Mexico will respond, and Mexicans will not be able to afford American corn. So who is the big loser here? Well, it is the American farmer, of course. They lose that trade income. Mexico can and will grow more corn domestically, or find other exporters in central and South America who will be eager for this new trade opening. Trump is enacting an unnecessary trade war with Canada. A minuscule amount of Fentanyl is entering the US from Canada than compared to the amount entering over the Mexican border. Canada has also spent at least $1.3 billion since Nov. 2024 to beef up it's border in response to Trumps initial tariff threats as well as prevent the availability of precursor ingredients from being sold within the country. More plans are in place to deal with the issues at hand yet Trump and his administration won't acknowledge the mischaracterization of the issues or at the very least the efforts made to rectify it. 10% Tarrif on Oil should have ZERO impact on employment rate in Alberta. It's like assuming the oil price is 60 Instead of 65. Also for over 5 years oil and gas companies sold oil around 70-85 dollars. That mean they have a lot of resrve fund. Alberta government should mandate oil and gas industry to have Zero unemployment related to tarrifs. Specially now that Alberta has TMX the impact of 5 dollars cheaper is not even sensed.

Time for Canada to turn off the oil taps, electricity and all minerals. Forget about reciprocal tariffs, cut all supplied immediately. The USA imports 20% of its oil from Canada. The USA does not have the capacity to drill or refine enough oil to meet supply and demand. As a proud Canadian I will no longer be buying any goods identified as made in the USA and this is not temporary for me. It is now permanent.
