Were currently bout to stay in it just to well prepare. Because I'm a prepper not the sense of stockpiles of crap but more on experience so we know what to expect especially my children! I highly recommend bulghur for folks who cant cook as a rice substitute. But must be finely ground bulghur, not coarse one for pilafs. Bulghur is cooked and cracked wheat. You store it just like rice. Important point here for tough times is, Fine bulghur is ready to eat when you pour hot water on it and wait a few minutes. Coarse one needs to be cooked like rice. So keep some in your pack, and when you find hot water, your carbonhydrate/grain base is ready to eat. Add whatever you like, wheter tomatoes etc salad material(raw) and/or spices, and/or tomatoe or pepper paste, and preferably olive oil but any oil would do, to add calories. Its a preferred bachelor/uni student staple, very easy to store and use.

Fellow vet here - Vietnam Era pension, if disabled at all doesn't need to be service connected. We went to STATE veterans counselor, not the ones employed by VA. Check online, other groups. I was injured on active duty 70s, told on outprocessing don't even apply. They'll typically deny your case multiple times; when we talk most of us persisted for years. I finally applied when injury recurred so much couldn't drive or do job. From 2004-2013 took painful outmoded tests out of town, filled forms, took hold of temper & despair. We were both vets, he got on Vietnam Era Pension first. It's limited, doesn't let you earn. We got through all that, try, call, talk to vets groups.

To help a very close family member of mine that's homeless. In a motel now that's on the verge of being evicted. I found a small older hotel for $325. a month. Yes I said $325. a month and I'm pretty sure that includes water, heat and electricity. I better double-check on that but I'm pretty sure it includes heat water and electricity. The guy doesn't have a problem renting these rooms and even said to call him back in August. To see if he had one available then. He had two on a waiting list but sometimes people don't wait and need something right away. And then I found a very nice motel for about $1,600 a month and it's all brand new very nice looking. And this was the only motel I found that was nice all the others were literally used abused dirty and look like drug houses. Since my family member barely has saved any money in their lifetime and they're older. And the family member literally lives hand to mouth. Guess what motel they wanted to take? You guessed it the expensive nice new motel. I wanted the family member to save money so they could possibly get a car again. I really wanted the family member to go to the homeless shelter where they could save $30,000 a year. Because at the homeless shelter it doesn't cost anything. And I told the family member in one year you can save $30,000. In two years you can save $60,000. In 3 years you can save $90,000 and 4 years you can save 120,000 in five years you could save 150,000 Then they could buy a house and pay for it with cash. But unfortunately thinking about it the family member wouldn't pay the taxes at the end of the year. Because this is the mentality of the family member they literally cannot save a dime. But this is how I think. I always have its just natural and survival skills for me. but it's the opposite for my family member. They don't even have a car. They have a driver's license but since they had about two or three accidents on high risk insurance. And the price of another car they don't have the money for. And they may not have the money for car insurance after they see this last big accident that put two people in the hospital and one vehicle that was a total loss. And the family member gets a monthly check a month for $2,800 a month for just their self. And they live in a motel with bills they ran up. This is alot of money but the family member has chosen to live out of their means all their life. That is why they have two evictions, credit shot, no references, no friends because they call so much drama and of course no money saved. Luckily the family member doesn't drink or do any drugs of any type. Put this family member literally has more baggage - drama than Delta!!! My family member was making fun of one lady in the motel for not having any teeth and being homeless. But I told my family member your homeless I didn't want to tell my family member they didn't have any teeth either. My family member literally drives everyone away and has no friends. There's some people that get a few hundred dollars a month to live on. I'm hoping this family member can grow up one day. But I just don't think they can for them it's not too many years left! I love the family member. But she truly has some serious problems. She basically has never grown up and thinks it's everyone else's fault.

Thank you Friar Tuck for this very informative session on how to prepare being homeless if it is unavoidable. You are very optimistic in your approach. I am building a prototype shelter with a recumbent trike to give the homeless a roof with mobility. It is better than tents when sweeps come around. Allows people to keep their dignity, belongings and their pets plus their sanity. Will be showing it in the fall. It's not a building but it is a better transition option than doing nothing.

