Well done. If I asked for anything more, I'd have loved a detail shot of the scabbard side when mounted, especially for return saber. Thanks again!

Very same, here. The "Sabre Hanger," attachments, etc all would be very helpful.

Hello, I'm completely new to this and I have a question, My question is, How do you set up your sword belt. I know this is probably a broad question or I haven't worded it well or maybe the answer is on the internet but I haven't been able to find it so I'm asking for help on how to wear it, set it up and all that stuff with the belt.
@11thovc3 жыл бұрын
A R.O The standard set up is to use metal buttons and leather straps to secure your saber to your belt. These same straps can be used to secure it to your saddle as well. The biggest question is what time period are you looking at and which unit you plan to portray and what time period of the war you are thinking about.

@@11thovc I have no clue what time zone or anything, I'm new but I believe it's early beginning of the civil war. All I know the calvery uniform(from the website I'm using) has yellow piping and federal blue.

I recently acquired an authentic Union light cavalry sabre and despite searching online, have learned very little about these very same things...

Nelson 123, it is actually an original import.

11th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry so were can a goo reproduction be bought? And also how often did cavalry use there sabers. Were they trained to use them?
@christkandosii33375 жыл бұрын
Nelson 123 The cold steel 1865 cavalry saber. It is an 1840 wrist breaker, but they have mislabeled it as the 1865. Unfortunate that it is incorrectly named, but it is in fact a good replica of the 1840. Battle ready for a lifetime, as well.

When presenting sword and holding it vertical, do you hold it front of your nose or over your right eye ?
@11thovc2 жыл бұрын
Centered in your face(nose), 6" from your neck.

What would the training have been like in the cav during their camp of instruction before a regiment was accepted into state service? I would think that some would be very good riders and some would barely know how to stay on a horse, not to mention those from the cities would have little in experience with firearms!

Does this drill apply to artillery officers and enlisted with there sabers ?

I wanna join the Calvary...but can I bring my own horse? Or am I given one?
@christkandosii33375 жыл бұрын
The reason you don’t tilt it is because that sword is heavy! If it’s straight up and down, vertical, then the weight is not being transferred to the muscles of your wrist. It’s more restful to have it vertical and that’s why it was originally done so. That’s why the correct way is vertical.

Do you re-enact both sides?

Most units allow it.

Also, please help me get this message out. We Absolutely must stop & get those that wear them to stop immediately! I call them "butt hats" or "a#@ hats" & we've all seen them. The old slouch hat blanks with no bans, liners & so on, just bare. They hold no shape & look horrible! Especially considering that during the 1800's hats & the way you wore them were an extension of yourself & reflected what you did & your status somewhat. Anyhow those "butt hats" look horrible & are detrimental to our hobby that we love!

Nice content, even if it is Cavalry based, LoL. But Please, please remove your watch! I know this is just KZbin vid & for info purposes, but someone new to the hobby or thinking of starting may Not know or realize that reenactors should Not wear or use inaccurate items, no matter what they are or where they are on a person. IE: modern Glasses, the worst! modern underwear, socks, necklaces, bracelets etc.

Vanguard Actual 1: Agreed on the watch. Some of our videos have "easter eggs" on purpose for various internal reasons and other times (like the Linking video you are referring to with the watch), it is done on accident. We whole-heartily agree with your premise. Thanks for the comments.
