Hey everyone,
I want to share our pantry tour and the importance of having a well stocked pantry. There are so many issues right now with the economy, inflation, and global crises. Having a well stocked pantry can give you some peace knowing you can still feed your family in difficult times - whatever diffulties may come. I was sick filming this video and it took quite a bit of editing to make it look right so bear with me throughout it. Thanks for being here!!

For anyone just starting out, buy what you eat! Also take $5 a week to buy items to stock up on and definitely don't forget the spices. Depending on the store, $5 can buy a lot of extras. And rotate it out.

I literally gasped when you opened your pantry door. Your set up is amazing! I was surprised to hear that the freeze dryer raises electric bill that much. No one is talking about that part. We will be empty nesters this fall so one would be overkill for us at this point.

Thank you so much!! We were surprised when we received the bills on the months we've ran it. Our next bill, I will try to do a video with more detail on it. I agree. It is an important detail being left out that could be a make or break for people.

We are off grid and rely solely on solar with a backup propane generator. We can only use our freeze drier in the summer when we have abundant sun because otherwise we’d be paying so much in propane. So it only makes sense for us to freeze dry certain things otherwise it’s cost prohibitive.

I absolutely love your pantry and the other spaces throughout your home kitchen where you have short term and long-term storage for food. The pantry that you redid is gorgeous can’t say enough about it. I love stuff like that. . That’s why I paused the video sometimes and just stare in aww! I can sort it out in my head and get ideas from what you’ve done. Their ideas not copycats because I don’t have the same space you do.. Hope you get to feeling better soon. My best advice is only buy what you will actually eat. We learned this the hard way. I'm sure alot of people found this out also. Mac and cheese is a must. Not the powder kind. Variety of chips and crackers, all sorts of spices and sauces for tons of flavor, pasta, all our musts. We found out we don't use canned tomatoes, or canned beans except refried. That surprised us. Love your videos. Your pantry is great.

Hi Angela, just watched your pantry tour and wow it looks awesome. Good job! Although I did notice that you had 2 cans of Crisco in your pantry. Please take some advice and smell it before using it, I don't know how long you've had it in your pantry, but it does spoil over time. I had some on my pantry shelf and had used it for popcorn and yea, popcorn had a funny smell and taste to it. So I opened up the lid of the crisco can and whew it was rancid. I didn't noticed it before I made the popcorn but I noticed the date of the can and yea it was well past the due date. Thanks for sharing your video. Love & hugs Laurie from Waterloo, Indiana.

I was canning peaches and mixed up my unlabeled salt and sugar. Thankfully, I caught it before I canned it. I had to soak and rinse the peaches. I was able to save them and can them just fine. My dad was staying with us and surprised us with French toast. He said I was lucky that he sniffed my unlabled spices because we almost got paprika instead of cinnamon. My husband put sugar sprinkles in his dad's coffee instead of sugar. I now label. 😂

Your new pantry ahekves look amazing. If you hate that label on the kale jar then try lemon essential oil. I've had great luck removing the sticky backing of labels off of jars with it. He was also out recently for some other projects, but we didn't mention anything to him. We are going to go into the details on our next electric bill. I've heard people say they did not see much increase, and I have heard people say their bill to run theirs was higher than ours, so it'll be interesting to see the breakdown of the details. I think a lot may have to do with location and what type of energy peoples homes run off of. We will be doing a video on our situation soon!

Roast in a jar is the best! Chuck roast, Boston butt pork, leg of lamb. Trim fat, cut chunks to fit thru jar mouth. Dry seasonings [salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, steak seasonings, etc] on each side. Sizzling hot pan, SEAR every side. 1" broth in 🫙, stuff 🫙, push it down! Extra room?, add some liquid-makes great gravy starter. Process. Just mom and me, a qt will give us 4 skimpy servings of meat, because I do add more liquid rather than packing it in. (Just bought a saurkraut pounder.) Ground beef, I add a jar of black beans and lentils on taco night, plain lentils for Italian or shepherds pie. 😊 Hawaiian-style Chinese. SPAM, cube it and sear it; drained can of 🍍 chunks, cut smaller, sear in same pan. Stir fry veges, fried rice. Sweet&sour sauce.

Oh my I did the same thing with salt. When I was young I made chocolate chip cookies. My mom had bulk items in bags. I took what I thought was sugar in an unlabeled bag which was salt. I proceeded to have my neighbor try one of my cookies before I did. Oh how embarrassing.

I'm not a fan of Alfredo sauce in general personally, but this is the only kind I will eat. My family enjoys it a lot, and it's quick to make up. Three of my kids can make it themselves it's so easy! We always keep some on hand.

I watch our electric bill closely, we have not had much increase do to running our freeze dryer. Ours run daily. You may want to attach a meter to test usage.

@rockymountainhomesteadwith8092 Ай бұрын
There's no need to. There were no other changes to the way we do things other than running the freeze dryer. We run multiple washers and dryers every day, multiple fridges and freezers and we are home mostly all day so we run more things than most homes and we've never had high electric bills. My husband and I plan to do a video sharing more details on the actual costs for us running a freeze dryer with our next bill.
@rockymountainhomesteadwith8092

Not sure the size you have but running it daily... I can't imagine it not increasing your electric bill significantly!! We have the large size freeze dryer, which required it's own 20 Amp circuit because it draws up to 16 amps per hour(more than 1500 watts)
