As an asian, we are always taught to wash the rice at least 3 times (I usually go for 5 times just to be extra safe lol) before cooking it. This is to get rid of excess starch and dirt because it hasn't been washed before. This doesn't just apply to babies but also when you're cooking rice for adults.

Random tip: you don't need a separate steamer! I steam vegetables by putting water in a pot and then put a collander/sieve on top of the pot, put in the veggies and cover with a lid. Works just fine and no need for extra stuff in the kitchen 😊
@lienbijs1205
@lienbijs1205 4 жыл бұрын
You can also steam perfect in a pressure pot, because of the shorter cooking time there will be less vitamines destroyed. Just go for a solid one, not for aluminium, that is not healthy.

IKEA has those steam things for pots that cost about $5 and you’ll lose basically no nutrients, and it’s really tiny and will take up basically no space in the cupboard (I store mine in a pot). And you’ll need such a small amount of water that it saves electricity due to not needing 10-15 minutes to come to a boil.

There are rules (like no honey prior to one year of age; introduce foods for about a half week at a time, so you know what is causing an allergic reaction should there be one; allow the child to explore their food because it is all totally new to them, thus strange), so people should consult their pediatrician and then adapt to suit their family life and baby's needs. I understand fully about meat prep: it is not likely I will open a butcher shop anytime soon. We can always save the water from cooking the veggies for soup stock for a later family meal. Water from the fruits can be used for making applesauce or some such. It is fun watching babies eat because they are so facially expressive about it. This was helpful.

I'm a vegetarian who eats beans every day. I tried so many different ways to cook dried beans because I don't like the high sodium content in canned beans. You can save a lot of hassle when cooking dried beans by EITHER putting them in the crock pot with water on low (about 4 hours for smaller beans, 8 for bigger beans) OR putting them in a lidded casserole dish or dutch oven (with water) for about 1.5-2 hours at 350 degrees (less for smaller beans like lentils...about 45 min). For either method you just need to rinse the beans first and then toss into your cooking method.
@Mrs.Silversmith
@Mrs.Silversmith 4 жыл бұрын
People have gotten food poisoning from using a slow cooker to cook beans. If you use this method to soften dried beans, they still need to be brought to a rolling boil for at least 10 minutes at some point in the cooking process in order to break down a toxin known as hemagglutinin. Red kidney beans have the highest content of hemagglutinin. Signs of having eaten under-cooked beans are nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting.
@federicamazzara9318

Katie McCullum here in Italy, where I am . from, it is very very common to use dry beans and the way we cut down in cooking time is by soaking them for 12-14 Hours with a teaspoon of baking soda per kg, and then u cook them normally and it takes max 3 hours :) (for lentils u just need to soak them for 20 minutes)

Hey! In fact, spinach is not recommended for ages under one because of the high nitrate content. Nitrate interferes with oxygen transport in the baby's body. And same is with cow's milk. It contains too much protein for the baby's kidneys and too little nutrients for the baby. At the age of ten months, the baby can begin to get used to dairy products with the help of sour milk products.

That was in the past in the Netherlands as well the advice, but according a new research in 2014 there will be no harm if you give it maximum 2 times a week. Even reheating is not a problem as long you cool it down and put in the fridge asap so there will no nitrate producing bacteria.

That mold is silicone, you pop it out and repackage after its frozen. Don't heat the food in plastic. Mason jars if you don't have glass for frozen foods works well. If you prefreeze food and then add it to glass the jars don't crack as the food expands when freezing.

What about plastic bottles
@chel-lalasveganmania
@chel-lalasveganmania 3 жыл бұрын
@@eminemilly Heating food in any kind of plastic is bad. Even BPA free plastic. However plastic bottles can easily be sterilized. Just use the same bottle baths they use for baby milk bottles. If you read Catchmeifyoucan's comment the problem was with sterilizing. There are several kinds of soaks in which you can properly soak plastic containers. Old plastic should not be used for children. Just remember that when you heat food, take it out of the plastic, put it in: pottery, or ceramics, or porcelain, or stainless steel to heat.

@@chel-lalasveganmania oh ok good to know ut can still be properly sterilized for baby. I definitely don't get things in plastic. Thanks

Hi ^ - ^ I'm from Brazil, I watch your videos for a while, I think since when elouise turned 1 year. but I forgot to subscribe, so I started to follow now ... I'm marathoning your videos every day, I want to follow all the details, because I love your videos, your lifestyle, your beautiful children, I love the channel ♡ Hope you never stopped to make videos (that's a strange thing to ask, huh), but I consider myself your fan, I know I admire you so much and that your videos are helping me and cheering me up for the anguish I'm going through in my life! Your videos make me happy in my boring everyday life ... you're important to me, as much as I don't know much English, I understand a few words. (I'm looking for a way to subtitle your videos in Portuguese, think about sending them to youtube administrators) anyway ... I wish you a lot of joy and all the best. I love your family ♡

I'm wondering if the yoghurt is safe for the baby? I've heard that "normal" yoghurt for adults is not suitable for babies under 6-12 months because of the very high protein content...

It depends on the doctor’s advice and what you’re comfortable giving your baby. I gave my son everything except honey and cow’s milk before he turned 1. He had yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, eggs pretty much everything

Love this video! Thanks for posting. Two kitchen items that are WORTH IT and could up your game are 1) an immersion blender and 2) SouperCubes silicone trays. I have been blending in our Ninja but whenever I blend hot foods in the container (which it recommends not doing), they are extra hot, and almost explode because of the compressed heat! An immersion blender has been AMAZING!! And SouperCubes are silicone trays that come in multiple sizes that are perfect for baby or adult meals. They have been super high quality and have been amazing as I do post-partum food prep! Just wanted to pass along two things I found :)

@Loeppkyslife This was a super great and informative video! It looks like Theo will grow up strong and healthy with that diet! As a food scientist I just want to add that frozen fruit really should be cooked before eating, especially when it’s for babies, but also for children, pregnant women and the elderly. In Europe every bag of frozen fruit already has this warning, and the FDA is currently looking into changing the recommendation. Cooking the berries will kill the potential norovirus and hepatitis A that can be found in frozen berries. This is not to scare or guilt you, merely a wish for you and your children to be extra safe!
