I love your idea of having a sifter. Here’s a helpful hint: aquafaba (that’s the liquid in a can of chickpeas) can be used as a substitute for eggs in baking. 3 tablespoons of aquafaba equal one egg. I would recommend getting unsalted canned chickpeas. Also, ground flax seeds mixed with water will create a gelatinous substance that can be used as an egg substitute in baking.

Chia seeds can be an egg replacement also. I believe 1 tbsp chia seeds to 3 tbsp chia seeds, mixed together and refrigerated for 15 minutes replaced 1 egg.

Today I received a large order of food and I was wondering how nice it would be to have pantry furniture that makes it easier for us to rotate our foods. Maybe something with rotating shelves or that we can also open at the back. Was very happy to finally receive some parboiled rice for 2023. Those large containers we can buy on IKEA (I think in the United States even dollar stores have those large plastic ones people like to keep in the garage) are very convenient to store boxes inside and keep insects and some moisture away. They're not perfectly sealed, but if you can't find the higher quality ones I believe they might be helpful and I plan on ordering them. Back in Brazil we used to sometimes keep old freezers, even if not in use to keep things cool, to store food inside away from ants and other insects. Many of you might be able to do the same, instead of dumping your old fridges, perhaps storing them in your garages with an anti moisture thing inside (otherwise sometimes mold can grow, please also sterilize it before using with bleach, 90% alcohol or something). UVC lights are also awesome to kill creatures in your pantry, bacteria and other stuff (they have to be exposed to it). Just keep in mind they'll make you blind or burn your skin if you get exposed, so you have to set them, close the area, turn the energy on while in safety. They tend to produce ozone (also toxic to breathe, be careful), which also kills stuff, including mold (not completely, but I noticed it helps a lot), if you let them run for a couple of hours on each application. Some expensive fridges also have UVC bulbs inside to kill bacteria. Thanks for another video. I wish you're well and safe. Have a nice weekend!

Just a side note on using unused fridges and freezers for storage. Make sure you have a way of securing them. I put a couple bungie cords together and put around them. the reason I do this is 2 reasons, Here in the US it is law that you secure any that are not inside your home (was told garage/shed not your home), failing to do so can get you a hefty fine...The second reason goes with first one When I was a kid, some neighborhood kids were playing around and we used to go from yard to yard (no one cared) anyways they were playing hide and seek, one of the neighbors had a old freezer in a shed and a little girl climbed in it to hide...well the kids couldnt find her and the alarm was raised. Parents all started looking and after a couple hrs she still hadnt been found so police were called. they didnt find her till the next day, she couldnt get out once the door shut, it created a vacume or something and she suffocated. Also they are for the most part sound proof so no one heard her screams. The man who owned the property was a nice person and well thought of and no one blamed him (except he blamed himself), he started drinking and about 2 yrs after the accident he was found hanging in that very shed, Sorry for the details but it still happens, kids hide in strange places. about 5 yrs after the accident a national law was signed into effect about freezers/fridges, so just a heads up if you didnt know about it or forgot.
@TheSimArchitect3 жыл бұрын
@@jeaniejbutler4911 I didn't know there were laws around it, but yes, that's great advice if your fridge is in a room without locks. Not sure how a child would be able to do that if my "outside of home" fridge were full of items and shelves inside, though, but that's great advise otherwise! Back in Canada we used to have a garage fridge (older one went to the garage, newer in the kitchen) and I think it's something many people used to do around as well (it was kept on and filled but you get the point).
@jeaniejbutler49113 жыл бұрын
@@TheSimArchitect Yes it was popular here in alot of neighborhoods at least in my city. in the early 70's is when the law came about, (you dont hear much about it till there is an accident involving a child now). I know it became a national law cause they had the bill signing in DC. To my knowledge it was never altered or rescinded. Maybe do a google search for your state or area. I wasnt anti the idea of using one for storage, I have used one myself for storage, I just wanted to put the warning out there so no accidents or legal problems would happen to any fellow preppers (anyone for that matter.) @@AlaskaGranny was called a Texas Sheet cake, done on a lopped cookie sheet or a jelly roll pan. I’ll look for the recipe. I know I wrote t down in a little notebook with other recipes that I hope “helpers” didn’t toss out.

Just the sports drinks here, mostly the small sizes. They are always hard to get just before back to school. School here will be in person and starts mid August. Bologna and hot dogs were picked over too as were the big bags of Malt-o-Meal cereal.

I was able to find two 12 packs of the small Gatorade in the fruit punch flavor, I would have preferred the lemon-lime. My guys work construction and taking them to work, but it is getting hard to find them at times.

I've heard so many preppers I've watch talk about how great lds prices are but I can't even get to the shopping menu after I create my account and check the box that says I am not a member. I got away from using a sifter but I still have one. My mom always sifted all the dry ingredients together so they were fluffy and evenly disbursed. Of course I grew up poor and got commodities which often sat for a while and got weevilly or lumpy. I had an infestation of flour beetles a couple of years ago and my daughter was horrified that I just sifted them out. I just sifted the pancake mix in question and stuck it in the freezer when she wasn’t looking. 🤣😆😂🤣 she gave me the side eye the next time I made pancakes though.
@AlaskaGranny3 жыл бұрын
I love your story! Thanks so much for sharing it, and with such detail, I can picture it. Nice you still have the sifter, so many of us go into declutter mode, and get rid of things we haven't used lately.

The mixes that contain the oils and eggs and such are quicker and easier to make, but they don't last as long on the shelf, because they have the eggs and oils in them, so don't last as long. Actually better to store the ones that don't contain the eggs and oils for long term.
@AlaskaGranny3 жыл бұрын
Yes, single ingredients store and last the longest. Mixes are nice to have also for easy quick meals.
