Great pantry. Most people don't realize that it is doable. Buy few extra items each grocery trip. It adds up fast! It doesn't have to be over whelming. Ty for sharing with us all.

We built our own house 10 years ago and the first thing I planned/designed was a big walk in pantry. I love it. So easy to see everything at once and not open each cabinet. Plus my husband built us a can rotation system on a wall in the pantry.

A can rotation would be amazing 😊

When the budget allows I’ll take an extra 25-50 to stock up on sale items to put in the pantry or freezer. Usually try to do that a couple times a month for 9 months out of the year and then use up what we have stored during the winter.

That is a great idea also! Thanks for sharing!

The milk from the dollar tree is $1.25 and tastes way better than a $5 gallon. Super good staple!!

Yes the hard part is to stay organized! Take a sharpie and put the expiration dates on them , and rotate. Nice job

I would keep Hershey’s chocolate and strawberry syrups on stock to add to powdered milk if you ever needed

I place a whole bag of flour in a 5 gallon bucket in it's orginal packaging(flour bag is not air tight). I place a 3000cc oxygen absorber in the bucket, cover it then use my vaccum sealer to seal the bucket. I also put a bay leaf inside the bucket to deter bugs. I use food grade buckets that I can buy used for $3 cdn with the lids. I just bought 25 buckets for $75 cdn.
@10KidsandAGarage7 ай бұрын
For me I use the flour all the time. But if I was sealing it I would do that. I like the bay leaf idea though. Where did you get the used lids from?

This should give you some peace of mind. We started off this way, it is an easy way to build a stock starting with stored canned goods and processed foods. I heard you also do your own canning… we did I also and eventually we began replacing the food with less processed foods and more home done single ingredient foods. Everyone eats differently, so zero judgement. We store what we eat and eat what we store. Great job.

I need to restock our apple juice. I’m just kicking myself for ignoring the last 98¢ sale. We really don’t drink juice, but I like having any extra liquids I can have on the shelf and it’s also nice for low blood sugar or constipation. To rotate through it even though we don’t drink it, I offer it up to kids when we have company because I know some people don’t just drink milk and water like we do. I can also use this for canning jellies this summer when fruit is cheap again.
@10KidsandAGarage7 ай бұрын
Yes. I was just going to say, if you keep in plastic it won’t last as long as canning it. With jelly 🙌 perfect.

Great food pantry.. I started about four years ago and now I have a lot that expired dates.. would you eat expired food? I asked everybody that.
@10KidsandAGarage7 ай бұрын
It really depends. Something’s are fine. I would see how it looks or smells.

What is the depth of your shelving? I dislike very deep food shelves (things get lost and forgotten and rotating is a pain). Just wondering what the sweet spot is.

Unfortunately, I don’t eat that way I don’t buy canned tomato sauce or Alfredo sauce or I make most everything homemade but you have 10 kids so I can see why you do it that way
@10KidsandAGarage7 ай бұрын
I do make homemade food. This is our pantry for storing food in case of an emergency. I do have another area we store pressure canned food. Plus we raise our own animals for meat.
