Great recipe, John! It's a tradition in our family during the holidays to make these kinds of truffles. It started at Thanksgiving when we were making pumpkin pie for dessert and my young son said, "but we always have some chocolate, too!" So, I taught him how to make these and he has made them ever since. He uses a variety of flavorings and coatings, but we learned that in order to give them that "snap" you get when you eat a professionally made truffle, you dip them a second time in melted chocolate after rolling, just before adding the nuts, etc.

A few years ago, I worked at IRS close to Christmas time. We all brought a treat to share with every one. There were these little cookies, ball shaped that I really liked. Funny thing is, no one else seemed to like them. I sat at my computer doing my work and munching on these cookies. It was the end of the day so I straightened up my area and got ready to leave and I stood up and immediately was very dizzy. No one bothered to tell me the little cookies were bourbon balls. I don't drink alcohol and had no idea people put it in cookies. I had quite a merry little Christmas that night.

I had a similar experience with Jello shots at a Fourth of July party (thankfully, I was of drinking age, but just barely at the time of this story and so booze was still new to me). I was at a block party and there were all these tables around with food and drink everyone had made. I saw Jello shots, triple-layer ones with red, white, and blue Jello in little plastic cups and I thought, "What a cute idea!" I had about four or five within a few minutes, assuming they were just a festive, non-alcoholic dessert. Needless to say, I went home early from the party and also hit the couch for the hardest nap I'd ever had.

Lmao , the same thing happened to me but I wasn’t eating truffles ... I was at a party where some adults were drinking and there were a lot of kid . I had a cup of coke left on the counter and 5 minutes later I came back to drink the coke and my dads cup of wine was literally besides my cup of coke so with my 8 year old mind , I didn’t think much and grabbed my dads wine . Then I drank like half the cup of wine and then I remember my reaction being like “this is not my coke ... whats this ?” But somehow I didn’t get drunk 🤔 I remember very well that I stayed up all night in the party and I wasn’t like dizzy or something 😂 I think I can take alcohol 😜

I would have never thought to add alcohol but my MIL always gets Bailey's for Christmas Eve because she gets up early and prepares a truly amazing feast so she has to have her magic coffee haha! Im gonna make some of these with Bailey's as a hostess gift for her this year.

@@kb-ih7ni They were such a hit!! They were soooo easy to make, and everyone was so impressed like they were magic! I made the Bailey's version, I did a version with dark cocoa on them, I did a version with pecans, and a version with freeze dried rasberries. I melted them then sat at the table rolling them out, let them firm up in the freezer, rolled them again to get them extra smooth, then dipped them in the toppings. I got to sit down for most of it, sipping Bailey's and taste testing each truffle. I will never sweat over a variety of pies and baked goods again! I'm my family's truffle queen!

When the truffle mixture is still in its melted form, could you divide it up into silicone molds, refrigerate it, then “roll” it in the coatings to make shaped truffles?
@xfallenxlostx32544 жыл бұрын
That would be difficult because unless the molds are a very simple shape, most of them will break when you take them out. You need tempered chocolate for molds to work really well. Source - I’ve made truffles and other chocolate treats for years. My mom and I used to make TONS of goodies around the holidays to give to neighbors and friends.
@aashnabakshi19964 жыл бұрын
@@xfallenxlostx3254 Omg I had the exact same question! I just bought square shaped silicon moulds and want to make these truffles in them tomorrow. As per the suggestion, maybe I'll dust a little bit of coco powder in the moulds so it comes out easy. Would that work?
@xfallenxlostx32544 жыл бұрын
aashna bakshi The cocoa powder may help a little, but you’d still have a difficult time. The truffles will be very subject to crumbling and cracking. Honestly I suggest just rolling them in the traditional shape or balls like John did, but you could try it since your shape is simple. If you do, just try it with a few at first so you don’t get too frustrated.
