Hey man, thanks for the insight. You mentioned not to rely on the wisdom of reddit, but I cannot help but feel some concern based on all the negative reviews, like those saying to go to Ivey or queens commerce instead. Are all these people wrong? It would be great to get your opinion, thanks.

Hey BLT! I totally understand your concern, as I also encountered a lot of those reviews before joining Rotman. What I can say is that many of those opinions are not well founded and so I suggest you look at them objectively and with skepticism. Looking back, I had an excellent experience at Rotman and I wouldn't have picked a different program. However, what is best for me might not be the best for you. I recommend you doing as much research as you can between the different programs in order to pick the one that you relate the most with. I hope this helps!

For investment banking in specific, is Ivey better than Rotman because of its placements? Would you have an idea? Moreover, I have heard that Rotman students mostly indulge in learning concepts from textbooks, as opposed to the more "fun" case-study method at Ivey... How did that work for you?

Hi Virat, I personally know many Rotman Commerce students that have landed investment banking internships over the past few years. Such number has definitely been increasing YoY too. From my understanding, Ivey places more investment banking interns in the US compared to Canada. To answer your second question, while there are some more theoretical classes at Rotman than others, I have personally taken several courses with very interesting case practices. These include classes on negotiation strategies, social intelligence, marketing, etc. It all comes down to the Rotman electives that interest you.

Hi Jack, welcome to Rotman! I took PRT420 (academic portuguese) and GGR124 (cities and urban life) as electives in my first year. I also took SPA100 (intro to spanish) in my second year. They were mainly language courses, which I suggest you take if there are any languages that you are interested in taking and to also meet your breadth requirements.

hey, do the business courses there consist of a lot of high level mathematics?

The most common first-year math course that is taken at Rotman Commerce is MAT133, but if you want to take more advanced math courses you can do MAT135/136 or MAT137. After first year there aren't any further required math courses.

Yes, Rotman was my 1st choice! AFM is also a very strong program but I didn't end up applying there.

The pass rate for 1st year Rotman Commerce students is very high; shouldn't be too difficult with consistent studying.

Which FLC do you recommend for incoming rotman students?

Hey Juliana! The FLC program actually changed for the incoming class of 2024. You will be automatically enrolled in your FLC once course enrollment starts. Your FLC session is determined by your college and faculty: for example, if you're in Rotman and have a membership to Woodsworth, then you're going to be in a Rotman Commerce FLC at Woodsworth College (so you'll be paired with other students in the same position as you).
