Getting ahead of the crowd is SO important. I live in hurricane country and as soon as “the crowd” decides it’s time to vacate, the roads become almost impassable. Can take hours to go a distance that you should be able to travel in minutes. Gas stations quickly run out, etc, etc, etc. it’s scary.

I figured out a while back that it’s good to have a combination of plans and back up plans because depending upon the situation… And if it changes more than once… Your plans must also change to keep you and your loved ones as well as your supplies safe and secure. I do not live in a big city I live in a town but I also live in an apartment complex. Fortunately I know several of my neighbors and There are quite a few first responders that live in my apartments so that’s a good thing. I have supplies enough for myself and my kids for a certain amount of time. I also have some supplies dedicated to bugging out and leaving and I have given myself less than an hour to pack everything into the car to leave. I understand that I will have to leave some things behind which is why I have things organized a certain way so that I will be able to get everything into the vehicle within the timeframe. Even so, I will still have to leave things behind which will truly suck on a major level. That being said, I can take almost everything with me because I have made it so that it is mobile just in case. I also have four different places to go. One is only a few miles away. Another is also close by but it is in a rural location that is hard to get to. The other locations are further away and would be more than 2 Hours Dr. One of them is a piece of land I own and the other is a family members house who is a diehard Prepper with enough supplies to last for months. I also have a fifth possible location but I would only go there if I had absolutely nowhere else to go. I have alternative means of transportation in case the car breaks down or there is an EMP such as a bicycle, canoe, etc. if I really want to get away from everyone I will go somewhere that they cannot drive a vehicle to reach. All that being said, my first and most preferred choice is to bunk around. I’ve got everything that I need where I am. I don’t live on a ground floor. I have my own back porch garden and grow some of my own food in addition to what I have purchased from the store. I’m teaching my kids how to shoot accurately. They already know how to fish and forage. So I’m on The right path but there is always a lot more to learn and we are living in perilous times. Even with all that I know and all that I have there are no guarantees so the biggest thing is to stay situationally aware and keep an eye on the news locally and nationally as well as globally. Be ready to jump and know which way to jump.

I appreciate your comment on covid pre-prep. Even organizations that should have preps and plans failed epically. Via conversations with our state senators, my state had a PLAN, but no supplies. That said, the hospitals in our state capitol did NOT have a plan or supplies. They have been too worried about losing money due to poor billing practices, and patient overload due to poor treatment policies. Thats on a good day.

If there’s a real disaster/SHTF event, people are all going to flee the cities and the roads will be jammed. They won’t be able to get anywhere. If you live in a city, you need to bug out before the event happens. Basically you shouldn’t live in cities.... look at 9/11 in New York. The roads and bridges were jammed and people couldn’t get out of the city.... Security cams only work if you have power. I have a ring cam and it’s great but without power and the internet it’s useless. I’m thinking in a real SHTF event the grid and internet will be down. You will need to go old school and have people standing watch to secure your location...

I am over 35 miles from the closest town. It is less than 12,000 people. My plan is Bunker In and have members gather here. I have stocked and planed for that. Unfortunately most that would arrive are NOT properly prepared. They do not have a plan to get here or have they gathered supplies needed. I am working on them. It is a slow process to get them in the mind set. I have spent years getting spare parts for the various firearms. That covers a lot of types, make and models. Even with only the most wear parts it is hundreds of parts. I had to create a parts cross reference interchange list.

We are not prepping for an apocalypse. But we have prepped for shutdowns. We have rabbits. Just put in a chicken coop..which gives the fertilizers. As well as meat and eggs. Have also tripled pantry supplies, seeds and gas/ diesel, propane, water. Bugout and hunting location ready also has fishing. Have the GO bags. And heat/ air backups. Some solar. Garden and fruit trees. I did purchase extra air mattresses and sheet sets to take in family if necessary. This time of year these things are fairly inexpensive. So I can now take in up to 6 more. So I am prepared if this does happen.

