I am 67 years old. I am not a a prepper, but I am also a prepper. I never know the term prepper until 10 years ago. I always stockpile on sale items (of course those I use). I stock up on sale food, supplies, and everything. I am not preparing for doomsday. I just want to save money. I got this habit from my parents who suffered a lot from WWII. I don't have any financial problems now because of this good habit; but I still calculate my spending spontaneously.

If your on a fixed income and mine is $300 every 2 weeks so its a rock bottom income, focus on these 3 items first. The Amazon 216 piece survival kit (It has the most items for your buck) . The second is a SOS survival tent and a Emergency sleeping bag. Both items are small and fits in the palm of your hand and can be tucked under your car seat. If you have those 3 things in your car or vehicle than you can survive out side for a while in the woods if you ever have to walk when your vehicle is out of gas. The only other things you'll need then is Water and food. Remember your car is the first thing you'll run to if you have to evacuate your home if the SHTF.

When my kids were little my friends and I would ask older neighbors if we could pick the fruit on their trees if they weren't going to harvest it. the answer was almost always yes. We would gather up our kids and pick fruit, then can it or freeze it. We would always take canned fruit or preserves to the neighbors as a thank you. It was a great trade and we learned quite a bit from listening to stories about preservation or gardening.

Food deydrator and got another at a thrift store for 15$ The other day a lady was cleaning out her barn and gave me 3 dozen pint canning jars they are very dirty I'm still working on washing some of them and some have flaws so I will use them for flowers or organisation instead of canning!

Ground beef here is not less than $5 a pound! Sale price this week was over 6! We saved and found a place to buy bulk hamburger locally grown for 4 dollars a pound. Loading the freezer until,I can get time to try the canner I bought. Started with getting a weeks worth of stored food. Building on that as we can and now have at least 6 months. Every little bit does add up. After we had a month food we started slowly adding on other essentials.

May I encourage you to start canning your meat now. Ground beef is super easy and can be seasoned or left plain. I just did some with taco seasoning, now when I want tacos I just open a jar, warm it in the microwave and I’m ready to make my meal. Remember, a pint a pound when figuring how much meat to prepare. 1 pound of meat gets you 1 pint canned. If you add seasonings or tomato paste you will of course get extra jars canned. Make a double recipe for chili and can the rest. For a single person a pint can be 2 meals. All meat except fish is canned 75 min pints or 90 min quarts. Get busy now cause the price and availability of meat will be too expensive or not to be found!

A pint a pound is an old saying, I think it depends on the product you are canning. The liquid you add to a jar the less actual meat will fit safely in that jar. For example, cooked ground beef drained of fat. As opposed to fat included, it’s recommended to add water to headspace, de bubble, how much water (or broth) will effect the actual amount of ground beef by weight you get. I just take the saying as an approximate amount to decide how many jars to prepare for each canning session. Don’t sweat the small stuff, the important thing is prepare your pantry 🥰 Best wishes to you. Like in the movie “finding Nemo” keep on swimming, keep on swimming 🥰😄🥰😄

How and when to get various items for some reasonable price: In the last two years, here in Berilin/Germany several supermarkets and other shops closed. Mostly not because of insolvency, but voluntarily, mainly because of the rising costs. What they did in the last days before their doors were finally closed was to sell everything with massive price reductions. It you hear about an almost-fully shop/supermarket will close in the neartime, try to hit the right time when to buy. I've seen sales prices 60-70 % below regular price that time, and today I would have to pay more than four times in relation to what I've paid that time for some goods.

Got 2 turkeys on sale today for 49 cents a pound! Would have got more but don't have any more room in the freezer. I try to combine coupons with sales (wait until an item is on sale and then use a coupon at that time). I also shop the clearance areas at the store - meats, breads, etc. A big help is utilizing the fuel points when shopping. King Soopers (Kroger) typically has 4x fuel points when you shop on Fridays, and also 2-4x fuel points on gift cards. So I shop on Fridays and also get gift cards for places I'm going to shop anyway (Lowe's, Amazon, etc.). I end up with over 2,000 points a month, you get 10 cents off a gallon of gas per 100 points and can get up to $1 off per gallon for 35 gallons per fill-up. Husband and I fill up both cars together so going twice a month means we save $70/month on gas.

