As an ESL, I particularly disagree with “dont memorize vocab” part. In my case, more than 50% of my mistakes were made because my inability to completely understand certain words in the sentences. That situation made me fail to grasp the overall meaning of those sentences. Thus, I chose incorrect answer. Just saying. Thx for the great video, Erika & PrepScholar. It is a great content for my GMAT preparation. Regards.

It's difficult for esl students to understand a Comprehension without the help of a dictionary. Sometimes we have to go through the dictionary several times and it absorbs a huge amount of time. Any suggestions on that?

Thank you for an apt and useful video, Erica. You did not touch upon essay and integrated reasoning. Was this intentional because they are not important?

@@PrepScholarGMAT Oh thank you for responding to my question and answering my query. I'll keep that in mind and visit the link that you just shared with me. Keep up the great work :) I have increased both my confidence and score by following your guidelines and tips :D It would help a lot of us, if you could post new 700 level questions - sorted by each section and type of question. This could also help you create a series of videos in future. I am sure such a series will be appreciated just like your previous attempts were for posing 700-level questions.

Did GMAT preparation improve my English level ? Or if my English skills is poor should study the Language until reaching intermediate level and go to preparation?

I don't agree with you Erica that vocabulary knowledge doesn't matter. General sense is far more important for sure, but without knowing complex words by topics to some extent, an ESL student won't be able to comprehend questions quickly and accurately enough. (imho) If you know any foreign language well, try to do some similar tasks yourself. I'm pretty sure that if you don't know enough vocabulary, you'll see too many of those Xes and it will be very difficult to handle with a task in allotted time.

I am an ESL student and I second for this technique! I've attended other GMAT prep tutor and spent big buck but it was not helpful! The strategies they taught were not useful to ESL student, because you will get swamped with modifiers, new vocabularies, and meaning (which you won't understand at all because you still were confused by the modifiers) before you even looking for the "obvious" mistake, aka: the BIG FIVE. Even when I was preparing my Tofel back in the days, we were taught to predict/interpret the whole sentence when you don't know all the vocabs. Meaning & Logic are the keys.
