Having Dejavu after Hurricane Ida in 2021, but this time I am taking more precautions, because as was evidenced in this video, just because we aren't in a flood zone doesn't mean we aren't subject to flooding.

Sorry Rob, that entire area is a flood zone--and for a reason. In fact, it's a "Special Flood Hazard Area". It's also surrounded by regulatory floodways--Overpeck Creek and Forest Ave. Zero surprise here and it's not going to get any better as time goes on.

This is true. We run multi million dollar properties for clients and I have to convince them to let me hire people to clear drains, before a big rain storm because it will 1000% cause flooding. Everyone except one of my clients did it last year, and guess who was calling me to send plumbers in the middle of a storm. Rob is definitely smoking something if he thinks being next to a creek doesn’t put him in a flood zone. I always assume flood zone if I’m near a creek or body of water

LOL, yep... during Sandy I had my car 3 cinder blocks high (24"). With a direct hit to my barrier island, the water came down my street and stopped 5 inches into my driveway..., I had about a 33~34 inch vertical cushion... total overkill, but you don't know what to expect. Sandy pushed nearly the maximum water in for our circumstances, so I now know that my driveway is probably good for about a 1000-year storm. Oh, BTW, cinder blocks can be iffy, strength-wise. Put them so the holes are top and bottom, not on the sides... stronger that way... just put a 2x8x16 on top. And always have a block of 6x6 on hand to use on the jack pad as an extension. Be careful... be as safe as you can.

I'm on the west coast of south Florida. We didn't prepare like we would for a major hurricane. With that said Debby brought a lot of rain. My woodshop flooded and we are located 33ft about sea level. The property is a non-evacuation zone even though we are less than a couple miles from the beach. The rain came down so hard for so long that the property just could not drain the water fast enough. I spent part of the night with a wet vac sucking up the water in the shop. No damage was caused but sure did create a lot of work. Always gotta be prepared.

they cause is not from the creek, its from solid roofs and asphlat roads, if the roofs were all covered in grass, it would be able to absorb and store the water while it rains hard, then slowly release the water over the next coupe days, keeping spaces and working with forests in more places, would reduce alot of these issues

Here in Prague, to protect the Old Town from the spring flooding that happens occasionally, they have aluminium tracks permanently around buildings/ building entrances in the pavement. When a water surge is predicted, the system is one of screw in posts ( over differing heights, some to about 20 feet high ) every 6 feet or so, and in between they slot aluminium planks that fit in such a way that water can get under nor through them. If water can only get into your warehouse through the doors ( ie not under the walls ), then this system might be a very cost effective method to protect the cars if the water only ever gets to a level of 2 or 3 feet inside the warehouse. And when not in use, the posts and planks are relatively lightweight to store. I see Stormguard has "Flood Fencing" that might be along the same idea

go take the kei truck to home depot and fill it with 8' 2x4s. make ramps and platforms out of them, and drive the cars up on them under the lifts. some deck screws to help hold everything together as you stack them. I'd offer you space at my place to drop a couple off but I'm not exactly that close (07922).

I lived in Englewood by the Shop Rite in that apartment building. The creek runs right underneath the building. The garage fills up with water all the time from the creek. The water actually comes up from the drains in the garage. I lost a car because of that. Englewood is such a mess

Call me crazy, but wouldn't it be better to have a flood mitigation plan to stop the water getting into the warehouse? It seems your weak point is that roller door ramp, you neec a plan to block that area when the flood risk is high such as a couple of rows of sandbags, just keep them stored inside until needed.

Putting it on jack stands etc is like using a candle for a headlight. Why not just move them to a multi storey parking garage? Put them way up on the 4-5th floor. If your garage is prone to flooding, a couple inches of lift ain’t gonna do much.

Just get mf bricks or metal that's thick and 5-10in thickness. Put ramps in front of these cement bricks and go the next car. You set up all 4 wheels for each car on the ground. Done. Or, create perm ramps at least a under the lifts, drive up every time on them when parking. Ones on ground, ramp and drive onto bricks. Sheesh
