off site storage facilities get robbed ALL the time. it has happened to me twice. I would NOT recommend using off site public storage. Unless youre storing cheap stuff.

Good point Danh. There are a few points here that can help... 1) Indoor storage facilities are much safer because all of the entrances are enclosed. It's also a good idea to discuss security measures these facilities may have to protect your supplies. Since these facilities DO get robbed, most now realize that this is a customer concern and have plans in place to safeguard your stuff. 2) I actually use a few very small independent facilities located in much safer (rural) areas along my planned evacuation routes should I have to bug out. I keep resupply of fuel, food, ammo, a little cash, and water purification equipment along with replacement bugout bags just in case. Only costs me $10 per month for a very small space that isn't easy to find and is much safer caching location. Really good points you bring up. Thanks so much for commenting! :-)

Yeah and not everyone can afford to do that. I'm a senior citizen on a fixed income. There is no way I could do that, and there isn't one close by in any case.

Same. They are NOT secure. Also you may not have 24 hour access, and the security system could be offline during a disaster and might not let you in.

Prepare for emergency evac. If you live in an appartment. Lots of people using candles, propane, Butane ect in their places and if a SINGLE idiot in the complex has a house fire then essentially the whole complex does, so you will have to leave ASAP so prepare for that with a location to go to, as well as essentials already organized and marked in totes to just grab and go in a moment's notice.

Good points. One thing you can always count on in a crisis is that the people around you are going to react in "some" way... because they have to. They're dealing with the same crisis you are. In a neighborhood, not as much of a problem. Some knucklehead burns down his home trying to use a kerosene heater inside his living room just burns down HIS home. In an apartment building, the whole place could go up as you sleep. As @Ranger_T says, it only takes a single idiot. Always be prepped for a forced evacuation. Nice add.

I took my front entrance hallway ( live in an apartment) and use a Baker's Rack, an Armoire, Bookcase and another Rack plus a small cart on wheels as my Prepping Pantry. The armoire has drawers so one for is for shelf stable proteins such as peanut butter, canned fish and another holds Tomato Sauce, paste and so on. Of course my freezer is full, paper goods for 18 months is on a linen closet, and cat food & litter stocked up for months. I have a fairly large apartment but it still can be done if you are creative

Hi Zan! I stock Food4Patriots brand of survival food. It's a little over $1 per serving. You can definitely do it cheaper yourself, but I far prefer the selection of foods, ease of making them, the portability of the "kit" structure, and the taste. I've used these meals even with my own family at times and certainly when we're remote camping. They have a 72 hour free sample kit (perfect for a bugout bag) and I'll add a link inside the video description now. Thanks for your comments! (Very) much appreciated! :-)

What is the best way to store water for an emergency. I know someone who bought a lot of regular gallon water bottles which had expiration dates on them. She ended up drinking and sharing them. Thank you!
@Warrior6 жыл бұрын
You can definitely buy a bunch of gallon water jugs Marc. They're easy enough to set on shelves and they're portable (wouldn't worry so much about the expiration dates; water doesn't "spoil", but I don't like plastic leeching). However, this isn't the most efficient way - especially if you live in tight quarters without a lot of storage room. A better way would be to buy the large 5-gallon "fountain" jugs and they do sell stacking units for these. These are also portable enough to stick in the back of your vehicle if you're forced to leave your home and bugout in an evacuation. But if you ever need to set out on foot, again... not the most efficient. I do like the Water Bricks I talk about in the video (there's a link in the description to check them out) and you can store other things in them (like dry goods; ammunition, whatever you like - great for caching also). But the #1 most important factor is being able to "manufacture" your own water at-will. That's why I suggest having a mobile filter system like the water bag and in-line filter I show in the video. We actually include this setup in all of our bugout bags and there's a "shelter in place" adaptor that lets you use it with any holding device - even a garbage bag. Hope that helps. Thanks for commenting Marc!

Water has an expiration date on the package because New Jersey passed a law that all consumables must have one. Manufacturers don’t make separate packages for just one state, so it’s on all of them.

Dried food is a must! Great video!
@Warrior5 жыл бұрын
Yes, dried survival foods (dehydrated, freeze-dried, etc.) are definitely a better way to store survival food than heavier canned goods and other bulk foods (like rice, flour, etc.) that can be destroyed by the actual event itself. Thanks for commenting. :-)

what about electricity or power /?
@Warrior4 жыл бұрын
Best answer is to have skills to live without it. Having any kind of generator for power will be more difficult in urban areas - nearly impossible for apartments if you want to stay in "stealth mode" (which you should). Solar would be an option - and these units are small enough they can be easily stored and the panels can be placed in a window. However, it will be a dead giveaway that you have power when people see the panels, so again... best approach is to be prepared to do what's needed without power at all. If others see that you have power when they don't, it can make you a target in a prolonged grid-down scenario.

@Jackie Fields Yes. This video doesn't cover an exhaustive list of equipment to have on hand, but certainly, a means of getting access to news and crisis status updates is needed. The topic of survival communication equipment is pretty deep and worthy of a future video all by itself. Other considerations should be 2-way commo as well as a police/first responder scanner to monitor how the rest of the world around you is responding. Thanks for commenting Jackie! :-)

Why on earth do you think it makes sense to shield water from UV radiation? Did you ever heard of UV sterilization?
@Warrior6 жыл бұрын
You're right MrKeira. I actually have a rainwater system and use a UV filter to make it drinkable. I misspoke about the reference to "water" and was really leading into how it can also be used for dry goods, even ammo, or other materials, in which case, when exposure to the sun is important for long-term storage, it will help protect what's inside. Sorry for the mistake.
