Very interesting - I live among many lakes, but I'm a farmer/horse person....and don't go sit by them or own a boat. Learning about a fishery is very nice. And so are Labs! I don't have a Lab at the moment, because if a dog that large gets hurt, I can't get them in my truck anymore. Border collies and Aussies now at my age, LOL! Life would be not good at all without horses, dogs, cats, and my chickens. (The beef and pork we raise are in the freezer!)

I really enjoyed this latest installment Ant. An Earth Science teacher I know is connected to our Dep't of Natural Resources here in Minnesota and every year, thanks to a grant, his huge aquarium is stocked with hmmm, not the alevins but a little older trout younguns, and the kids get to monitor and manage the trout. The also get to take part in releasing the trout along with a DNR staff person. I am fascinated by the stocking of the pond, the following questions do not require an answer Ant, you are way to busy, but I wonder how the experts calculate how many fish a body of water can hold and how do they know when restocking is needed? I have more questions. Actually I am going to go to our DNR site and see what I can learn. thanks Ant for giving me a rabbit hole to go down. Cheers from Minnesota Ant - "Land of 10,000 Lakes" thanks to the last ice age and retreating ice...lots of fish, and fisher-folks! All the best! Fern in Minnesota

Hi Ants , we both really enjoyed your video. We were both inpressed with the size of fish being planted. My husband has worked helping the DNR in Michigan with the fishery..he wants me to ask what the cost is where you live for one fish planting? Why don't you put in smaller fish and just let them grow up?
@ants_countrylife8 ай бұрын
Our fish cost roughly £2.50per pound of fish up to 4 pound in weight then the cost escalates quickly … the fish are stocked to be caught straight away so don’t get much time to grow on
@wendyhansen32237 ай бұрын
Those are huge planter fish.
@janewills33798 ай бұрын
I enjoyed that, thanks Ant. I have never heard of triploids before nor blue trout so I'm busily looking those up. Does anyone fishing have to puchase a special permit and if so, to whom is the money paid? Enjoy seeing green and water, almost 25cm of snow here, very white.
@ants_countrylife8 ай бұрын
The fishermen pay for a day ticket or permit and this allows them to fish on the lake and the money goes to the fishery as it is a business
@janewills33798 ай бұрын
Hey, that's nice, money going back to the fishery, makes sense, thanks for replying.

@ants_countrylife8 ай бұрын
That’s right no they don’t breed at all
@julieh48168 ай бұрын
@@ants_countrylife Do they breed any fish in there at all, filling every 2 weeks with those fish would cost a few bob. Very interesting to see them come out the shoot, if you could get nearer the water could they go direct instead of using the net? Never seen something like this before!
@ants_countrylife8 ай бұрын
We have wild brown trout that breed in the lake and we could put the fish in directly if we had better access
@barbarakarl39597 ай бұрын
Please, dear Ant, are you able to explain to me, why do you have to put extra fishes in the lake? Aren't there basicly enough in such a big water? I don't understand anything about fishery and so I ask (perhaps silly...). Yours, Barbara from Vienna
@ants_countrylife5 ай бұрын
Hi Barbara the lake is a commercial fly fishery where people pay to fish and take them home .. so we need to restock every couple of weeks to keep the numbers of fish at a certain level .. I hope this helps

This is very interesting. I live in the “Lakes District” in BC Canada and I’ve heard of places that stock fish but never have seen it before. The lakes I go to and grew up on have natural spawning. I always thought that fish would be really small when introduced and then would grow in the lake 🤦♀️ How many fish does a permit allow a person to catch in a day?
