I don't mind hearing about the batteries one bit! That's how I found your vlog several years ago! We'd just had a wind storm here on the prairie of central Illinois. The power had gone out and an elderly neighbor was sleeping without her CPAP machine. I started looking up reviews on the Jackery and other batteries to try to convince her to get one to run her CPAP. I happened upon your Jackery review and the rest is history! I had never heard of narrowboats or the British canal system. But I'd spent my childhood "out in the weather" working on the family farm and taking care of a horse. So your travels in the wind and the rain, and your cold sunny days take me right back to those days when often the sweetest part was stepping into the cozy house with supper waiting. Air-Fryer stuffed mushrooms: Remove stems and save to sauté with another dish. Wash mushrooms or clean using your own method. Stuff mushrooms with cream cheese. Sprinkle with “Everything But The Bagel” seasoning. 400 degrees for 15 mi utes. Enjoy. They’re delicious.

That Lemon Hart & Son rum is truly powerful stuff - 75% alcohol (151 proof for US tipplers). One story I heard is that 151 proof rums were popularised among early expedition ships heading towards the Arctic Circle as they had enough alcohol content so as not to freeze. So if your narrowboat gets frozen in this winter, your special 75% rum should get you through the worst of the weather.

Heidi you will sleep after that rum l really think your have your boat so cosy and nice l was just thinking about the long bar you push forward and noticed that the wooden blocks with holes in on the ceiling what the rod goes threw are getting quite worn maybe you could have some one put new ones in with possibly a metal ring inside the blocks to stop the wood wearing away and maybe the rod will move smoother. best wishes to you and Bonny take care have a nice weekend 😊😊❤

Yes to an air fryer. I’ve got two, a cheap one that is a simple air fryer. Also a Ninja Max, that air fries, slow cooks, pressure cooks, steams, grills, roasts, bakes, sautés and more. With the two I never need my oven! They may be power hungry, especially the Ninja, not a problem for me living on-land but may be to you on a boat. Lovely vlog as always, stay warm and safe both of you. xxxx

Hi Heidi , Just an idea that might (just might!) be a help with your gears... Where you have the rod running through the blocks along the boat I notice the holes are a lot bigger than the diameter of the rod. This will allow the rod to wiggle and bend quite a bit - especially if the rod is not completely straight to start with. (Has it bent over the years through too much pushing and pulling?) This flexing might be enough to resist your pushing and stop it going all the way in. Packing around the rod in the holes in the blocks with something like felt might be all that's needed. Tightening up your nuts and/or checking for wear to stop the selector rattling will help but I think floppy bits could be your problem. Try and get everything aligned securely with no flexing and hopefully it'll go in a lot easier with less of a struggle.😲😁

Hi Heidi if you follow your gear bar all the way from the front of the boat you will notice it is rubbing on the beam's it goes through so at the gearbox end where you get the first angled joint there is an adjustment gap that the downward meets the actual gearbox, so try loosening the bolt and put the arm at the top instead of the bottom then the long bar from the front of the boat won't be dragging on the beams it goes through oh and put a bit of 3in1 oil on the part's of the bar that goes through the holes u never know it might just work 🐾🦜☠️

Your hair looks Great 👍 The weather is very challenging this time of year. No UV's to keep our solar panels up 😥 Don't start our generator unless really need to during the day, but need it in the evening to charge our batteries and heat the water. We have rechargeable battery lights on in the evening, with movement activated lights in the galley and bathroom for when we need them. We have coped for 12 years now, so think we have cracked it 👍 Bought Amazon rechareable batteries last time and they have been the best ever!

75.5% Phew! That'll kill the germs alright Heidi, no chance of your catching a cold ducks! I''ll tek a wee tot o whisky wiv thee now, heres to 'ee, an pieces o eight to boot. No point in me being part Scottish without keeping up the Highland traditions. Got to stay healthy this time o the year and the tots help scare off the wee germies, have to make up for the lack of sunlight through the dark winter weeks eh. Next to do is cook a high cuisine meal, bangers & mash!! How the rich live!🤣Keep warm ducks in your snug little boat, my place used to be tack rooms (I look out on the old farmyard) and it takes a bit of heating but I try to be frugal with the price of electrics now, my jerseys get thicker. The view out of my kitchen window this morning was a bit white but it soon was gone by ten o' the clock, certainly no risk of sunburn! Fed the birds (large & small) in the orchard before b'fast, Robin was inches away, not seen him for a few weeks so glad to see him, he looked at me bit grumpy like as I was putting out corn for the pheasants including Bertie and his friends, he looked positively disgusted, very impatient couldn't wait for me to scatter the small bird food on the bird tables. All the others came down too, they all think they are called "Robin", blues and great tits, nuthatches et alia; even a good view of black & white Woodpecker on one of the hundreds of trees on the edge of the woods. I doesn't matter ware you store the energy it all comes from either diesel or solar so do as you feel is best. A split system is obviously going to offer more resilience to prevailing conditions so keep using the power bank as needed. It is simple as log as you don't complicate things.

I've got one of those floppy Bluetti solar panels. What they don't tell you is they're not all weather. You can't leave them out in snow or rain. So it's true what they say, a floppy one is useless when it's cold and wet.

Well that’s spooky, I was only, during your last episode, wondering about Nicky and where she was. Sad seeing that boat. I would have SO loved to do a winter on a narrowboat, done a few summers but always wanted to do a winter. I know it’s much harder, and probably a bit more dangerous, but it’s so very pretty just lots to keep on top of, sure power is right up there but if you’re frozen in it’s food, water, toilet waste, rubbish, everything you have to consider; but sadly at 75 I need to be sensible as we’d have walk the tow paths and knees etc aren’t what they use to be. Definitely a nutter too! Love swimming in an outdoor pool when its cold ❄️ You have a great set up for winter. I use a small anker power pack when I'm camping in my tent and always so handy to put in a rucksack while out walking or cycling as well 😁 Pitta bread pizza's in the Airfryer - tomato pasta sauce for the base, mozzarella, pepperoni, red onion and jalapenos 😋

Sheesh! I watch all your videos, and comment from time to time as well. . . . then I notice I'm not even subscribed!!! Fixed that. I borked up that same junction when we came off the Middlewich branch. I haven't bunged up too much, but this one I did. . . . and the turn at Middlewich itself, but I don't count that, as it was due to high winds, which made it tough for a few boats.
