In this video, I will show full preservation of the German Helmet M40 size 64 from the World War II. This helmet has been in the ground for 77 years. As a result of the restoration, the original paint and the color of the helmet were preserved.
No propaganda and extremism. Only history!
The demonstration of Nazi symbols in my videos is not propaganda of fascism, Nazism, etc. They are demonstrated exclusively for historical and scientific purposes.

Just watched this and the other video of the restored helmet you welded from two parts. I’ll start by saying you’re far better at this than me! I have attempted with varying degrees of success to preserve different things over the years. I was wondering if you had ever used ospho, and your opinion of it. I used it on a large enamel petrol sign with many spots of rust, and it did a beautiful job of turning the rust into black primer, while leaving the enamel intact. Also used it on an old wheel barrow and it preserved the paint while neutralizing the rust. Only suggestion I might dare offer you on this helmet is the part where you used the pick to remove the heavy chunks of rust. I’m thinking perhaps a small hammer and a chisel might better direct the force where it is desired, but I don’t discount the idea that you may have considered this and have a reason not to use that method. Amazing work you do and I enjoy watching. Thanks for producing these clips.

As a museum professional I would suggest that what you did was a nice job of “restoring” the helmet. “Preservation” is keeping the patina of an artifact with very little intervention. “Conservation” is maintaining the original found condition with additional steps to prevent further deterioration.

The paint and decal surviving under THAT much rust was indeed unbelievable. I don't believe it for one. Something very fishy here, starting with the orange colour of the rust - it's _new_ rust. Why is that do you think!

Back in the early 60s my dad went to a antique store in Oregon and bought a WW2 German dagger knife. It had the name Schneider engraved above the handle and a swastica above the name. It came with a sheath too. He also bought a German flag that was rittled with bullet holes. I have no idea what he did with this stuff but this helmet we just watched brought back some memories.

The man who wore this helmet, loved, laughed, danced, cried, had a mother may be a father, maybe had brothers and sisters and grandma and grandpa. He was loved. He may have been married with children. So who are we to say that he was less than human? Because he was the German, because he believed in Hitler‘s ideology? I don’t know I don’t know the man. But we do know he was a human and all humans have those traits. 80 years gone it’s a blessing. They’re all dying by the thousands about 3000 a day Americans that is

Those knights from the middle ages would heat up their armor and helmets. They would liberally apply beeswax wax to the raw steel that acted as a preservative and make the surface slippery thus allowing glancing blows to not penetrate. Great video

I don’t know exactly what year but I can tell you that it is a early war helmet due to the fact that the edge of the helmet is rolled over. By the later stage of the war of the helmets were just simply left rough cut around the edge.

The video (14.40) shows a half of a personal medallion. Half means that the non-commissioned officer broke the medallion in half after the death of a soldier. He took half with him for reporting, and inserted the other half into the teeth of the deceased (the skull is the least susceptible to decomposition). Usually, when such medallions are found, it is customary to give them to German veteran organizations with an indication of the place of discovery, so that they inform their relatives that the place of death of their relative has been found. At least this is standard practice for historical search clubs.

At the end of the war the Americans dynamited all the German bunkers so they couldn't regroup and keep the war going. In 1971 to 1973 my dad was stationed at Zweibrucken Air Station in Germany, and we went with him. As we were moving back to the U.S. a new bank was being built on base. While digging the foundation a previously unknown bunker was discovered. It was like a time capsule. German weapons and uniforms with skeletal remains were found. A particular helmet was found with a bullet hole and blood stains.
