I’m restoring an m40, I took the previous paint completely off as it was already pretty badly restored, now I have to repaint it, I bought day 1944 paint, I tried on the shell to see if it would hold on, but it doesn’t, I can scratch it off with my nails. Do you know if I have to use any sort of primer or what I should do to make it work?
@urho54874 ай бұрын
You need to paint it with a white or really light gray primer first

Great work... As it is an M42, (I do not mean to be rude or picky) , the color should be "Field Grey" instead of what seems to be "Apple Green" (as used in early M35s). Also I am sure you realised that the chinstrap has been mounted with the black-side on the wearer's skin... and it should be the other way around. I could also suggest the drawstring (as it appears on the video) should be replaced with one that would resemble the original ones a little more. However, you have done a truly great job restoring this piece of history. Congratulations on your workmanship.

Nice as a restoration of an old piece of steel. But terrible for what it represents. Who knows in one of the many cruel photos we see youtube is the fierce protagonist. So it is to be condemned without appeal. Conclusion We leave the past to the past in its oblivion. i have a worrying feeling, the M42 i won at a auction, is gonna look the same under the horrible apple green and double SS decal paint job someone did in the 70s... at the parts where the paint fell off, it´s rusted like hell, but i only pait around 80$ for it and it´s a 60s or 60s ground find from normandy, so i have hope that the stamp is still visible, so i can see if it maybe even was a SS one, or if that lot number will even spit out anything or if it´s not registered... my plan is to make it a Fieldgrey, single decal WH helmet (WH stands for "Wehrmacht Heer", is german, but it´s basicly the same in english, so no need for translations there ig) if the lot number is visible but isn´t registered, or if there isn´t any lot number visible... it´s a size 68 though, so perfect for my big a$$ head... ^^
