I understand that having a family member die of an overdose of prescription medication is so incredibly sad, but unfortunately the answer to solving that issue is not going to be fixed by making the medication harder to obtain. When you're dealing with an addict, they will go to extreme lengths to get their fix, whether it be pills or heroin, they are so determined to get high that it doesn't matter to them. I hate to say it, but her son would have found a way to get his fix no matter what the circumstance.The only people you're hurting by making prescription drugs nearly impossible to obtain is people who are truly suffering. The kid didn't accidentally overdose on a drug he was prescribed to by his doctor which he had no idea was dangerous, he was injecting it into his body in combination with an illegal drug, he knew exactly what he was doing and controlling prescription medication was not going to stop him.
@JohnDoe-ib9bc9 жыл бұрын
Bottom line, stop making it harder for people living in serious agony to get help because your son made the choice to abuse a prescription drug on his own time. Taking the pills away wasn't going to stop him. I couldn't sleep at night if I knew non addicts were suffering because they weren't being treated properly and couldn't get the medication they needed because of my own selfishness.

Exactly, all it does it make it harder for people to get pain relief when they really need it. I've already run into this problem myself.

I am a patient I am not a drug addict!!! I need the medication I have been prescribed which I use correctly according to my doctors instructions. I will not be penalised or be made to feel I am a drug addict and I wish this very sad story and all the others would not be used to control a nut with a sledgehammer. Yes it is sad that people die because of the addiction they have but the flip side of that is my grandmother who died in screaming agony because she had brain cancer and very little option to obtain painkillers. I do not want to end up like this

So if someone comes to a trauma center with a gun shot would or a serious car accident be denied pain morphine or oxycodone?
@ticks4ticks46 жыл бұрын
No; that's a different case. (In-patient administration of morphine or hydromorphone) would be vital; along with inpatient administration of antibiotics; and later, when still admitted. continued in-patient therapy, with oxycodcodone for breakthrough patient; and perhaps toradol as well. That's a different story.

Ive been on 1mg of clonazepam a day in the morning, ive been on this dose for nearly 3 years, I don't see the tablets as a high, coz they helped me, i no im addicted to them but I never want more, ill never go over my recommended dose, watching this doco makes me happy that Aussie doctors aren't so chilled about giving out hard pain meds.
@fauxmanchu80948 жыл бұрын
Northoftheriver I'm glad too. I was given opiates only once for a week and it was strictly controlled by my gp. I was never given any painkillers that was more than necessary. In America, some people, once a medication make them high n feel good, they'll go on to abuse it.
@kimcarpenter44611 жыл бұрын
willing to help much of the time. Like with so many other things, it seems those that don't really need it-abuse it-have no problem getting access to all they want and those of us who are legitimately in need can't get the help we need and suffer needlessly. It's very depressing.
@divapowers0012 жыл бұрын
What happens to all the people in chronic pain that NEED those meds. All those laws they wanna pass will just penalize those of us that need those meds. People are such knee jerk morons. I'm sorry people die. I'm sorry famlies suffer. But these drugs aren't all bad and all users aren't junkies or selling their pills

fear of prescribing the meds needed. You're right that people-doctors included-have made life a living hell for patients legitimately seeking relief from chronic pain by with holding prescription meds or by those who do not follow the rules and sell their meds. Until a person is in pain 24/7 each and every day with little or no relief it's hard to understand I'm sure but it's not something I would wish on even my worst enemy. The sad thing is to know there is help available but no one is

The point that Im basically trying to make is that not everyone who asks for pain pills from their doctor is a drug seeker/dealer. Through one doctor's compassion, I now enjoy a quality of life that I thought I would NEVER get back. I want anyone that reads this to know that these meds are a godsend to people like me, and to let the dealers/drug seekers know that they are hurting people that they've never met by making chronic pain patients suffer in agony trying to find a doctor to treat them

Michael druggies don't give a shit about anyone but themselves Druggies will always get what they want no matter what All this will do is take away the meds from people who need it

People talk about all these deaths from prescription drugs. But it is all in cases of abuse, i hope? Like injecting pills and taking way too high doses. Or do I see this wrong?

i think the main issue is Ie i go to doctor and say got bad back In UK you would get 30mg Codeine, But in US your getting morphine equivalents After a month if bad back hadnt cleared, in UK you would get sent for physio, but in US you seem to just keep going back and getting more and more, then before you know it you have been taking Hydrocodone for 6 months, Now tell me that your not gonna have to take 2 to get same effect as 1 after that time scale, 3 months later, 3 for same effect 1 year later BOOM,
@kylepitzer69783 жыл бұрын
Nobody starts out bye shooting. They start because they actually needed them but over time you become addicted. Alot of the times doctors were prescribing pills when they probably warnt necessary
@dfdemt11 жыл бұрын
If you try to press your doctor for narcotics, you are labeled a drug seeker. If you ask for a specific medication by name, its even worse. 4 operations and 2 years of unemployment (due to my condition) later, I was put on 40mg of Oxycontin twice a day and it basically gave me my life back. But the doctor shoppers and those that sell their pain pills have made life a living hell for patients legitimately seeking relief from chronic pain.

I know exactly what you're saying and I agree with you 100%. I'm in the same situation as you except my pain dr that very adequately managed my medical condition retired and I am yet to find a dr that isn't afraid to treat me with the meds I need for an improved quality of life. I'm back to spending a majority of my days in bed due to my intense pain and it just shouldn't be this way. It's difficult for drs I do understand but people with legitimate pain are being made to suffer out of physician

My mother had major ear drum reconstruction twice. she was given 50 perocet low strength. Not knowing that you can get high from it she only takes the meds for a week and the rest was thrown away. If you believe that abusing any drug is a sin,and god can punish you for it then in your heart you will never get addicted to any meds.

You're wrong on that one. Even though I haven't ever been on Heroin/Methadone or even tried them, I've read a lot throughout my career as a student. Methadone withdrawal is worse than heroin withdrawal. It's more protracted, and fucks around with your head way more than Heroin.. Heroin withdrawal is just like 3-5 days of cold sweats/flu/diarrhea and sometimes, vomiting, so yeah, it ain't that pretty. Benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome is something really fucking bad, it's like Hell on Earth!

What the balls is Clonazepam doing in the mix with the opiates?
@missTgalman9 жыл бұрын
Jay Crim its a controlled substance and can be known to cause addiction. All controls are labeled that way. If its a control, you can get addicted to it. the different levels depend on the how bad the addiction rates can be. CII's are Hydrocodone, Ms Contin, Klonopin is a CIII. Oxycodone is a CII but in many states they run your drivers license through the FDA database to see where you're getting pain meds anywhere in the country.
@ticks4ticks46 жыл бұрын
