Downtown Prescott is one of the few “old towns” that actually looks as good as - if not better than- it does in pictures. I’d say our town doesn’t have a bad angle - or at least, not in the downtown district. I love living here and am blessed to have escaped the hell of “that other state.” Like I tell friends and family, I moved to America and have never felt happier. Just don’t come here if you don’t like freedom and kindness. :-)

This video shows all the beauty of the Prescott area, without any of the reality of what it is like if you move here. It is very crowded now. Going to the grocery stores with wall to wall people because Prescott and Prescott Valley keep building more and more homes, but no more grocery stores. Having to listen to sirens every day, when there used to be virtually none. I have gotten to watch people who lived here get pushed out of their rentals with no where to go (So the owners can rent to the richer Californians.) Many beggars with cardboard signs. The main road (69) is crowded all the time. Often it takes me two full signal lights before I can make a left In Prescott Valley. "Everybody's Hometown" - is exactly what it feels like.

I was raised in Prescott - grew up there in the ’60’s and ’70’s and left in the ’80’s when everything really started to go to hell. My late husband and I returned in 2012, but after he died, I had to leave again (for good) because it’s turned in a mini Orange County (CA). Too damn expensive to buy anything decent, too much uincontrolled growth without the proper infrastructure to support it. Bought a place (1800 sq ft home) on an acre 4 hours south of Prescott and pay HALF AS MUCH as what the 1062 sq ft APARTMENT in PV is going for now! I haven’t been back to my hometown in 6 years, and don’t miss anything but the climate.

Prescott was awesome in the 70's and 80's. As time has gone on, there is much more development. Old water holes that are now private property. I used to hike- even in 2000 and had a nice landscape view, but now you go somewhere and look at somebody's house. It's extremely disappointing. Even with habitat loss and water issues, development will continue and then it will be like everywhere else. It's a shame because there is money to be made in tourism without destroying everything. People will continue to move here and have no idea about the impact of destruction is and they will only see how it's so much better than the city they came from. They will have no idea of what has been lost and how it's going to catch up with us. It already is but the face of things looks great. Could have been dealt with better.

Prescott is now actually part of what we call the Quad Cities. Prescott, Prescott Valley, Dewey/Humboldt, and Chino Valley. This is due to the recent insane population increase and how there is very small open space left separating these towns. The joke used to be soon you can drive from Dewey through PV all the way into Chino and you'd struggle to see when one ends and the other begins. It's no longer a joke it's the current reality.

Thanks for the video. I've lived in Prescott for about 8 years and I still enjoy it. It's got a lot of natural beauty and there are plenty of friendly people. Like anywhere, what you get out of living in Prescott depends largely on your underlying expectations. It's definitely not a young person's town...and yes, the job market is fairly narrow. *Is it largely conservative? Definitely, but so what?... people have a right to their political views, just like people have a right to move here if they want to (yes, even from California). We don't restrict speech, thought, or movement in a free country... *Is it expensive? Yes, living costs here have skyrocketed, but that's true just about everywhere lately, so par for the course I guess ... *Is it mostly clean and well- maintained? Yes, especially if you're comparing it to larger communities/cities...so it's still wonderful by comparison. *Is it different than it was 20 years ago? Probably. But name a place on earth that isn't (outside of North Korea, maybe). No matter where you move to, the community will change over time. So I say get used to it, and make the best of YOUR time there by being a good fellow citizen.

The 50+ halfway houses, the fact that it’s incredibly dangerous to drive anywhere because of the abundance of elderly drivers who should have lost their license 20 years ago. The rent prices have sky rocketed because why not? The traffic is just getting worse and worse (uncomfortable amount of California license plates don’t you think?) cookie cutter house slammed anywhere they can fit. Closing schools to make way for parking lots, sure let’s fill the classrooms with as many children as possible :). Ohhhh what about the square? The amazing historical square? DO NOT MOVE HERE---- My mother who is a senior citizen forgot to ring up some items she was purchasing in the self-checkout, Walmart called Prescott Police, and all hell broke loose. My mother who was confused why she was being arrested kept asking the officer “Why am I being arrested”, instead of explaining the situation, he told her to stop playing dumb and let her know she was being arrested for shoplifting. My mother who was shook as she’s gone her whole life without being in trouble with the law, asked the officer again, “Why am I being arrested”. Cuffs were shackled around her wrists very tightly which caused her to flinch and scratch the police officer, which he assumed was intentional, and started spouting out “NOW YOU’RE GETTING A FELONY”. My mother who has gone 60+ years of her life is now facing two felonies and we’re unable to afford an attorney, we also found out from the public defender that since my mother “was resisting arrest” it wouldn’t matter how hard the officer shackled the cuffs around here wrists since he had to use the “appropriate force to detain the suspect” even though my mother is a senior citizen. My mother’s wrists have a ¼” bump from the cuffs and were black and blue when I picked her up. She’s never been a criminal, you guys didn’t need to take things this far. Take my advice and DO NOT move here, this town is terrible. Everyone walks around grumpy, and the police pick on law-abiding citizens, meanwhile pounds of fentanyl are being smuggled at the border killing someone new every day.

