I'd probably sacrifice the original paint and take that crusty cancer off the helmet and repaint it so it would look better. But I understand that you value originality over looks.I understand.

1) What do you do when you find a corpse? 2) is there a chance to come across unexploded ordinances?

How often do you come across unexploded munitions? Are they a concern for you when digging things up?

Grazie mille e attendo risposta. Sei bravissimo!

I'd be damned if I would be digging in known WWII site. Both times I was stationed in Germany there was reports of UXO being unearthed and in some cases people were seriously injured or killed. Not all of it has been found and disarmed.

There is actually more German crap in the US than Europe. GIs are great souvenir hunters.

There is so much stuff buried around Europe it's pretty cool, they probably thought no one would ever find these buried treasures after the war .

This is just plundering, most european countries do not allow these types of digs.

I have some questions about this. Is the handle metal? It looks like that to me, but I want to be sure because I have a bayonet. It is complete and in wonderful condition. The handle has wood on the sides. I don't know if you can subject wood to all those chemicals and scratching without damaging it. Clearly, someone who does restoration knows better, that is why I am asking. My bayonet has a stamp on the frog with the officer's name, location, and date--1935. This makes me wonder if bayonet manufacturing altered over time as everything else seems to have.
