your kitchen your rules, I think this would keep in the fridge for a good long time when the grandkids come to visit to have a great on hand snack. I would really like to see you open a jar and show us what you do with it.

Dear Prepper Pam... I finished it and had three jars not seal, so I got to play with it... wonderful...plain by itself...I did tweaked it...added 1/2 cup milk, 1 teaspoon corn starch, one egg, and another teaspoon sugar...cooked it on the stove and it made a wonderful pudding texture. I will be using this recipe again...and it will stay on my pantry list...Thanks again...great job...

Yum, did not think about doing this but will certainly try a batch. As I was growing up, Rice Pudding was a common dessert as it is very low cost. My mom would add a bit of lemon rind to the mix. I'll give it a go using dehydrated rinds to minimize the cellular breakdown while canning. Not sure what is the issue with canning rice or using rice in wet canning. I often will use rice in my canned soups without quality/viability issues. One thing though, when to add the rice. If you prepare the soup and can it cooked, do not add the rice when making. Like Pam, add it uncooked as you can. Cooked rice, once canned will become porridge. Notice how in the pudding, the rice kernels were frayed (split ends). If rice is precooked (before canning) it will continue to split and break down. Not an issue in viability, just that it will work as a thickener and affect how the finished product looks.

I removed the rings from jars on my pantry shelf, and noticed the lids on four of my jars have give / spring to them, does this mean that they are not fully sealed, but since the rings were on them I didn't realize the lids did not stay flat. Please give me your take on this since it is canned baked chicken I am concerned.
@oldhippyhomesteaders
@oldhippyhomesteaders 8 жыл бұрын
they are not suppose to move at all do not eat them, I usually take my rings off but I do leave them on occasionally and if you remove the seal and it comes off very easy that's also a sign..dont eat that food

If you look at the origin of food canning, it’s to prolong their shelf life. Rice (uncooked) can probably last longer than us. So, there’s no need for USDA to try to preserve rice through canning.

Have you ever been given a reason why this is a "no no"? The pressure canner is bringing everything above the temperature where Botulism wouldn't occur. I can't see anything in your procedure that would be unsafe.