Insane population increase and I really want to see more people move out... Then in... Is it just meee??? Its cool and all but its A LOT of people in the past year alone. I think people wanna have some space to grow not to cram together in cookie cutter homes.

Not great if you are starting out, depending on your field you may find it harder to find work in town but you can reach out to PV or chino for more options.

Not much opportunity unless you want to work retail or service also including health care and caregiver… sales tax is 9.1% and every town in AZ is at least 1.5-2 hours apart on highways with NOTHING in between. I’m planing on leaving soon

Better job market in PV than Prescott. There's a few manufacturing jobs here, Rugar, Printpack, MI Windows.

I moved to Prescott in 2015 after living in Phoenix Metro from 2003-2015. Prescott is one of the greatest places in Arizona, however believe it or not Prescott & Prescott Valley and surrounding area have over 250,000 people which is insane, the towns and infrastructure were NEVER made for so many people. There is honestly too many people living here and the $500K-$1M home prices haven't slowed the population growth. Sadly in the past few years stores have been closing, despite the population growth Same Club and Whole Foods closed, the mall goes bankrupt every few years, other than medical jobs there isn't much for work so you need to be retired or have independent income, and home prices are astronomical even in Arizonas general market. Prescott vs. Preskitt is used to identify outsiders vs. locals. Locals all say Preskitt.

I didn't see the mention of all the drug addicts due to the insane amount of rehabs here, as well as our friends overdosing at young ages, and 80% of girls being pregnant by 16
@audisnewbeginning86162 жыл бұрын
Everybody's home town. Except the locals. Housing and rental prices are astronomical. It's a minimum wage/ retirement town. Nurses, Medical Staff, Social/ Human Service workers, service staff, refuse men woman are all being priced out. Crimes seriously up shootings, drug deals gone wrong, literal gang wars during daylight at our parks, Officers being killed in the line of duty. It's out of control. The current infrastructure is unable to handle influx of new residents joint from other States. No none of the lakes are are safe for swimming nor is it permitted. It's becoming a unsafe bubble about to pop. Visit? Absolutely! Chose to purchase a home here to live year round? Do your research please before you decide. We'd love to have new folks and families that wish to join our community and invest in it. Hopefully you establish work locally 1st, and understand this is a small retirement and tourist town. Nothing like the Valley. We have had many out of State remote workers come here, buy with cash, try to settle, then get recalled from remote positions,are unable to find livable wage skilled jobs, have to sell the home they just bought and move to a larger metro area so they can make salary that they are comfortable with. It's sad to see people love it here, then literally have to list their new homes, and move to a safer, cultured, and fiscally viable area.

Thanks and Please stay away in Prescott we have killings ,looting ,burning on daily basis and of course BLM protest going on every day and our local cops are kneeling on ppl necks every 5 min not to mention catalytic converters and car thefts happening every second and of course homeless ppl living in tens in the middle of the streets preventing locals from going to Safeway before being looted so Please stay away this is not a place for you, you can find tranquility and peacefulness in places like SF LA or NY or any blue utopias you my prefer.Thanks again

Everybody's hometown. I moved to the county in 2011. I didn't stay long. On Sunday, March 4, 2012 Yavapai County Sheriff's Office had an Airforce sponsored shake down, where 234 lost their jobs, 95 were prosecuted for possession of drugs and paraphernalia while in uniform. The jobs were taken over by Military Police until qualified replacements could be found and trained. This is why there is now a building boom, the crime rate went down after the clean up. I see it's back to shithole central.