I am frugal by nature I guess. I watch my spending because I’m on disability retirement income. However, If I know I need something, I actively watch to see if it’s on sale. This goes for groceries as well as other personal items, clothing, etc. I not only am learning to can, but I buy fresh produce when they’re on sale and dehydrate it. I’m planning on using the dehydrated food to make dehydrated meals in a jar that I just have to add water. They’ll be shelf stable and basically are a one pot meal that you just add water and heat. Might be a good bartering item in the future too. Plus, I have family that aren’t prepared, so I’m trying to make meals I know I could give to them or a family friend in need. Routine checks of the sale shelves are a good idea to find items you may need. I’ve been through hard times which has helped me learn to look for deals. I raised my 3 kids on a $5.00 an hour job as a single mom after my husband left us. Cutting corners helps too. Instead of using a full pound of ground beef for spaghetti, etc. I use a half pound. If I can buy bulk and save money I do. But you really have to know your prices. If I am going to bake, I do several meals at a time to save time and money. I have several recipes for 3 or 4 ingredient meals that we eat on a regular basis. Because it is cheaper, we can still have our bellies full and save money at the same time. Great video! Have a Merry Christmas Eric, Ashley and family!

I used to buy meat at the store, but last year many things were making me sick. I switched over to buying from a farm and not only did it not make me sick, but buying in bulk 1 time per quarter is actually cheaper and I have a ton of various beef products now. The best part is that while I watched inflation/shrinkflation going on in stores while none of my beef went up at all. They just announced their first very slight increase. I also recommend eggs, chicken and milk from good farms. My eggs and milk still have not gone up 1 cent.

I used to work the produce for a local grocery store. The store manager still gives me the culled produce that won't sell. Some I give to the chickens and cows but a lot of it is still perfectly fine for human consumption. It is a great blessing and money saver. TY for the information you share!

My son does landscaping and each spring, people from the Bay Area have him put gardens in their "country houses". They always want tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, and cucumbers. On average, they come up every 6 weeks or so until mid July. Then it's just too hot so they stay away. He always asks what they want him to do with the extra produce. Inevitably, they say to toss it or take it home. He brings it to me and I start canning it. We also donate to many low income and elderly people. Every year I can up several lugs worth of veggies that would otherwise have been tossed. I also cultivate friendships with our local small farmers. They in turn, will text me when they have extra fruits and veggies they need to move. I recently got 15 lbs of organic green beans for $5.00, 7 huge pumpkins for $3 each, "fancy" onions for $1 per pound (it actually ended up being approx 50 cents per large onion) , a bag of garlic for $3, a box of tomatoes for $1, and the list goes on. I am so very grateful as food prices are thru the roof here in N. California. Oh, and I also trade on a regular basis, for eggs. I usually get 6 goose eggs + 12 duck eggs + 12 -24 banty eggs for a pan of homemade ciinamon rolls. My son also trades a couple of hours labor for organic pears, 2 kinds of apples, and walnuts each year. It all adds up to a tremendous savings on our food costs. I am so very grateful and feel so blessed. I hope each and everyone of you has a blessed and wonderful New Year!

Sometimes I think that the reason people think they can't afford to buy extra is because they are buying the prepackaged, just add water, types of food. A one pound bag of rice was one dollar. I have never used an entire one pound bag of rice for anything. A half cup of rice with tomato soup poured over it is filling and so cheap. Hamburger Helper in a box is just egg noodles with spices. I buy a bag of egg noodles, add what I want. I'm not talking about making your own noodles (I have no clue how). Anyway, I hope we can all eat well for less this coming year.

For me, I have a bit to spend on some extra. I pick up a few cans or dry goods here and there. You do this over 6 months where you're shopping 2 times a month and soon you've got a stock of extra food. I get dry goods to start with, then move into can goods. My last big purchase was some Mountain House for my bug out bag. I also get stuff with the longest shelf life. Your advice about credit cards is a good one. I have one credit card and keep only a balance that I can pay off in 3 to 6 months on it. I do buy gold and silver but I buy silver rounds until I have enough to buy a 1/10 oz gold. It takes some time, but it's a good investment. I had a friend that served in Croatia during the war. He told me a story of watching women going to market and buying bread using gold links from a neckless.

