Yeah and bond or bolt them to the supports. Think id be trying to bolt the box to the cross members too, that was the 1st failure point in the speed test. Id also buy another complete set and add an extra suction cup front n rear for peace of mind.

Make sure the box is properly angled. The bottom of the box needs to be perfectly level with the ground. If not, it becomes a plane and can create enough lift to break away. I've seen it happen several times.

Shmee provided us with some of the most exclusive and special experiences in the automotive world, and does it on a regular basis. For that reason, I stand by my original comment.

@14:00 Bring those suckers into the center a bit more Tim team if there happens to be a panel gap there underneath. Only put the sucker on a completely smooth surface for maximum grip. Always keep the contact surfaces clean and dry (even when your out) and i'd use an alcohol based cleaner as a final wipe to remove any detergents/residues. You want to give the suckers every chance what with all that wind around, obviously don't want the box to loose contact. Keep the contents stable inside don't want any inertial issues to complicate things either. I'd also have the bars cut shorter for aesthetics to bespoke fit the box to the car (after checking the roof width's of other possible contenders).

That's a novelty Tim! Only comment I would make....the box is sitting slightly low at the back....this means that the box will be creating lift at the front, creating a lot of leverage, at 70 +, on the front suction cups. If it came off on the Autobahn at speed it would likely be a big bill for your Insurance company and possibly kill someone in the car behind, so the underside of the box needs to be exactly level/horizontal (in relation to the road) in order to create a small amount of downforce.

Going on a ski trip in that thing sounds awesome! Is there any way to ever so slightly raise the back of the roof box and lower the front? Maybe some sort of custom bracket solution. It kind of looks like it's a little lower at the back and has its nose up in the air a bit at the front. I remember Jon Olsson's projects back in the day had taller stays for the box at the back to keep it level with the ground. Can't wait to see the SF90 in the snow!

Never thought I could relate to Shmee but this summer I also put a roofbox on a car to go on a mountain related vacation. Granted, the roofbox was an old Thule we lent from a friend and the car was a 2008 Ford Fiesta, but even that comes with its challenges :D

Hi Tim, Love the Channel, I have used SeaSuckers to hold roof bars for the last 6 years ( making my own attachments as they did not have all the attachments they have today ) I use it to carry long Racing Canoes (very long and overhanging front and back) all over the country at Motorway Speeds with no complaints on two different "sporty" cars (both have no roof rails). The SeakSuckers - do protect the rubber undersides, and check the Orange band is not showing before driving. I leave mine on permanently and they only need re-pumping every week in very hot dry summer conditions, and maybe once per month in Autumn / Winter conditions in my experience. My cars I have not PPF'd but due to the surface areas involved that should not be a problem as you explained in the video. (When fitting I wetted the SeaSucker underside slightly but only because I though it would help and for no other reason). PS: Your set up has an extra two SeaSucker pads on the front than I do, so you are all sorted with a more than ideal setup. Enjoy.

Did the same thing once here in Canada. I love skiing and I was driving my summer tire 488gtb to the mountain on a bluebird day, how silly I am!!! But I will never forget that experience. I put Boots at the trunk and skis in the cabin, cruising on hwy 1 to Cypress Mountain. Tire traction was good but I will never do that again 😅😅😅

Looks great! While it’s certainly not an SF90, I’ve been rolling with a Seasucker ski rack on my ND Miata for 2 seasons now - it’s absolutely amazing. Phenomenal choice with the roof box too, I can’t wait to see the end product!

Make sure to add water to the surface and to the suction cups when mounting. Helps the suction. Obviously avoid if it's already freezing so you don't damage the cups. I ha love used these for years with a heavy bike, never had a problem even over a thousands of miles of driving. Just make sure to check them BEFORE driving as it can be easy to loosen. And remove when the vehicle is going to be parked for any extended period of time as removal is easy for anyone walking by

You would proably fair better leaving your ski's and poles in the bag. Less moving around and less likely to cause ski damage....imo. Maybe look into Locktite for the threads to keep your attachment points secure....the stuff works great.

This is awesome! As an avid skier myself i can appreciate the roof box on a sport or in this case hyper car. Even with winter tires be careful in the U.s at least we have some incredibly dangerous mountain passes and even with AWD and snow tires it can be "interesting".

I would consider cutting the bars same width as roof, level the box out and get the PPF circles cut out for the suction pads, however im sure your well on top of things given how relaxed you are. Tim you should set the Roof Box at full bias with the most of the box hanging over the rear not the front and definitely not onthe "even" bias of the middle as you set it here. The Box with the lip will desinegrate because of the overhang and the cavitation from the Roof and Windshield below. cheers

Maybe slightly controversial to some, but I think roof boxes on supercars looks awesome. I think you might need to get a few more to make a few other cars more functional as well. I can only suggest taking the covers for the suction cups with you so you can pop the whole unit off as one if you are planning to hit the track or something.

The Thule Dynamic is a quite surprising choice of roof box for a Ferrari. I would have recommended something more stylish like the Hapro Zenith or the Northline Tirol. Doesn't matter all that much though, can't wait to see the Thule box painted! Roofboxes matched to the colour of the car always look great.

Just make sure the box doesn't act like a wing and create lift underneath it, if there is a way to make sure the base is perfectly level, I'd make sure you get that setup!

Smart bit of kit. Old roof box needed a clamp strap in the door frame which could loosen and not unneat. So now you have a "Vol Ari"

The SF90 is a beast, but a perfect car at the same time, except for one shortcomming - lugage space -. I had the same idea, but I created a tailbox (not a roofbox) for my SF90 Spider using a similar technique, which is supposed to be much more aerodynamic than Tim's roofbox, although a bit shorter.

That actually is a bit concerning how easily the suction cups come off, lol. I think, by the morning after your start trips, verify they are still suctioned on. And some teenager didn’t come along and press the air release button. Don’t want to hit the road at 6am to the next destination and the box flies off at 35mph.

Applying the roof bars to the pdf makes me nervous, won't the weight with the full roof box eventually tare the ppf and cause it to come loose? I'd be asking topaz to do a custom piece with cut outs for the suction cups. Impressive if it can handle it though

Cut out a piece of carpet to line the floor of the roof box. It'll protect your skis, and silence any noise from whatever you have in there.

personally i would slide the roof box all the way back so it hangs less over the front of your windshield less then what it is currently doing, with the adjustable movement in the roof box it should be no problem, will have a cleaner look as well which is what i have for my car as i have the bars quite close as well
