I 100% agree! Notifying the author is as rude as telling the artist. Since creative outlets are so personal and very subjective, it can come off as very entitled for a reader(or audience) to seek out the author directly just to voice their negative opinions to. This is not necessary as reviewing websites and designated sections on platforms already exist for that and those authors can visit those opinions there should they want to. Choose a little compassion and understanding before voicing your own opinions first. Negative opinions can be valid but all do not deserve to be seen or heard by the author. You’re doing great Sarah! 🎉 congratulations on your release ❤

as a writer, I understand what you're saying. There's really no need to say anything negative directly to any type of artist. I know that people out there aren't going to like my book and that's fine, but art is subjective, and saying anything negative to someone doesn't help especially when it's already out there. keep it in the reviews.

Congrats on your release! You explained the entire negative review thing perfectly. I find it so hard to express that kind of stuff but you said it perfectly. Wishing you so much success for your books!

Congratulations Sarah! ❤🎉 I’ve literally read all of your books. And this one has been my absolute favorite. There was so much depth to it and the romance was the sweetest and swooniest yet. Especially the ending/epilogue! it was perfect. I honestly didn’t want it to end. 😍 so happy you kept writing this year. ❤❤❤❤you’re such an inspiration!!

You're much nicer than I am... I block every single person that tags me in a negative review 😅
@AuthorSarahSutton5 ай бұрын
Sometimes it’s unintentional, and people don’t realize the weight of what they’re doing, but you can always tell when someone tags an author with other motives 👀 Reviews are not for the author, they’re for the next reader picking up the book!✨

I'm with you, reviews for the reader, don't tag me, or any author in a negative review. Hope release day went wonderfully! ❤

That’s so weird. When I order from vistaprint they’ve always come in separate boxes but also I’ve only done business cards. Which reminds me I really need to order more. Also I agree with you, don’t message or tag author in reviews because the reviews are for readers not authors. Which BTW: I love love love the purple cover! ❤❤❤ love this whole day vlog.

Okay so. If I don't like a book I can 100% tell the author. Think of a book or a painting or anything else you make as an artifact that you put out into the world. It's isn't you, it isn't your soul and it isn't your baby. When you send it out into the world people get to have their own opinions and reactions to it. That includes voicing those opinions where you can hear them.

I don’t think her meaning was to not say you don’t like it where the author can see/hear that opinion. It sounded like she was pointing out that direct messaging an author about it isn’t really helpful to other readers (or to the author since it’s already published)

Dude you totally missed her point. And it sounds like you’ve never created anything in your entire life.

No, actually you cannot 100% tell the author you don't like their book...unless you're trying to be a massive jerk (which isn't the word I really want to use, but whatever). The sense of entitlement that comes with a statement like that is just bewildering. Fun fact: for many authors/artists, the things they put out into the world *are* a piece of them...that's the kind of work that connects with people... so stomping all over that offering with your nasty attitude is pretty inhumane. If you want to voice your dislike of someone's creation, feel free to do it in the appropriate places where the author can choose whether or not, and how, they want to engage with that feedback. It costs exactly nothing to be a decent human being...have a little respect.

In the publishing industry, directly sending an author any sort of unsolicited criticism is considering extremely rude and tacky.
@arcane92055 ай бұрын
I just feel like there's no benefit to telling the author a negative opinion you have on their work so telling them directly seems just mean spirited