I put aside $20 a month for meat. Every six months, I buy meat as I do my regular grocery shopping. I check the meat department for sales. If there are sales, I buy what is avaiable that my family will eat. Whatever amount of meat money is left, I add it to the next six months so in some cases the amount will be higher. I find having a separate meat budget (which includes beef, bison, lamb, chicken, turkey, salmon and cod...this is the only meat my family eats) actually saves my family a lot of money.

I didn't have the heart to tell him they wouldn't work in power outages and as prices go up, he was losing the value of the cards. 😂😂😂

Off topic comment. I like buying the wayside bacon (bits and pieces) for grinding venison burger. Lots of taticool people buy plates and plate carriers. I couldn't figure out when I would wear a plate carrier not in shtf. So I got a lv3 ballistics jacket for range, hunting, motorcycle, chainsawing, and going grocery shopping sometimes. Get out of debt. I save real money and ditch currencies as fast as possible. I bought my gtfo property with a lot of gold silver and cash. I had picked up American silver eagles under 20$ oz. When spot was less than out of ground prices. It's cheaper to buy ammo or arrows today than it will be in future. Look for stores of value. Currencies are no longer the best stores of value. Currencies now take up more space and weight to make the value of gold. 20 ounces of gold take less space and weight than 42000 dollars. And gold will be there if your house burns down unlike cash. Weapon lights and lasers are illegal in Michigan on weapons anywhere game animals maybe or are present. More of a homesteader than a tacticool prepper. Just trying to help people not get tickets for shining or artificial light law violation.

I smoked 6 turkeys after thanksgiving. So tired of turkeys! They were 79 cents a pound. Average 12 pounds each. Average 3.5 pounds of meat. Freeze dried them all. So much turkey. I still think the rotisserie chickens at Sam’s and Costco are still a better deal. I was just looking for some variety.

Yeah. My wife LOVES salmon; me, not so much. But, I've tried a few recipes that I like and will now eat salmon. Never had quinoa but, bought a small (expensive!) amount because of the protein content. Tried some last night. Don't think I'll be buying any more until I find recipes that are more palatable. Buy what you eat; eat what you buy.

I get 10lbs of ground beef for 30$ on the Wednesday sales. Every other time, it is more than that, everywhere in my area. If I can't make that sale, I don't get it. So in my area of south Mississippi, seems like 3$ a lb is a deal.

The thing about prepping is that a person has to be prepared for a number of unpleasant situations. It is all very well to talk about buying ground beef on sale...BUT what if the power fails for several days and all of the meat spoils because You can't cook it and have NO way to refrigerate or keep it frozen? Might be better to buy quality canned goods that will survive and that You could EAT right out of the can if You need to do so?

Personally I'm do something like this even with fuel not gasoline i talk about diesel it is have long life gasoline have limited live of 3 month max 12 diesel fuel is have unlimited life if you store it in dark place so when i put diesel in my car when price is low i take extra 20 or 40 liter in Jerry can and store it in ICB euro cube it is contain 1000 liter and before use i pass it thru fuel filter so i have fuel for at least one year in advance if something happens.

If you are on a fixed income and can not make it , get a side hustle, sell things that you dont need. Because when it comes down to it you can not eat materialistic things. You will need at least a months supply of resources. You will feel more at peace with yourself when you know you have prudent reserve. Reach out and become part of a preparedness community. Knowledge and skills will be a great barter item. Learn new skills to occupy your time.

👁👁 I don't buy everything on the shelf. Shucks, I want someone to leave something for me to buy. The only time I get it all is if there are only 3 cans or less. If it doesn't feel right, I'll get only 1, or even pass it up. Somebody behind me might need it worse than I do.

$2.50 a pound for beef? Bro, you need to go to a store and see what the real world is like. I’m not hating on you, but you’re WAY off. I buy half an organic grass fed and finished beef every year and pay less per pound than what the grocery stores charge. Also, I stock some of the cheaper foods that I don’t really care for that much, but I’ll eat anything and if it’s between starvation or eating something that I’m not a fan of, I’m eating it and loving every bite.