My plan is to become an over the road truck driver. I'm a local class A driver, but if I smell shit anywhere near the fan I'm going to live in a semi. There's a mail forwarding service called escapees that can give you proof of address that you need to begin the process of establishing domicile in Florida, Texas, or South Dakota where you can get your license transferred to then live in a no income tax state. I imagine a service like this would be useful for a homeless person to simply hold their mail and perhaps donate plasma since BioLife has every homeless shelter listed as an unacceptable address. And also when applying for a job it might be advantageous to not list a shelter.

I think a mindset is important .. do we see ourselves as victims of a socioeconomic system that failed us or are we looking for a life more suitable to our needs .. the type of living terminology “ home bum “ , “ panhandler “ , “ traveller “ . Is this new life an adventure or a cruel joke . Not everybody wants to be encumbered with a life of 9 - 5 to pay for a couch , tv & a gym membership . Live free & comfortably , simplicity is the key ✌️🙏🕊️

Do you or have you set up a resources database in electronic or paper of the various cities you go to? In case you go back, or ahead of time from research before picking a city? For the economy, even if something is made in China, it is most often brought into Canada from a US company. To buy something that costs $100 in the US costs $150 CND, $100 from the UK would cost $200; and there is no sign of improvement in the near to mid future. We have lots of tent cities in Canada (that is many per each city). Each municipal government bounces around from allowing it, to banning it, only to allow it in another location. This all happens with very little notice. You are so correct on weight, I am looking into ultralight camping gear, but the homeless doesn't have much fancy gear resource after their fancy stuff wears out or gets stolen. Keep what you can on your body in case your pack is taken, but also learn to live with less by using as much multi-purpose gear as you can.

First aid kits are very important. We get homeless with cellulitis when it starts with a simple scratch. Then they are in the hospital for weeks. Some have a very hard time with that. Programs have good and bad to them. It has made shelters less available as they get involved in programs and now the homeless have to sign contracts and stay for their services... and there's no walk in shelters because they get more money for programs. Turns it into a business.

In South Africa, the government created what is called safe zones. An example of a safe zone is a place under the freeway. There are rules on entering and exiting the zone. I don't know if you have watched Star Trek. In 1994, there was a two-parter episode, "Past Things", on Star Trek: Deep Space 9. It imagined a world where the federal government created Sanctuary Districts to house the homeless. All of the homeless - the working poor, the mentally ill, the veterans, etc. I see this is where we are heading. I live in California. My governor has issued an executive order for all of California to sweep the homeless. Communities which do not comply could face financial penalties. The problem is that the government is slashing safety net programs budgets and there aren't enough shelters for everyone. So, where are the homeless going to go?

It’s sad when you can have a job and be homeless. I have a feeling that, in the US, there will be 2 classes of people: those that pay “taxes” and those that don’t. I make this distinction because I don’t think “homeless” will be a thing much longer. Those that don’t pay taxes, if numbers keep growing, will end up with some very talented people. These people will work together with others in a similar situation to build small off grid communities that are self governing. Those that “pay taxes” will be part of one of the corporations that run the government (we will drop the charade soon; it’s inefficient). One group will be happy; the other will be incredibly stressed. Which is which depends a lot on if it’s worth the cost to pester non tax payers.

Like in Texas, your car cannot be worth more than $15,000 I also know on my report ing documents that I have to notify them of any change in my income or address within 15 days. So I guess if you move addresses to another state, you'd have to apply for food stamps in that state. Cuz let's say I went to the state that gave out a lot of food stamps, I wouldn't be able to just come back here to Texas where I don't get as much and use them.

@@BigEvan96 there is only one founding father of this country and that is Thomas Payne. Read common sense and you’ll understand the articles of confederation. A bunch of monarch who had a dream of global dominance came together and formed the constitution with all the ideology behind it.

If you bring in 2200 a month, have you ever thought about relocating to a cheaper area? If you're willing to leave wherever your at, there are plenty of very low cost places to live throughout the country. You can find 2 and 3 bedroom houses to rent for 5 to 6 hundred a month. You just have to do your research and plan it out. Also the places that are this cheap tend to have a very low cost of living overall. If you decided to take this approach, all three of you could live much more comfortably and have some stability. But you've got to be willing to make some changes and really want it! I hope this maybe gets you thinking that there is options, and improvement in quality of life is achievable. Take care of yourself and your people, you can do it!