I was out working at my other location I have. I was hungry, healthy food not close by and earlier eaten my lunch. I've been prepping for years and trying things. I had some trail mix that was about 1.5 years out of date I eat a hand full of it, little later gave me a headache. About a month ago, I eat some more of that out dated food because I was hungry and a ways from healthy my food. I eat some out date 1.5 years out of date cookies and honey gram crackers it give me a bit of a tummy ache later. I have alot of food saved but eventually it will go out of date too hopefully it won't give me a tummy ache or head ache!!! But out of date food something is better than nothing! I try to rotate my prepped food but it's not rotating fast enough to keep dates good forever. Expired food it's going to happen. On the coldest days in the winter I slept in my hidden tiny home one of the coldest freezing nights if the winter. I didn't cut the heat on before going to bed. Here is how I did it and stayed very warm. One new Walmart mummy style $40.00 about sleeping bag I got in. Another cheap $30.00 about rectangle sleeping bag over that. And 9 blankets on top of me. I had my 7 layer hat on (Hat is just 7 cheap dollar tree hats) socks on, under wear on and flannel shirt on. I have worked outside for years and have enough clothes to make it with no heat After sleeping in my hidden mobile tiny home not insulated yet about no more than 30 minutes I was very warm - hot and sweating. I had to take most of my blankets off. I have to try things never know when my propane will eventually run out and no electric heat or propane heater won't work!!!

I started "prepping" in 2009 after the financial crisis, but then moved to homesteading for the more common scenarios (power outages, job loss, natural disasters, etc. that actually occurred -- and could happen to me again). It is less overwhelming if you look at one or two situations that are most likely to happen in your life/area/situation and go from there. That way you won't waste time and money on worst case SHTF scenarios that are less likely (EMP, economic/societal collapse, war, plague, etc.) while you're just beginning prepping. Good luck!

These were called fallout shelters back in the day. Popular in the late fifties early sixties. Same idea, dig a hole fill it with everything you need only you don't. Throw the wife and kids in, if you have them. Climb your own ass in and pull the top over you. Now you are comfortable, warm looking forward to your first reconstituted food pellets. Life was good and then you started worrying. What did you forget to stash. Time drags on, kid start to act up. Still life is good everyone it safe. And then comes the knock on the door ???. Wtf. No one was suppose to know this was a bomb shelter. The knock continues and so you open the door and it's your teenage daughters boy friend. She promise him he could stay there. So everyone settles down and things go back to adnormal. Then there is another knock. Barney your nine year old son told everyone on the little league team they could stay there, couch and all, they are in their away game uniforms. So you make a little room for them. Sports will be important in recovery. Wishing you had a cold beer, and thinking about sneaking back into the house and getting one, you can't do it. It would be cheating.so you resign yourself to make the best of it. And then, you guessed it. There is singing outside your door. It's the church choir. Seem the Mrs. Told them they were all saved. As the last one enters, you close the door, you put a great big rock up against it. You are on the outside we're there may be a reason to survive. Now you think of that cold beer. Na, this is the sixties, drugs are starting to become popular. So here we are again. History repeats it's self.

I'm no longer allowed to post links, but there certainly are some valid videos about this subject (on KZbin) and it does go along the usual IFs, ANDs, ORs, BUTs.

Under the right conditions and if stored properly, they do lose their taste after so long and nutritional value but it's food nonetheless and it won't hurt you

Understood. However, remember that the deity only helps those who totally do it themselves. Do your prep work...and faith is cool too.

You said that you were a Christian in the context of sharing your prepped foods with those who are caught unprepared. Well, just exactly what type of Christian are you? I am curious. Because my Bible says in 2Thess 3:10 that if one is undisciplined and not work, they should not eat. Harsh? Tell God about it.

You can't just write off people as useless. I learned this a long time ago. There was on young guy that just seemed dumb as dirt. But... He always worked kept a home took care of his children and drove a decent truck. But to talk to him you would not get that. So don't discount people. You may be counting out a person that is just quiet. They have skills and are resourceful.

I was disappointed with what you said about traps and trapping. You should have just said you didn't know or you only had experience with live catch traps.
