock you out completely then u wake up when its done. I've had extremely severe acid reflux, delayed stomach emptying,gastritis, and colitis since I was born so this little procedure is nothing. Getting one tomorrow w/partial colonoscopy. Hoping to get surgery soon to fix my mess of problems :)

@@qwertyuiop6582 my husband had it almost done. He would not cooperate. They did not give him anything to relax the throat do they in Russia? Years ago my Aunt held the bowl to catch the blood when her tonsils were removed.

Just had this. Was nervous before that day but I felt nothing after the sedative and dont remember anything. Seems like it took 3 seconds and I opened my eyes and they said they were all done. Not sore at all. Easier than the lower GI since the only prep to do is not eating that day and dont drink for 4 hours before. So really, do not worry too much.

Thank you for this, I am glad I came across your video Dr. Cooper. I’m due this week to get this procedure done. My anxiety & nerves are super high due to going to a place where I was mistreated before to have this procedure done. I love my outpatient doctors but not so much at the hospital where this procedure will take place. I'm trying to get my anxiety and nerves in check before the procedure in a couple of days. I have severe anxiety and my panic attacks stem from my phobia of vomiting, emetophobia, and I will have an endoscopy, upper GI tomorrow. I try to calm myself, and the only thing that worked so far has been reading these comments. Also, I want be healthy again so bad that I can ignore my fear. I'll update tomorrow after the procedure! Update! It was a quick nap, no pain, no irritation or anything. It took less than an hour for me to get in the room, get ready with oxygen or smt, sleep and then wake up. I felt nothing! No need to worry guys. If I could do it, trust me, you can.

i have severe anxiety from emetophobia too. i should've gotten this procedure done like a decade ago but i keep postponing it because of the fear. i just can't picture having something that big in my throat without starting to feel extremely anxious and even nauseous. reading your comments helped me a bit though, im glad it went well for you♡.

I just had a gastrointestinal and at the same time, upper gi, I was given meds in my arm, and before I knew it, the procedure was finished. Now, for 2 days after, I was so sick. Like a tiredness and felt out of it. So I rested for 2 days.

I have to get this done soon I’ve only been out under once and it was for my wisdom teeth and it was bad they gave me the sedative and it hurt when they put the needle in so I started crying and the nurse told me to calm down cause my heart rate was too high and then all the sudden the world went black and I woke up I really hope that doesn’t happen again it was super scary

Just had it done woke with a swollen sore lip from the opening holder they put in my mouth white hard plastic. Honestly I think it may have been put in backwards. It didn't fit my lip and pushed lip against tooth they should have at least put a gauze between lip and teeth.

Hi. 1 got my endoscopy done 2 months back with biospy sample. I felt chest pain and stomach pain for 2 days and then it went away. After a week, while having dinner I started getting cramps like I have eaten something uncooked. Since then it hasn't gone away. It's been 7 weeks. GP is clueless and has put me on paracetamol and buscopan. Pain comes and goes after every few seconds. Sometimes I feel like pressure builds up in my stomach and goes away. Sometimes a strange pain that comes and goes in wave. Has anyone had this problem after the scope? Any thoughts? I take 40mg omeprazole daily from last 4 months.

@@snxbdt don’t worry it’s painless :) they didn’t find anything in my endoscopy but turns out most cases of bloating are due to constipation or lack of enzymes. I would do a stool test if I were you instead. See how many enzymes your pancreas makes and then start taking pancreatin if necessary. I had chronic unexplained bloating and still working through it

I had it without drugs, awake, it's pretty rough, first time I puked while the pipe was in my throat, it was bad... Second time was easier but the gag reflex is still there, the wire looks thin but you can feel it in your throat and in your stomach too, touching walls. The worst part is when they insert it, afraid of what you will feel, but when they do go in, you just wait and pray for it to be over soon, and when it's done there is a relief.

ha they gave me something called "happy juice" that made me forget everything. Gosh, it tasted gross! Btw, they do put you asleep. they used an IV to put me asleep. then the next thing you know, your in a bed at the hospital with your parents next to you. this surgery is no big deal. the worst that happens is tha you get a weird sore throat for a couple days, its not like a sick sore throught, but is just really uncomftorable. (The doctor gave me ice cream after i recovered... YUM!)

She probably wasn't allowed it due to recreational drug use. If you take certain drugs they cannot sedate you, especially if you have other health issues. So yes it's very possible.
